OPPO and OnePlus may bring built-in magnetic wireless charging to upcoming mobile phones: Report

Mint5 hours ago

OPPO and OnePlus are preparing to introduce magnetic wireless charging technology in their upcoming smartphones. While both brands currently support wireless charging with power outputs up to 50W, they have relied on traditional Qi wireless charging standards rather than the newer Qi2 standard, which supports magnetic attachment similar to Apple's MagSafe system.
Currently, OPPO and OnePlus use separate back covers embedded with magnets to enable magnetic wireless charging on models like the OPPO Find X8 series and the OnePlus 13. These cases allow wireless chargers and compatible accessories to attach securely to the phone's rear surface. Without the magnetic cases, the phones themselves do not have magnets, so accessories cannot attach directly.
A recent report from the well-known tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo reveals that OPPO's parent company plans to build true magnetic wireless charging into future phones. This integration will embed magnetic components beneath the rear panel of the devices, similar to Apple's approach but designed differently to avoid patent issues. The magnetic feature will help keep accessories such as wireless power banks, wallets, car holders, and pop sockets securely attached during use.
At this time, it is unclear if the new magnetic wireless charging system will support the Qi2 standard. OPPO and OnePlus have not shared official details on this aspect. The current solution using magnetic coils in back covers is available for phones including the OPPO Find X8, Find X8 Pro, OnePlus 13R, and OnePlus 13. For example, OnePlus offers a Standstone bumper case with magnets that hold compatible wireless power banks and accessories like the 50W AIRVOOC magnetic charger and the 27W Freezing Point magnetic cooler. However, when the magnetic back cover is removed, these accessories cannot attach directly to the phone.
Although Digital Chat Station has not confirmed which specific models will feature built-in magnetic wireless charging, the technology is expected to debut in flagship devices. The OPPO Find X9 series, likely including models such as Find X9, Find X9 Plus, Find X9 Pro, and Find X9 Ultra, may receive this upgrade. For OnePlus, the upcoming OnePlus 15 is a strong candidate to introduce this feature.

OPPO Reno14 Series: Stylish durability meets MediaTek 8450 performance

20th June 2025, New Delhi: OPPO India's soon-to-be-launched Reno14 Series merges cutting-edge technology with a design inspired by nature. With its aerospace-grade aluminium frame, one-piece sculpted glass back, ultra-thin screen bezels, and exceptional durability, the Reno14 Series is defining a new standard for premium smartphone design — where sleek aesthetics meet structural integrity. The Reno14 Pro also sets a new performance benchmark as India's first smartphone powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8450 chipset, offering exceptional efficiency and flagship-level speed. Crafted to Dazzle: Flagship Style Meets Smart Texture This is not just another smartphone, this is flagship fashion in your palm. OPPO introduces a first-of-its-kind iridescent glow finish, created using an advanced twelve-layer ultra-high precision patterned coating technology. Compared to the typical six-layer construction in past Reno designs, this process includes five rounds of micron-level optimisation, creating light and shadow lines at just 20 microns, the narrowest in the industry. This meticulous process produces a mesmerising iridescent design that reflects multiple colour tones including hints of red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, purple, pink, gold, and silver. The result is a delicate, colourful and prismatic surface that shifts vibrantly with movement. The Pearl White variants of the Reno14 Pro and Reno14 feature the industry's first OPPO Velvet Glass, paired with a one-piece sculpted glass back. This is crafted using a cold-sculpting process that involves 65 precise steps. Compared to conventional methods, it takes 100% more engraving time (from 9 to 18 minutes) and 50% more polishing time (from 4,000 to 6,000 seconds). The result is a seamless, refined finish that enhances both the look and premium, anti-fingerprint feel of the device. The Titanium Grey variant uses a high-reflective coating on a matte base, creating a dynamic play of light for a modern look. OPPO also introduces a bold Forest Green variant for the Reno14, featuring an industry-first luminous loop deco. This effect mimics lighting around the rear camera using offset printing with variable light transmittance and a high-reflective coating. A Durable Design that is Built for Every Element The OPPO Reno14's durability comes from its revolutionary Sponge Armor Body – a shock-absorbing internal structure inspired by one of the oldest, most resilient lifeforms on Earth: the sea sponge. Just like the sea sponge withstands centuries of ocean currents, pressure, and impact with its porous resilient body, OPPO's Sponge Armor mimics this natural structure to absorb shocks from accidental drops. It distributes force internally, protecting delicate components and making your device tougher from the inside out. This internal bionic structure is reinforced with an aerospace-grade aluminium alloy frame — a material trusted in aviation for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and widely used in flagship smartphones. OPPO uses it to strengthen the Reno14's body — as slim as 7.42mm (in the Pearl White and Forest Green variants) — while ensuring cooler surface temperatures under heavy loads, making it ideal for performance-driven users and mobile gamers. The Reno14 Pro is 7.58mm thin in the Pearl White variant and 7.48mm in the Titanium Grey variant. This premium metal also lends a polished yet rugged elegance and is over 200% stronger than traditional plastic frames. The Reno14 Series does not stop at style; it carries the highest IP ratings that certify it against dust and water ingress. • IP66: Splash protection • IP68: Survives 1.5m freshwater immersion for up to 30 minutes (tested up to 2m by OPPO) • IP69: Shields against high-pressure, high-temperature water blasts Plus, a platinum-coated USB port that is resistant to corrosion. So, whether you are navigating monsoons or poolside adventures, the Reno14 Series is ready—with an underwater photography mode with 4K video quality support—so you never miss the moment. All-Screen. All Entertainment. All Day. The Reno14 Series delivers an immersive viewing experience, with the Reno14 Pro featuring a 6.83-inch OLED display, 1.5K resolution, and a 93.6% screen-to-body ratio, while the Reno14 offers a 6.59-inch display with a 93.4% screen-to-body ratio. Both models boast industry's first-tier ultra-thin screen bezels , making them perfect for everything from streaming to social media. A 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 1200nits peak brightness, and glove touch support ensure smooth interaction in any environment. With 3840Hz PWM dimming, low blue light filtering, and HDR10 support, it is a display made for marathon viewing – certified for Netflix and Amazon Prime HD playback straight out of the box. OPPO Reno14 Series is more than a smartphone – it is a masterpiece of bio-inspired resilience, aerospace-grade strength, and fashion-first design. Ultimate Performance with MediaTek Dimensity 8450 The OPPO Reno14 Series, powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8450, delivers flagship-level photography, intelligent AI performance, and all-day battery life. The chip features the world's first 4nm Cortex-A725 All Big Core architecture, equipped with eight high-performance cores clocked up to 3.25GHz. This results in a 41% improvement in multi-core performance and a 44% reduction in power consumption, making it ideal for intensive tasks such as 4K video editing, real-time AI processing, and mobile gaming. The chipset's 7-core Mali-G720 GPU delivers a 24% increase in graphics performance while consuming 42% less power. Enhancing its AI capabilities, the integrated NPU 880 offers a 54% boost in AI processing and an 18% improvement in energy efficiency. Additionally, support for LPDDR5X RAM and Wi-Fi 6E ensures ultra-fast app launches, seamless multitasking, and stable connectivity—even when managing large AI models or exporting high-resolution content. iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air display secrets outed, here is what Apple is cooking

Despite all the leaks and rumours around the upcoming iPhone 17 series, and everything we know about the devices, the interest around these phones hasn't died down. In fact, even if a small new detail comes out, it only intrigues fans more about what Apple is cooking in the background. As per a recent development, display details about the iPhone 17 and 17 Air have been leaked online, and looking at those, some of the earlier rumours we've been hearing seem to be confirmed. Of course, not officially by Apple — but you know what we up, the standard iPhone 17 is said to feature a 6.3-inch display. Again, not something we haven't heard before. However, Amazon — in a now-deleted listing — accidentally revealed Spigen's EZ Fit Tempered Glass Screen Protector Guard to be compatible with the iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17. For those who don't know, the iPhone 16 Pro features a 6.3-inch display, and the 17 Pro is also expected to feature the same display size. But since the iPhone 17 is also listed as compatible with the 16 Pro's and 17 Pro's screen protector, it's more or less confirmed — unofficially — that the standard iPhone 17 model is getting a 6.3-inch display, up from the standard iPhone 16's 6.1-inch to the iPhone 17 Air, this device is said to replace the Plus model, and in numerous leaks and rumours, there have been hints of it featuring a 6.6-inch display. However, there hasn't ever been any concrete evidence supporting this claim. Well, folks at Macworld have found some clues — hidden in the system code of iOS 26 — regarding a new display resolution that's never been seen on any iPhone to date. As per the report, the second beta of iOS 26 has a new version of the iconic clownfish wallpaper with a resolution of 420912@3x, or 12602736 pixels — and no iPhone model currently has this display However, Ming-Chi Kuo, in an earlier report, had mentioned that the upcoming iPhone 17 Air will come with a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of 12602740. Now, is it just a coincidence that no other iPhone in the past has had this resolution, and suddenly a wallpaper is found hidden in iOS 26's system code with a resolution matching Kuo's earlier claims? In simple words, this too kind of confirms the existence of a new iPhone model on the said, the iPhone 17 series, expected to launch in September, is turning out to be quite exciting. This year marks a redesign for Apple — whether it's the Pro getting a new camera island, the 17 Air getting a never-before-seen slim form factor, or even the standard iPhone 17 getting a bigger display, more in line with the Pro models — there's something for everyone. In fact, if you're more inclined towards the vanilla models — 17 and 17 Air — rumours also suggest this might finally be the year we see 120Hz displays on iPhones that are not Pro or Pro Max. Now, whether it will be a 1-120Hz ProMotion display with AOD support, or a dynamic refresh rate panel that switches between 60Hz and 120Hz, remains to be seen.- Ends
