Vizag traffic advisory for International Yoga Day: PM Modi to attend event, drones banned
According to the police, around 5 lakh people are expected to participate in the International Yoga Day celebrations. The event is being organised in a 26-km-long corridor from RK Beach to Bhogapuram in the port city of Visakhapatnam.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said the event, scheduled from 6:30 am to 8:00 am, will be organised to get recognition and set records, including a Guinness World Record.
City Police Commissioner Sanka Batra Bagchi said elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
Bagchi said, as quoted by ANI, "Five lakh people will participate in the World Yoga Day celebration. We are making arrangements accordingly."
He added that the police enforced vehicle movement restrictions on key routes, especially near the Beach Road area, from June 20 afternoon till the evening of June 21.
"There are traffic restrictions in Visakhapatnam from today till the evening of the 21st. There will be restrictions on the movement of vehicles on Beach Road from NTR Circle to Park Hotel," the commissioner said.
Bagchi advised residents to use alternative routes. He said, "City residents should use alternative routes on Beach Road. There will be restrictions on the movement of vehicles from Park Hotel to Bhimili Beach."

2) Buses coming from Vizianagaram for the celebration should come towards Boyapalem.
3) Buses coming from the Alluri district for the celebration should come from Vepagunta.
4) Heavy vehicles from Srikakulam should not come towards Thagarapu Valasa-Anandapuram as they will be barred. From Anakapalle to Anandapuram, the heavy vehicles will have to go towards Srikakulam.
5) As many as 9,500 personnel will be deployed to maintain order during the large-scale event.
6) Use of drones in specific zones has been banned from 20 to 21 June. The ban applied within a 5-kilometre radius of sensitive locations, including INS Chola, Andhra University grounds, Kali Mata temple, and INS Kalinga.
The 11th International Yoga Day, celebrated by several countries worldwide, has been themed 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'.

India to mark 79th Independence Day with the theme of ‘Naya Bharat'
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the 79th Independence Day celebrations on August 15 from the historic Red Fort in New Delhi. Marking the occasion, the Prime Minister will unfurl the National Flag and deliver his address to the nation from the ramparts of the iconic monument. 'As India continues its journey towards achieving the government's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, this year's celebrations will be held under the theme Naya Bharat,' the Union Mdinistry of Defence said in a statement. 'The celebrations will serve as a platform to commemorate the continuing rise of a prosperous, secure and bold Naya Bharat and provide renewed power to surge further ahead on the path to progress,' the MoD said. The Air Force band, consisting of one Junior Commissioned Officer and 25 other ranks, will play the National Anthem when the Tricolour is hoisted and the 'Rashtriya Salute' presented. The band will be conducted by Junior Warrant Officer M. Deka. For the first time, 11 Agniveer Vayu musicians will be part of the band playing the National Anthem. Soon after the National Flag is hoisted by the PM, flower petals will be showered at the venue by two Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force, one trooping the national flag, and the other trooping a flag depicting Operation Sindoor. The helicopters will be captained by Wing Commander Vinay Poonia and Wing Commander Aditya Jaiswal. The PM will then address the nation. At the conclusion of his speech, cadets of the National Cadet Corps, and 'My Bharat' volunteers will sing the National Anthem. The success of Operation Sindoor will be highlighted at the Independence Day celebrations. The view cutter at Gyanpath will feature the Operation Sindoor logo. Floral decorations will also be based on it. Invitation cards carry the Operation Sindoor logo, and the watermark of the Chenab bridge depicting the rise of 'Naya Bharat'. Approximately 5,000 special guests from different walks of life have been invited to witness the celebrations at Red Fort. About 2,500 boy and girl cadets from the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, and 'My Bharat' volunteers will participate in the celebrations. They will be seated on Gyanpath, opposite the Red Fort ramparts, forming the 'Naya Bharat' logo. To promote patriotic fervour among citizens, and to celebrate Operation Sindoor's victory, bands of defence and paramilitary forces will perform for the first time on the evening of the Independence Day celebrations at over 140 prominent locations across the country.

India's success against Pakistan in Operation Sindoor, the government's resolve to protect interests of farmers amid US tariff threat and a renewed push towards Atmanirbhar Bharat are set to feature prominently during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Friday. On Wednesday, chief ministers of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled states and Union ministers participated in 'Tiranga Yatras' across the country. Home Minister Amit Shah hoisted the National Flag at his residence in New Delhi as part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign. He said the initiative has become a people's movement that strengthens the spirit of patriotism. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan organised a Tiranga Yatra and 'Swadeshi March' in his parliamentary constituency Vidisha–Raisen in Madhya Pradesh. He appealed to the people to hoist the National Flag at their homes on Independence Day and took a pledge with them to adopt 'swadeshi' 'made in India' products. Chouhan said three million women in the country are set to become Lakhpati Didis (earning ₹100,000 annually). 'I pledge to buy only products that are made in India for my daily use, and I will urge everyone in my family, neighbourhood, and village to do the same,' he said. Chouhan said the Indus Waters Treaty is no longer the issue. 'The issue is Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. It is ours, and it will remain ours,' he said. At a meeting that Chouhan attended on Tuesday in New Delhi, farmers welcomed the PM's decision to resist 'foreign pressure in trade negotiations,' according to an official press statement. Under the overarching objective of the government's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, the theme of the 79th Independence Day is to celebrate the 'continuing rise of a prosperous, secure and bold Naya Bharat.' The Defence Ministry conducted quizzes and competitions in the run up to the Independence Day, including an essay writing competition on the topic 'Operation Sindoor: Redefining India's policy against terrorism'. Around 1,000 winners of these competitions have also been invited to attend the Independence Day celebrations. The online quizzes were conducted on the topics like the role of women in shaping new India, border of India and rise of Atmanirbhar Bharat and innovation in national security. For the first time ever, with the objective to 'promote patriotic fervour among citizens and to celebrate the victory of Operation Sindoor', a number of band performances will be conducted pan-India in the evening of Independence Day celebrations, the government's Press Information Bureau said. Rahul Gandhi's lawyer raised 'threat to his life' issue without his consent: Congress
The Congress on Wednesday said Rahul Gandhi's lawyer raised the issue of threat to his life without his consent and will take back the statement in court on Thursday. Rahul Gandhi's lawyer said that he will "file a formal application tomorrow for withdrawal of the said Pursis" before the Pune court. (PTI File) An application, filed before Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Amol Shinde in Pune by Gandhi's lawyer Milind Pawar, said that Gandhi could face harm from the followers of the ideology of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and Nathuram Godse, and providing "preventive protection" is the state's constitutional obligation. Congress' media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said Gandhi's lawyer raised the issue of threat to his life in the court without his consent. "Mr Gandhi has strong objection to this and tomorrow his lawyer will take back this statement in court," Khera said in a post on X. He also shared a press release by the lawyer which said "the Pursis dated 13.08.2025 was filed by me in the Court without Instructions from the client". "The contents of the Pursis were drafted by me without consulting my client Shri. Rahul Gandhi. My client has taken strong exception to filing of this Pursis dated 13.08.2025 and has expressed his disagreement with the contents of the Pursis," Pawar said. "I shall file a formal application tomorrow for withdrawal of the said Pursis before the Hon'ble Court," he said. The case, the trial of which is yet to start, pertains to certain comments allegedly made by Gandhi against V D Savarkar, freedom fighter and Hindutva ideologue. The application said that complainant Satyaki Savarkar had admitted that he is also a direct descendant, through maternal lineage, of Nathuram Godse and Gopal Godse, principal accused in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi is the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and recently held a press conference in New Delhi, placing before the nation evidence of "electoral fraud" by the Election Commission, the application said. Gandhi also staged a protest in the Parliament complex, raising slogans such as "vote chor sarkar". "In light of the documented history of violent and anti-constitutional tendencies linked to the complainant's lineage, and considering the prevailing political climate, there exists a clear, reasonable, and substantial apprehension that Rahul Gandhi may face harm, wrongful implication, or other forms of targeting by persons subscribing to the ideology of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar," the application stated. "In such circumstances, preventive protection is not only prudent but is a constitutional obligation upon the state," it added. Advocate Pawar had said earlier this 'Pursis' or application was submitted as a precautionary measure with the objective of "legally safeguarding the fairness, integrity, and transparency of the present proceedings".
