Lucknow, Jun 20 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials of all districts to submit proposals for road infrastructure development under the Public Works Department's schemes by June 30.
At a review meeting, he highlighted that the 18 key schemes of the PWD include widening of roads connecting blocks and tehsils, improving district roads and state highways, and construction of industrial and logistics parks.
Emphasising the timely submission of proposals, the chief minister stressed that development planning should be driven by local priorities, not political boundaries.
Reaffirming his commitment to inclusive development, Adityanath directed that each of the 403 assembly constituencies should directly benefit from at least two to three major schemes.
He said that local representatives should conduct 'Bhoomi Pujan' or foundation stone laying ceremonies to foster greater public participation in the development process.
Highlighting the importance of linking religious tourism with economic empowerment, the chief minister directed the officials to annually select the top 50 religious sites across the state and prioritise road construction and infrastructure strengthening to improve access.
He noted that enhanced connectivity to these sites would not only enrich the cultural experience of visitors but also stimulate the local economy, the statement said.
Adityanath underscored the need to adopt an integrated approach to road connectivity across the state.
He emphasised road quality and maintenance, directing that no road in the state should have potholes.
To ensure timely execution and high quality of development works, the chief minister instructed all DMs to appoint a nodal officer in each district responsible for conducting weekly reviews of project progress.
He also mandated the compulsory presence of public representatives in monthly and bi-monthly review meetings to strengthen transparency and accountability.
The chief minister issued strict directives to identify tainted or suspicious contractors, thoroughly investigate them, and take appropriate action where necessary, the statement said. PTI ABN RHL

Navlakha, a Delhi resident, had approached the court in April seeking permission to move as it had become 'extremely difficult for him to sustain a stable lifestyle' in Mumbai. He told the court that he had been unemployed and thus had to financially depend on friends and family since he was released in May 2024. The activist pointed out that the trial in the case will take a long time to conclude and hence it is 'crucial for him to be employed and financially stable' to be able to meet legal expenses.

In a big move, the Madras High Court, on Friday declared that it is not necessary for a woman to get the permission of her husband and take his signature before applying for a passport before the authority. Justice N Anand Venkatesh declared the ruling while disposing a woman's petition who sought direction to the authorities to issue a fresh passport without insisting signature from her husband in a time bound manner. 'It is not necessary for a wife to get the permission of her husband and take his signature before applying for a passport before the authority,' PTI quoted Judge Venkatesh as saying. In her petition, the woman, Revathi stated that despite a pending divorce case filed by her husband after their marriage in 2023, the Regional Passport Office (RPO) refused to process her passport application submitted in April 2025, citing the need for her husband's signature in Form-J before proceeding. The Madras High Court also noted that forcing the wife to get her husband's signature when the relationship between the parties was in doldrums, was like asking the woman to fulfil an impossibility, reported Live Law. "The practice of insisting for permission from the husband to apply for a passport, does not augur well for a society which is moving towards woman emancipation. This practice is nothing short of male supremacism", the judge further noted while hearing the case. The judge also noted that the insistence made by the RPO shows the mindset of the society in treating women who were married as if they were chattel belonging to the husband. Justice Anand Venkatesh directed the RPO to process the woman's passport application and issue a passport in her name on her satisfying the other requirements. This process shall be completed within four weeks, the judge added.

Vizag traffic advisory for International Yoga Day: PM Modi to attend event, drones banned
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend a massive International Yoga Day event in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday. As the stage is set for the grand programme, the Visakhapatnam City Police has imposed traffic and drone restrictions, reported PTI. According to the police, around 5 lakh people are expected to participate in the International Yoga Day celebrations. The event is being organised in a 26-km-long corridor from RK Beach to Bhogapuram in the port city of Visakhapatnam. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said the event, scheduled from 6:30 am to 8:00 am, will be organised to get recognition and set records, including a Guinness World Record. City Police Commissioner Sanka Batra Bagchi said elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. Bagchi said, as quoted by ANI, "Five lakh people will participate in the World Yoga Day celebration. We are making arrangements accordingly." He added that the police enforced vehicle movement restrictions on key routes, especially near the Beach Road area, from June 20 afternoon till the evening of June 21. "There are traffic restrictions in Visakhapatnam from today till the evening of the 21st. There will be restrictions on the movement of vehicles on Beach Road from NTR Circle to Park Hotel," the commissioner said. Bagchi advised residents to use alternative routes. He said, "City residents should use alternative routes on Beach Road. There will be restrictions on the movement of vehicles from Park Hotel to Bhimili Beach." 1) Restrictions are imposed on the movement of vehicles from Park Hotel to Bhimili Beach. 2) Buses coming from Vizianagaram for the celebration should come towards Boyapalem. 3) Buses coming from the Alluri district for the celebration should come from Vepagunta. 4) Heavy vehicles from Srikakulam should not come towards Thagarapu Valasa-Anandapuram as they will be barred. The 11th International Yoga Day, celebrated by several countries worldwide, has been themed 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'.
