Marcos believes Dutertes are pro-China, expected Sara's criticism on WPS —Palace
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. expected the criticism from Vice President Sara Duterte on how the government is handling the territorial dispute in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
'The President said, ''We expect that from the Dutertes because they are pro-China. At ang Pangulo po ay pro-Filipinos (The President is pro-Filipinos),'' Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said on Tuesday during a press briefing after she was asked for comment on Duterte's recent remark over the WPS issue.
On Sunday, the Vice President expressed her disapproval of the United States deployment of the Typhon missile system in the Philippines.
'Iyong problema natin sa West Philippine Sea, does not make up our entire relations with China. And so, therefore, there is no reason for you to lean towards the US. You have to always stay in the middle because you are not a part of the bigger conflict,' Duterte said while she was in Australia.
She also believed that the Philippines is ill-equipped for war or any "global shock" due to the Marcos administration's lack of plan and direction.
'We are not prepared for drawing change, we are not prepared for war, we are not prepared for global shock because there is no plan at all, there is no vision at all,' Duterte also said.
Last month, days before Eleksyon 2025, Duterte fought back against criticisms over her supposed "deafening silence" over China's aggression in the West Philippine Sea.
"Of course I am pro-Philippines and nothing else,' said the Vice President.
Marcos and Duterte were running mates in Eleksyon 2022. Despite their victory in the polls, the relationship of the two had gone sour, with Duterte even stepping down from her post as Education secretary.
She also resigned from Lakas-CMD as its chairperson and a member, saying that she won't be able to serve the country amid "political toxicity' or undermined by "execrable political power play." —VAL, GMA Integrated News

The House of Representatives Prosecution Panel would resort going to the Supreme Court (SC) on the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte should the Senate move to dismiss the case, according to their spokesperson Atty. Antonio Audie Bucoy. "Wala kaming ibang pupuntahan kasi ang SC lang ang final judge ng Constitutional issue of whether it is compliant with the Constitution or not,' Bucoy said at the Saturday News Forum. (We have nowhere else to go because the SC is the final judge of the Constitutional issue of whether it is compliant with the Constitution or not.) Bucoy made the remark after Duterte entered a 'not guilty' plea in the verified impeachment complaint filed against her by the House of Representatives, which she called merely a 'scrap of paper.' In the 35-page answer ad cautelam (with caution) submitted by Duterte's camp to the Senate impeachment court on Monday, the Vice President argued that the fourth impeachment complaint must be dismissed for being illegal, saying that it violated the one-year bar rule under the 1987 Constitution. The House of Representatives prosecution panel, in response, asked the Senate impeachment court to reject Duterte's bid to dismiss the impeachment case against her, saying the severity of the charges requires no less than a full and transparent trial and her conviction. Should the Senate impeachment court rule in favor of the Vice President's appeal, Bucoy said the House prosecution would file before the Supreme Court a 'petition for certiorari with mandamus, questioning the exercise of abuse of discretion amounting to lack of jurisdiction.' 'Constitutional crisis' Bucoy, meanwhile, warned that it would become a 'constitutional crisis' if the Senate refuses to follow what the Supreme Court's decision would be. Chavit Singson launches 'Chavit: Legend of the Philippines' in hopes to educate and inspire globally
Chavit Singson has officially launched his book, 'Chavit: Legend of the Philippines,' which aims to offer a look into the life and lessons of the former Ilocos Sur Governor. On Friday evening at the Peninsula Manila in Makati, Singson unveiled the book at an event graced by many of his friends, including showbiz personalities Vina Morales, Pops Fernandez, Anabelle Rama, and Eddie Gutierrez. 'Chavit: Legend of the Philippines' is not a traditional autobiography but a sprawling, in-depth interview with almost 700 questions answered by Singson. Singson said that a pivotal lesson he wishes readers to glean from the book, particularly concerning his role in politics, is the supreme importance of 'credibility' for success. 'If they want to be successful, kailangan 'yung credibility nila [ay] huwag masira. Kasi like me, ang iniingatan ko, isa lang salita ko. Nobody is perfect, pero kung magsabi ka, kailangan totoo,' he said. 'Nobody's perfect. Magkamali ka, just say sorry. Kasi 'yun ang kabilin-bilinan ng tatay ko. 'Pag nawala ang credibility mo, wala na maniwala sayo. So very important ang credibility. 'Yun ang kaingat-ingatan ko.' 'I think the governor's life could fill like 10 books, not only just one, but we focused on the most important facts,' he said. Mikurda, who devoted almost 1.5 years to writing the book, said that his focus was placed on the most important facts while also deliberately incorporating Singson's personal beliefs, values, and the rules he lives by to provide deeper insight. The book's publisher, Riza Hansen, shared that they plan to distribute the books to many students across the country, as well as to translate the book into 15 languages, with an Arabic translation already underway, aiming to make it accessible to over 5 billion people worldwide. This ambitious endeavor includes organizing book launches in 20 world capitals across six continents. 'We want as many people in the world as possible to know who Chavit is and how amazing his story is, and to understand the beautiful history of our country, the Philippines,' she said. Outside of politics, Singson is also involved in the entertainment industry, helping to produce projects, including the recent film 'Samahan ng mga Makasalanan,' which starred David Licauco, Sanya Lopez, and more. He teased that he has another upcoming project with GMA Network, which is coming 'very soon.' 'Ewan ko kung kailan, pero nakahanda na. Sinabi sa akin nakahanda na lahat. Six OFWs from Iran arrive safely in PH
Six overseas Filipino workers (OFW) repatriated from Iran amid its conflict with Israel arrived safely in the Philippines on Saturday morning, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said. The OFWs — five who worked as shrimp hatchery technicians in Iran and one domestic worker from Dubai who accompanied her employer to Iran as a tourist — arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City. Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan, Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega, and DMW Assistant Secretary Venecio Legaspi welcomed the OFWs. The repatriated workers were also met by the MIA Medical Team as well as a social welfare officer of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. The OFWs boarded an Emirates flight to Manila. "The repatriation was made possible through the efforts of the Philippine Embassy in Tehran, led by Ambassador Roberto Manalo, in close coordination with the DMW and OWWA," the DMW said. The repatriated OFWs were given financial assistance by the DMW, OWWA, and DSWD. The MIA Medical Team also provided them with food and medical services. The OWWA will give the OFWs temporary hotel accommodations and domestic flights back to their home provinces. The DMW said two more OFWs from Iran are expected to arrive on Saturday night. "This group marks the first batch of Filipinos repatriated from Iran following the June 13 Israel-Iran conflict," the DMW said. President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday tasked government offices to take the necessary steps to ensure the safe and orderly return of Filipino workers who wish to avail themselves of voluntary repatriation. In a statement, Marcos said the government is already processing over 200 requests for repatriation and ''we are moving quickly to bring them home while others have opted to remain at work.'' ''I urge our fellow Filipinos to coordinate with our embassies in Tel Aviv and in Tehran. Please follow their guidance, inform them of your situation, and do not hesitate to ask for assistance,'' Marcos said. The Philippine government raised crisis alert level 3 in Israel and Iran on June 20, urging Filipinos in the area to avail of voluntary repatriation. Crisis level 3 or voluntary repatriation phase is imposed by the Philippine government on countries with deteriorating security conditions. At least 30,000 workers, mostly caregivers, are in Israel, and more than 1,000 are in Iran. Tensions heightened between Israel and Iran on June 13 after Israel struck nuclear and military targets Tehran with missiles. According to an Israeli military official, Iran had enough material to make 15 nuclear bombs within days. Iran retaliated, then both countries traded missile attacks. The US also bombed Iran nuclear sites on June 21, and Iran thereafter fired missiles at an American base in Qatar on June 23.
