US CDC Ends Covid Vaccine Recommendation for Pregnant Women & Healthy Children

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ended recommending routine Covid shots for healthy children and pregnant women. The decision was announced by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Tuesday.
'We are now one step closer to realizing @POTUS's promise to Make America Healthy Again,' he said in a post on X.
Kennedy said the vaccine would no longer be recommended for "healthy pregnant women."
The CDC lists pregnancy as a condition that puts people at high risk for Covid complications.
The change from the CDC comes a week after Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary announced the agency planned to restrict the use of Covid shots to older adults and children, as well as adults with underlying medical conditions.
Under the supervision of Kennedy, who is known for his opposition to several vaccines, the FDA took a slower approach to approving Novavax's shot before approving it earlier this month.
The FDA limited its use to people 65 and older and teens and adults with at least one condition that puts them at risk for severe illness.

Wildfires in Canada Destroy 400 Homes, Force Thousands to Evacuate
Israa Farhan Massive wildfires have ravaged Canada's Saskatchewan province, destroying more than 400 homes and buildings and forcing the evacuation of over 9,000 residents. As flames continue to spread rapidly, authorities warn the number of evacuees could rise sharply in the coming days. According to the Regina Leader-Post on 30 May, the provincial government declared a state of emergency as wildfires burned through communities with alarming speed. At the time, more than 8,000 people had been ordered to evacuate. Premier Scott Moe later stated that the total number of displaced residents could climb to 15,000. Public Safety Agency data shows 21 active wildfires currently burning in Saskatchewan, with eight of them classified as out of control. Emergency crews are working around the clock to contain the flames and provide support to affected communities. Canada's wildfire season began unusually early this year, with the first fires recorded on 3 May in Alberta. Since then, wildfires have spread rapidly across the country, impacting several provinces. One of the most severe blazes struck northwest Manitoba on 13 May, scorching approximately 42,000 hectares of land. Multiple Canadian provinces continue to battle sporadic wildfires, with extreme weather conditions and dry terrain exacerbating the situation. Environmental experts warn that the combination of rising temperatures, dry conditions, and wind patterns is contributing to the scale and intensity of the wildfires. The destruction has not only displaced thousands but also raised concerns about air quality and long-term ecological impact. Officials are urging residents in high-risk areas to remain alert, follow evacuation orders promptly, and prepare emergency kits. Arab League Convenes Workshop on Internal Displacement, Impact on Children
Mohamed Mandour The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Social Affairs Sector – Family and Childhood Department), in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), is convening a regional workshop on internal displacement and its impact on children in the Arab region via an online platform. The workshop is held within the framework of the Joint Action Plan between the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Social Affairs Sector – Family and Childhood Department) and UNHCR for the period 2024–2025, which seeks to strengthen collaborative efforts to address internal displacement and its multifaceted consequences. The workshop is bringing together representatives from relevant national mechanisms in member states responsible for issues of asylum and displacement, along with experts and specialists in the field of childhood in the Arab region. The agenda includes a range of thematic discussions aimed at deepening understanding of international and regional legal frameworks governing the protection of internally displaced persons, with particular attention to the specific vulnerabilities and needs of displaced children. The programme also explores proposed interventions to improve their humanitarian and legal conditions.
