Marcos responds to Duterte's controversial remarks on Senators
President Bongbong Marcos on Saturday indirectly addressed former President Rodrigo Duterte's controversial remarks about killing incumbent senators to create space for PDP-Laban candidates.
Marcos made his comments during a campaign rally in Davao del Norte, Duterte's political stronghold, where he endorsed the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial slate.
Marcos remarked, 'We see the other party… they seem unnerved, maybe even afraid of you, because when they see the Alyansa lineup, they start saying all sorts of things.'
He expressed concern about the dangerous rhetoric that normalizes violence as a political strategy.
'We just heard the other day that they said there's no hope — maybe because they have no hope themselves, so they would rather eliminate 15 senators. It's troubling that some people think the only solution to all problems is to kill more Filipinos. It's puzzling why they think that way,' he said.
While criticizing the violence-inciting rhetoric, Marcos acknowledged the competitive nature of his campaign, noting that opposing political groups may feel threatened by the strength of his slate.
'If I were in the opposing party facing this lineup, I would say this is a tough campaign. The competition is strong because if you assess each of them individually, they have outstanding records and impressive performances in their respective positions in government,' he added.
The remarks came in response to Duterte's statement at last Thursday's PDP-Laban rally, where he suggested killing senators to open up vacancies for his party's candidates.

Filipino community in Bahrain celebrates Independence Day with pride and gratitude
In honor of the 127th anniversary of the Philippine Independence Proclamation, a flag-raising ceremony and a commemorative program took place at the Sentro Rizal, Philippine Embassy Manama on June 12, 2025. The event was led by Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Her Excellency Anne Jalando-on Louis, alongside her spouse, Dr. Gerard Joseph Louis, and the officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy. This ceremony served as a reminder of the nation's hard-earned freedom and the sacrifices made by its heroes. Attendees included representatives from various Filipino community organizations, partner groups, and distinguished guests. However, Michael's challenge extended beyond mere personal athletic ability. He undertook this demanding endurance run to raise awareness about the health and welfare of cats and dogs in Bahrain. The Embassy recognized his initiative in adopting the same mission of promoting health, well-being, and social responsibility. His dedication to animal welfare exemplifies the Filipino values of compassion and service, and his accomplishments represent a significant contribution to the spirit of independence and patriotism that this special day signifies. Likewise, one of the attendees, Eliza Carang, 57, hailing from La Union, has dedicated 20 years of her career to working as a health assistant in Bahrain. She conveyed her happiness at being able to participate in the Philippine Independence Day celebration at the Philippine Embassy, describing it as a significant experience that revitalized her connection to her native land. 'As an OFW, this celebration represents proof of our determination to foster unity and collaboration among individuals in pursuit of a better life', she remarked. ICC prosecution to respond to Duterte's request for interim release
The International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecution is set to file its response to former President Rodrigo Duterte's request for interim release, which seeks to allow him to stay in a country that has reportedly agreed to receive him. In a statement, the Office of the Prosecutor confirmed that it will submit its position to Pre-Trial Chamber I, addressing the defense's application for Duterte's temporary release while facing crimes against humanity charges. 'The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court will file before the Pre-Trial Chamber I a response to the defense's request for the interim release of Mr. Rodrigo Roa Duterte,' the prosecution said via email. Duterte, through his lawyer Nicholas Kaufman, is seeking interim release to an unnamed country—its identity redacted in the public version of the 16-page filing—which he says has agreed to accept him and enforce court-imposed conditions. The defense also claims that the prosecution has not objected to the proposed interim release, provided specific conditions laid out in a confidential annex are met. Kaufman argued that Duterte does not meet the threshold for continued detention under Article 58(1)(b) of the Rome Statute, citing no flight risk, no threat to the investigation, and no risk of committing further crimes. '[Redacted] has affirmed its principled willingness to cooperate with the court, and to accept Mr. Duterte onto its territory for the duration of his interim release and enforce conditions of release,' the defense stated.
