Baby PJ in Ireland for first time as Donegal Mum and Kerry Dad in county clash ahead of All-Ireland Final
PJ has arrived in Ireland for the first time, travelling all the way from Perth, Australia with his parents, Teresa Doherty from Buncrana, Co Donegal, and Ryan Kelliher from Castlegregory, Co Kerry. The couple, who have called Australia home for over a decade, are back just in time for Sunday's All-Ireland Football Final and sparks are flying as both counties prepare to battle it out for the Sam Maguire Cup and those all important bragging rights. To keep things fair for now, PJ has been sporting a double county jersey which was a gift sent to Perth when he was just a week old. At the time, no one realised how meaningful that tiny shirt would become. Speaking from her home in Buncrana, Teresa said, 'Our wee boy is only seven months and he is stuck in the middle of it but luckily I have him here in Donegal with me so at the minute, he is pro Donegal. 'I sent a lovely photo of him wearing his Donegal jersey to his aunties in Kerry and they are looking to bring him back down but he will be staying in Donegal for the match. 'It is special having him here, especially it being his time in Ireland. 'He is in the thick of it and he will be probably be kicking a football before he can walk if his daddy has anything to do with it,' said Teresa. PJ's christening was held earlier this month and the two families came together to celebrate the special day. However, that's where the niceties ended as the friendly slagging and banter has heated up in the build up to the game. ADVERTISEMENT Learn more Teresa said if Donegal win, she will be straight down the road to Kerry on Monday morning, but if Kerry comes out on top, her family in The Kingdom won't see her for a long time. 'The slagging and the craic has been serious. 'If we win, I will be straight down the road beeping the horn through the streets,' said Teresa. Teresa moved to Australia in 2009 and has made it her home with Ryan and PJ. The couple both work for a construction company and try to get home once a year. She said the GAA has taken over Perth and in 2012 and she queued for two hours before getting into an Irish bar for the All-Ireland Final. While they are quietly hoping to secure tickets, if unsuccessful, Teresa and Ryan will unite in Donegal on Sunday morning and watch the match with family. 'Nothing beats being here with the buildup and the banter. 'The whole county is buzzing. It is great to look out and see all the flags waving and everyone up for the match. 'We are watching out for tickets but we are happy to watch the match with the family too. 'Ryan is brave enough to come to Donegal to watch the match but I am not brave enough to go to Kerry to watch it. 'We are all just going to gather together and we are all looking forward to it,' said Teresa. Teresa fondly remembers going to Buncrana after the 1992 All-Ireland Final win and seeing Paul Callaghan bring the Sam Maguire cup to the town. For her, that moment helped ignite her love of GAA. 'I remember I was up on daddy's shoulders and ever since that, I have been into the GAA. 'For Ryan, it is in his blood and it is a different animal down there. They take it very seriously.
