AlUla Languages Institute Launches Reviving Ancient Languages Program
The program aims to raise awareness of AlUla's linguistic heritage and enable residents to explore the region's rich history of languages and inscriptions.
The program offers several specialized courses in ancient languages historically used in AlUla, including Aramaic, Thamudic, Dadanitic, Lihyanite, Musnad-al-Janubi, and Nabataean, as well as a course on the origins of writing. Registration for the program opened Sunday via the AlUla Languages Institute website.
Through this program, RCU aims to offer learning opportunities to AlUla residents and strengthen their connection to their rich cultural heritage.

Palm waste in AlUla transformed into fertilizer in landmark sustainability project
RIYADH: The Royal Commission for AlUla is implementing a project to produce agricultural fertilizer from organic materials, primarily palm waste. The RCU environmental initiative aims to enhance soil fertility, improve agricultural productivity, and reduce the environmental harm caused by waste burning. To date, over 50,000 cubic meters of organic waste have been recycled into high-quality fertilizer. This has been distributed to more than 1,300 farmers, and expanded to reach over 3,000 beneficiaries, the Saudi Press Agency reported recently. The project has also played a key role in rehabilitating more than 3,000 hectares of degraded farmland as part of a broader strategy to upgrade agricultural infrastructure across AlUla. The organic fertilizer produced contains 52 percent organic matter, which significantly enhances soil fertility and improves water retention capacity. The project has led to substantial environmental and economic benefits, including a reduction in chemical fertilizer use by up to 30 percent, decreased water consumption, and the sequestration of approximately 0.57 tonnes of carbon dioxide for every tonne of fertilizer produced. This is equivalent to cutting emissions from more than 6,300 vehicles each year. As a part of its community outreach and capacity-building efforts, the RCU has implemented training programs that have benefited more than 240 farmers and students. These programs include workshops to share best practices for using organic fertilizers. By turning agricultural waste into a valuable economic resource, the project strengthens food security, enhances soil health, and promotes long-term sustainability in the agricultural sector, the SPA reported.

Pesticides workshop held in AlUla
ALULA: A workshop, titled Safe Handling of Palm and Date Pest Pesticides, was held on Friday in the AlUla Governorate. The event, which was organized by the National Center for Palms and Dates, in collaboration with the Royal Commission for AlUla, took place in the agricultural sector of the commission's headquarters. The workshop targeted farm owners, agricultural workers, and those interested in the sector. It aimed to raise awareness about safe pesticide use while enhancing efficiency in agricultural pest control in a way that improves production quality while ensuring environmental safety. The workshop was part of a series of different guidance programs and workshops implemented by the National Center for Palms and Dates throughout the year in many regions of the Kingdom. They bid to support the agricultural sector's development and enhance sustainability practices.

AlUla, UNESCO Inaugurate 'Deep Surfaces' Exhibition in Venice
In collaboration with UNESCO, the Royal Commission for AlUla has inaugurated the 'Deep Surfaces: Architecture to Enhance the Visitor Experience of UNESCO Sites' exhibition in Venice, Italy, according to the Saudi Press Agency. As part of the Venice Biennale Architecture 2025, the exhibition will run until November 23, at Palazzo Zorzi in Venice. The exhibition features more than 50 projects located in UNESCO-designated sites, such as World Heritage Sites, Biosphere Reserves, and Global Geoparks. Promisingly, the event represents a valuable platform for visitors to explore the role of architecture in boosting visitor experiences, protecting cultural heritage and connecting narratives to people and place. Furthermore, the exhibition offers glimpses into the role of architecture in supporting local economies and promoting social inclusion. In response to complex contemporary challenges, the exhibition also promotes the role of these sites as learning spaces for sustainable development and global citizenship. Interestingly, the event will also highlight the ancient city of Hegra in AlUla as the first Saudi site inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The exhibition also showcases various initiatives designed to encourage public engagement and preserving the site.
