District-level Yoga tournament-cum-selections on Aug 11
In a statement issued on Monday, district president Avinash Shetty and secretary Muniswamy stated that the event is being organised to select participants to represent Kurnool district in the upcoming 50th State-level Sub-Junior and Senior Yoga Championships, scheduled to be held in West Godavari district in August last week.
The selection trials will be conducted across various age categories—8–10, 10–12, 12–14, 14–16, 16–18, 18–21, 21–25, 25–30, 30–35, 35–45, and above 45 years—for boys, girls, men, and women. The tournament is expected to draw participation from across the district, providing a platform for yoga practitioners to showcase their skills and gain an opportunity to compete at State-level.
Interested participants can attend the selection trials directly by paying an entry fee of Rs 50. The organisers have advised all competitors to report on time and carry necessary identification and personal equipment. For additional details, participants may contact the organizers at 7732089440.

TOI has learnt that nine match officials -- including three FIFA referees and three FIFA assistant referees -- contracted with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on full-time basis, have told the federation that the lack of clarity over the season could force them to seek alternative employment. According to sources, the referees receive a fixed monthly payment of Rs 80,000 from the AIFF, besides Rs 20,000 for every match they officiate in the top tier. Assistant referees are paid Rs 60,000 as fixed sum and Rs 15,000 in match fees. 'Many of us have dedicated ourselves fully to this role, even stepping away from other professional opportunities in order to focus solely on refereeing at the highest level,' the referees said in their letter to AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey on Tuesday. 'The lack of certainty regarding continuation of ISL has created uncertainty around our future and could compel us to seek alternative employment, which would not only impact our livelihoods but also affect the continuity and development of professional refereeing in India. ' Contracted till August 31, the referees have asked the AIFF to 'consider extending our contracts at the earliest, so we may continue contributing to Indian football with full focus and commitment.' Indian football is facing an unprecedented crisis due to uncertainty over the top-tier Indian Super League (ISL) with FSDL, the federation's marketing partners, keeping the season on hold 'until further clarity emerges on the contractual structure beyond the end of current MRA term' on Dec 8 this year. AIFF has said its hands are tied due to an oral order from the Supreme Court that bars them from taking any decision on the renewal of the contract until the final order. Clubs, worried, are hoping that they will have some clarity after their meeting with Chaubey on Thursday. While eight clubs had officially sought an appointment, four more are expected to join hands and seek clarity. Sources said two senior FSDL officials will attend the meeting in the Capital. The meeting comes amid growing concern over the future of several clubs. Odisha FC, 'after careful and thorough consideration, and in alignment with the evolving situation,' suspended all player and staff contracts with effect from August 5, while Bengaluru FC – captained by India legend Sunil Chhetri -- said they are 'constrained to temporarily suspend all remuneration payments to all players and technical staff, with immediate effect. ' Constrained by circumstances, Chennaiyin FC were the latest to suspend all activities of the club on Wednesday. 'All clubs are constantly in touch with both, FSDL and AIFF, to keep us apprised on any developments, hoping that the impasse will be resolved sooner than later,' the club's general manager Ekansh Gupta told all players and technical staff via email on Wednesday. 'We are also keeping an eye on the Supreme Court's listing of the AIFF matter. All of us in the ecosystem are doing everything we can to ensure a positive outcome. '

Amardeep Malik surges ahead by two strokes
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Ahmedabad, Aug 6 (PTI) Amardeep Malik's hot putter helped him surge ahead by two strokes in round two of the India Open at the Kensville Golf & Country Club here on Wednesday. The Noida-based Amardeep (69-65) carded seven-under 65 to total 10-under 134 for the week in the Rs 1 crore prize money event. Angad Cheema (69-67) of Chandigarh, who was the overnight joint leader along with Malik, posted a 67 on day two to be placed second at eight-under 136. Delhi's Shaurya Bhattacharya (71-66) shot a 66 to be placed third at seven-under 137. The halfway cut fell at five-over 149. Fifty-three professionals and one amateur made the cut. Amardeep began the day with a 15-feet birdie conversion on the 10th. He then went on to pick up four more birdies from a range of eight to 20 feet on the back-nine. Amardeep's hot streak with the putter continued on the front-nine as he sank birdies from 25 feet and a mammoth 50 feet on the first and third holes respectively. Malik, a two-time winner on the PGTI, capped his round with a bogey and birdie on the fifth and sixth. 'I tried to hit the safest shot possible today and as a result found most fairways and greens. I guess I also got lucky on the tough greens today as I converted a lot of long putts," Amardeep said. 'One has to be careful with the speed because the speed is really tricky on these greens. I think sometimes a player gets into a zone where it just feels easy. 'I haven't played a lot of golf in the last two and a half months as I recently became a father. But I'm just glad to be back on the course and competing in the very first event after the resumption of the season." Angad Cheema, who recently played the qualifying event for The Open in the UK, came up with a 40-feet eagle conversion on the sixth along with five birdies and two bogeys. Delhi's Rakshit Dahiya (72-71), the only amateur in the field, made the cut as he was placed an impressive tied 12th at a total of one-under 143. Local lad Varun Parikh (74-70) was a further shot back in tied 15th position. Varun was the only Ahmedabad-based player to make the cut. Despite her strong performance and her ambition to pursue a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) degree, her family was unable to raise the required Rs 40,000 for her college admission. Her father, Theerthayya Kanabur, was helpless in the face of their severe financial hardship. The family's plight came to light through a chain of compassionate individuals. A local youth, Anil Hunsikatti, learned of Jyoti's situation and decided to seek help. He reached out to his friends who work with the IPL in Bengaluru, and they, in turn, brought the matter to the attention of Rishabh Pant. Without hesitation, the cricketer promptly arranged for the funds to be sent directly to Jyoti. Jyoti and her family have expressed their immense gratitude to Pant. In a heartfelt statement, Jyoti said, 'I had a great desire to do BCA, but my family's financial situation was not good. So, when I approached Anil Anna Hunsikatti, he asked his friends in Bengaluru. They reached out to Rishabh Pant sir. He contributed Rs 40,000 for my education, which helped me a lot." She continued, 'I pray to God to give him long life and good health and wish him more success. I also wish that he becomes a light for other poor children like me.
