Indian Army tests AI, surveillance tech in high-altitude ‘Divya Drishti' exercise in Sikkim

GUWAHATI: Charting the path for future warfare, the Indian Army conducted a high-altitude technology demonstration exercise named 'Divya Drishti' in east Sikkim in July 2025, testing cutting-edge systems for battlefield awareness, surveillance, and rapid decision-making.
'On the modern battlefield, the ability to see more, understand quickly, and act fast decides success,' said a statement from the Ministry of Defence, underlining the objectives of the exercise.
Troops from the Trishakti Corps deployed a combination of ground-based platforms, UAVs, and drones in realistic operational scenarios to evaluate next-generation capabilities. A major highlight was the integration of Artificial Intelligence-enabled sensors with secure communication networks, ensuring real-time data sharing between frontline units and command centres. This enhanced sensor-to-shooter connectivity enabling faster and more effective responses.
Lieutenant General Rakesh Kapoor, Deputy Chief of Army Staff, reviewed the exercise and its outcomes on behalf of Army Headquarters.
'Exercise Divya Drishti has been a great success,' said Lt Gen Zubin A Minwalla, General Officer Commanding, Trishakti Corps. 'We tested future-ready technologies under realistic conditions. The insights gained will shape the Indian Army's future doctrines and tactics, strengthening our ability to operate across all terrains and against any adversary.'
The exercise reflects the Army's commitment to technological transformation and self-reliance, aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision and the Army's Decade of Transformation roadmap, the statement added.

Hyderabad: In a stride towards enabling smarter, more efficient manufacturing in India's small and medium enterprise (SME) sector, a team from BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus has developed two innovative machine health monitoring systems — Mach-Sevak and Mach-Nirikshak — under their research-driven startup Yantraayush. Co-founded by Prof. Sabareesh G R and Prof. Radhika S, faculty members from the Departments of Mechanical and Electrical & Electronics Engineering respectively, the startup is powered by a core team including Dr. Inturi Vamsi, Dr. Hemanth Mithun Praveen, Mr. P. Anbumani, Mr. Akashjyoti Barman, and Mr. Himanshu Shukla. Yantraayush is incubated at BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus and supported by Technology Business Incubator (TBI) and the BioCyTIH Foundation. As automation becomes critical in modern industry, many MSMEs continue to face challenges due to lack of access to advanced diagnostic tools. They often rely on manual checks and reactive maintenance, which leads to unplanned downtime and expensive repairs. Yantraayush aims to close this gap by offering cost-effective, scalable, and easy-to-use solutions that help monitor the health and performance of industrial machines in real time. The result of this initiative is a dual-product suite designed to serve industries at various scales. Mach-Sevak, tailored for smaller units, offers real-time monitoring of machines of the same type. It detects faults early and operates on a plug-and-play model — eliminating the need for specialized manpower or complex installations. Mach-Nirikshak, the more advanced system, is built for industries with a variety of equipment such as pumps, motors, and gearboxes. It enables simultaneous monitoring of different machines, supports advanced data processing, and is designed to integrate with AI-based tools in the future. Its modular design allows businesses to expand and customize the system as their operations grow. Both systems were designed and developed entirely at BITS Pilani Hyderabad, with extensive collaboration from faculty, researchers, and student teams. The prototypes have been successfully tested in campus setups simulating real-world industrial environments. These systems capture and interpret machine behavior using sensor data, helping detect irregularities and assess overall machine health. What sets Yantraayush apart is its commitment to indigenous innovation. Aligned with national initiatives like Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, the systems are built using locally sourced components and in-house research, offering a reliable and affordable alternative to imported solutions. As India's MSME sector continues to evolve, tools like Mach-Sevak and Mach-Nirikshak can play a vital role in reducing downtime, improving reliability, and boosting productivity. The team plans to enhance the platform further with features such as predictive maintenance, cloud connectivity, and automated alerts — enabling smarter decisions with minimal investment. India Yamaha Motor has launched the 2025 Yamaha MT-15 Version 2.0 with key technological upgrades and refreshed styling to elevate the popular street-naked motorcycle's appeal. Priced at Rs 1.69 lakh (ex-showroom) for the standard variant and Rs 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom) for the DLX variant, the updated MT-15 now comes equipped with a colour TFT display and Bluetooth-enabled Turn-by-Turn MT-15 Version 2 DLX now features a colour TFT screen, offering smartphone connectivity through the Yamaha Y-Connect app. Riders can access features like maintenance recommendations, fuel consumption tracking, parking location, revs dashboard, malfunction alerts, and even a rider ranking system, enhancing the bike's connected experience. advertisementThe motorcycle also arrives in three new striking colour options: Ice Storm and Vivid Violet Metallic for the DLX trim, and Metallic Silver Cyan for the standard variant, adding to its aggressive streetfighter persona. A 6-speed gearbox paired with a slip and assist clutch for smoother shifts, while the traction control system enhances rider safety and confidence across varied road to the company, the Version 2 is Built on Yamaha's patented Deltabox frame, the MT-15 continues to offer sharp handling dynamics, thanks to its MotoGP-inspired aluminium swingarm and lightweight 141 kg chassis. These elements ensure a blend of stability, agility, and everyday usability. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced the prices of two new motorcycles — the CB125 Hornet and the Shine 100 DX . The CB125 Hornet is priced at ₹1,12,000 and the Shine 100 DX at ₹74,959, both ex-showroom Gurugram (Haryana). Bookings for both models are now open online and at authorised dealerships. Deliveries are expected to commence from mid-August 2025. CB125 Hornet targets urban segment The CB125 Hornet is powered by a 123.94cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected, OBD2B-compliant engine that produces 8.2 kW of power at 7,500 RPM and 11.2 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 RPM, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. It accelerates from 0 to 60 km/h in 5.4 seconds. The motorcycle features LED lighting, a TFT display with Bluetooth-enabled Honda RoadSync, USB Type-C charging, and a 240mm front disc with single-channel ABS. The CB125 Hornet also includes upside-down front forks, adjustable mono-shock rear suspension, and a range of safety and convenience features including a side-stand engine inhibitor and high-mounted turn indicators. Shine 100 DX focuses on daily commuting The Shine 100 DX continues the company's commuter-focused Shine series. It is powered by a 98.98cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine with Honda's eSP (Enhanced Smart Power) technology, delivering 5.43 kW of power at 7,500 RPM and 8.04 Nm of torque at 5,000 RPM. The engine is paired with a 4-speed gearbox. Designed for everyday use, the Shine 100 DX includes telescopic front forks, adjustable rear shock absorbers, drum brakes with Honda's Combined Braking System (CBS), and a digital LCD instrument cluster that provides real-time mileage, distance-to-empty, and service reminders. Both motorcycles will be available in multiple colour options and are part of Honda's plan to strengthen its product range across different commuter segments.
