Edinburgh Fringe Hot Tickets 2025: Here are all 17 Edinburgh Comedy Award winners returning this year
Launched in 1981, the award is presented to the comedy show judged to have been the best at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and is recognised as the most prestigious comedy prize in the UK.
Formerly known as the Perrier Award , it is designed to promote acts that have yet to become household names, so comedians judged to have 'star status' are not eligible - for instance if they have a show on a major television channel or can regularly fill a 500-set venue.
The first winners were a talent-packed Cambridge Footlights featuring Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Tony Slattery and Emma Thompson, while other names catapulted to fame by the award over the years include Steve Coogan, Jenny Eclair, The League of Gentlemen, Dylan Moran, Al Murray, Tim Key, and Emmy -winning Baby Reindeer star Richard Gadd .
A Best Newcomer Award was added in 1992, followed by a Panel Prize in 2006 - for those who have made a particularly special contribution to the Fringe Festival.

1 . Urooj Ashfaq
Urooj Ashfaq won the Edinburgh Comedy Award for best Newcomer in 2023 for her show 'Oh No!', about "her, her family, things that annoy her, and things she loves". This year she's back with a new hour entitled 'How To Be A Baddie' in which she promises to be a "bona fide bad girl and edgelord who at times mentions sexy things and topics..." 2 . Jordan Brookes
Officially the longest-reigning Edinburgh Comedy Award winner of all time (he won in 2019 before the global pandemic led to a three year break before the prize was awarded again), Jordan Brookes is back in Edinburgh with a work in progress show called 'Until The Wheels Come Off'. 3 . Lara Ricote
Another former winner bringing a work in progress show to Edinburgh is Lara Ricote, who took home the Best Newcomer trophy in 2022 with her show 'GRL/LATNX/DEF'. She didn't even have an idea for a show when she had to submit a description for the Fringe programme, so we know nothing about it. 4 . Adam Riches
The Edinburgh Comedy Award shortlist was particularly strong in 2011, including Andrew Maxwell, Chris Ramsey, Josie Long, Nick Helm and future winner Sam Simmon. But it was the character and sketch comedy of Adam Riches, in 'Bring Me the Head of Adam Riches' that most impressed the judges. The hugely-entertaining performer last year made the switch to the theatre section with a critically-acclaimed show about tennis player Jimmy Connors. This year he's back to comedy with a typically singular slant, namely "medieval heartstab Sean Bean is going to read 15th century Middle English tome Le Morte d'Arthur out loud, for an hour. Kyle had the crazy idea two years ago and teamed up with sponsors Red Bull to make 'Can He Hop It?' happen, with the company providing Sebastian Vettel's 2011 title-winning RB7 V12 model motor plus the precision timings, given to the rider by a beep in his ear. After seven months of training, much of it centred around strengthening his legs including looking like a 'nutcase' walking the dog in a weighted vest, the initial date had to be aborted due to strong winds. So a back-up date was set at Goodwood, where - despite still some significant wind - Kyle had a 30-minute window and one take to pull off his monumental feat on the custom-built one-off titanium and carbon fibre bike. Kyle told SunSport: 'This was probably the scariest one that I have done so far. So many things could go wrong. 'All I need is a bad gust, and I'm not gonna make it, or be too early or too late. 'You could like hurt yourself, or you could die. It's so horrible but the feeling when you land it, that's why I do it, for the sheer feeling of that, it's like no other. And it has certainly given him - and his loved ones - some hair-raising moments through the years. Kyle, who has escaped relatively unscathed by only breaking his ankle, toes, ribs and thumb, added: 'It's my job to think of these crazy ideas that no one's done before. Solo traveller details surprising aspects of Ibiza nightlife and safety tips for women
A woman from the UK has shared her experience travelling to Ibiza alone and was surprised to find out what it was like to head to the clubs and strip on her own A British woman who embarked on a solo trip to Ibiza has shared her experiences of hitting the mega-clubs and strip alone, revealing one surprising detail. Penny Uro spent four days and three nights at Hotel Vibra Algarb in Playa d'en Bossa, just two miles from Ibiza Town. She decided to travel independently, wanting to "let her hair down" after facing some personal challenges. The 41-year-old single parent took to Instagram to share her insights with her 24,000 followers in a video titled: "Things I learned as a solo traveller to Ibiza". The Daily Star reports she advises single women to pack earplugs, opt for comfortable footwear in nightclubs, make friends with other solo travellers, and explore beachside eateries together. The globe-trotting enthusiast first gave her verdict on the clubs. Penny said: "Go to the Old Town, Ibiza has so much more than bars and clubs. "Ushuaïa Ibiza had the best atmosphere by far. Pacha and Hï Ibiza were packed, think tinned sardines. Drinks were prohibitively expensive - €18 for water, €30 for vodka and Coke." Speaking to What's The Jam later, she revealed the world-class nightlife was the 'sole' reason she chose to visit Ibiza. Despite most people travelling to Ibiza in large groups, Penny didn't want to miss out on letting her hair down and decided to go alone. Although initially attracted to the Spanish island for its nightlife and clubs, she found the beach clubs were where she had the most fun. However, Penny - who practises as a solicitor in the Midlands - confessed she was taken aback by the widespread drug scene on the island. While strolling along the strip, Penny remarked: "Every other person who walked past me was as high as a kite, but no one was intimidating, and everyone was just there having a good time. "Alcohol in clubs is extremely expensive, so I can see why people turn to other things. "While walking from the club to my hotel at 1am, about a 10-minute walk, I was approached eight times by different men trying to sell me drugs, which I found quite surprising." Beyond that, the only other drawback was feeling like a 'sardine' in the 'packed' clubs where Penny felt like she couldn't move much, let alone dance. Her video has garnered more than 26,000 views and countless comments on her 'Penny Goes Travelling' Instagram account. Despite having visited Egypt multiple times before, she described the "hassling for money and scamming culture so exhausting" during her latest trip. She was allegedly bothered by Uber drivers, tour guides, street vendors, and airport staff - even whilst travelling with four men and a child. The globe-trotter described her hotel experience as "shocking", citing relentless harassment for tips and catcalling. She further commented: "Even though I was travelling with four men, it seems that doesn't put the locals off. I used to get hassled a lot, but I was never put in a place of fear. "But this time, I experienced physical force, aggression, and people actively following me into private areas like the ladies' toilets. "If you don't mind being ogled at, cat called, constantly asked for money in return for nothing, and if you enjoy your personal space being invaded, then Egypt is perfect. "Otherwise, get back on the plane."
