SCAR organizer arrested Saturday for alleged actions during Wednesday's protest
Jun. 16—Police on Saturday arrested an organizer for Spokane Community Against Racism for alleged actions he took Wednesday during a protest against immigration enforcement.
Justice Forral, 33, is expected to face charges of third-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, according to court records.
The Spokane County Sheriff's Office wrote in a news release they believe Forral grabbed a deputy's head and knocked off his hat in the midst of a group blocking a van outside of Spokane's ICE facility at 411 W. Cataldo Ave.
The protest escalated from a sit-in protest started by former Spokane City Council President Ben Stuckart, to a gathering of hundreds of people that police eventually ordered to disperse. When they didn't leave, police deployed smoke canisters, pepper balls and foam projectiles.
Forral was first arrested Wednesday on suspicion of unlawful imprisonment and failure to disperse. Police say Forral was part of the group blocking a van from leaving, according to the news release. More than 30 people were arrested that night, according to previous reports from The Spokesman-Review.
Forral was later released without having to post bail only to be arrested again Saturday morning in Riverfront Park during the Pride celebration on the new assault allegations.
Forral's attorney declined to comment Monday. SCAR did not respond to request for comment.

Trump Says Reason For Leaving G7 Summit Early 'Much Bigger' Than Iran-Israel Ceasefire
President Donald Trump said his decision to leave the G7 Summit earlier than scheduled had 'nothing to do' with a potential ceasefire between Israel and Iran but something 'much bigger,' a few hours after he left the summit in Canada and made a post warning people to 'immediately evacuate' the Iranian capital, Tehran. In a post on his Truth Social Platform, Trump attacked French President Emmanuel Macron, describing him as 'Publicity seeking,' for his statement that Trump had flown out of the summit early to work out a ceasefire between Israel and Iran and 'then kick-start broader discussions.' Trump said Macron 'has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire,' and claimed it was something 'Much bigger than that.' Trump departed the G7 Summit early and returned to Washington on Monday night to 'attend to many important matters,' White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said. Earlier on Monday evening, Trump wrote on Truth Social: 'Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON…Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!' The president then blamed the situation on Iran's refusal to sign 'the 'deal' I told them to sign,' and added: 'What a shame, and waste of human life. Fox News reported on Monday evening that Trump had asked his national security to be present in the Situation Room when he returns to the White House. In his post about Tehran, Trump didn't clarify why he wanted the city of around 10 million people to be evacuated. Earlier in the day the Israeli military had also issued evacuation warnings impacting around 330,000 people in the Iranian capital as it struck some parts of the city—including the Iran's state TV's main compound, which was captured in a live broadcast. A U.S. official told reporters earlier on Monday, that Trump would not sign a draft statement of G7 leaders, which included a call for de-escalating the Israel-Iran conflict. The president eventually agreed to sign it after some changes were made to the statement's 'initial draft language,' according to the New York Times. The final statement notes: 'We, the leaders of the G7, reiterate our commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East.' The statement affirms Israel's 'right to defend itself,' describes Iran as the 'principal source of regional instability and terror,' and notes 'Iran can never have a nuclear weapon.' It also calls for a resolution of the ongoing crisis and 'a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza.' In a post on X, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi signaled he was open to talks resuming talks with the U.S. if Israel's strikes on Iran were halted. 'If President Trump is genuine about diplomacy and interested in stopping this war, next steps are consequential.
