Best for: Ibiza-lovers
Headliners: Ezra Collective, Kelly Lee Owens, Horse Meat Disco
Ticket prices: Ticket and 3* hotels start at £391 per person for a 7-day stay
Largely thanks to TikTok, Albania has exploded in popularity in recent years. The popular coastal resort of Sarandë in the southwest claimed the 'world's bluest waters' title last year.
Located on Dhermi Beach, KALA Festival is perfect for people who love the Ibiza music scene.
The event takes place between June 4 and 11, with a lineup that fuses disco, house, soul and jazz against a backdrop of dazzling coastline.
Festival-goers will no doubt want to extend their stay to explore this stunning part of the world. After a wild weekend, relax on the white sands or stroll through the plethora of villages dotted along the coast. https://www.instagram.com/p/DH6c4fdIxi7/?img_index=1
The region offers plenty of hiking opportunities, including Llogara National Park, the Southern Coastal Trail, and the Karaburun Peninsula.
It's worth doing your research, though. Metro's Alice Murphy recently discovered that parts of the Albanian coastline are not quite the paradise they appear to be online.
She noted that an unprecedented tourism boom has 'spawned a flurry of construction that threatens to overshadow the spectacular scenery this Balkan gem has to offer.'
Instead of Ksamil or Sarandë, Alice recommends heading for lesser-known spots such as Rana e Hedhun beach, a stunning stretch of sand in the north, or Lin, said to be Europe's oldest inhabited village.
Other under-the-radar destinations include Gjirokastër: an old stone town from the Ottoman Empire that's now been designated a UNESCO world heritage site, and the Cape of Rodon, a rocky peninsula just over an hour's drive from Tirana, where you can gaze out to sea and take in Albania's unspoiled nature.
Best for: People who enjoy a diverse range of genres
Headliners: Alcest, Jambinai, Ellen Allien
Ticket prices: £75.71 for a 4-day general admission ticket
Mongolia boasts breathtaking landscapes, from vast steppes to rolling plateaus and towering mountains.
This landlocked country in East Asia is perfect for travellers who love authentic, unconventional getaways.
Its cities, including the capital Ulaanbaatar, blend modern development with traditional buildings, surrounded by nature. This is where Playtime Festival is held. https://www.instagram.com/p/DDd8VdlhbXz/?hl=en&img_index=1
Complete with a diverse range of genres, from rock, indie, metal, electronic and jazz, there's something for everyone.
The festival runs from July 3-6 and both local and international artists appear on the lineup.
Away from the music, Ulaanbaatar offers plenty of things to do, from the Natural History Museum to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, just outside the city.
For thrillseekers, there's the Gobi Desert. Surrounded by otherworldly landscape, go camel riding or hike the sandstone cliffs of Tsagaan Suvraga.
To truly live like the locals, join a foodie tour in Ulaanbaatar which includes a visit to the market and dinner with a Mongolian family. There are also nomadic versions with rural communities in Middle Gobi. Homestays with yak herders in the Khangai Mountains are an option, too.
Mongolian cuisine is big on meat and dairy, reflecting the country's migratory past and livestock reliance. Cooking techniques focus on boiling and roasting, as well as using hot stones to cook meat and veggies.
Best for: Sustainable travellers
Headliners: Fred Again, Vulfpeck, Vampire Weekend, Haim, Confidence Man, English Teacher, Barry Can't Swim
Ticket prices: £306 for a 3-day general admission ticket
From 78p corner shop food in Osaka to the quaint seaside city of Kamakura, team Metro will sing Japan's praises until the cows come home.
So, imagine how much we want to go to Fuji Rock Festival in Honshu Island's city of Niigata, one of the largest outdoor music festivals in the country.
However the festival is still relatively undiscovered outside Japan. Taking place every summer at the Naeba Ski Resort in Yuzawa, this year, the dates fall on July 25-27. The line-up is a solid mix of rock, electronic, pop and indie.
The festival is committed to being eco-friendly; several sustainable initiatives are in place, and attendees are actively encouraged to clean up after themselves. https://www.instagram.com/p/DG2bS6pz6J9/?hl=en
Often referred to as one of the most scenic festivals in the world, Fuji Rock Festival plays out surrounded by forests, mountains and rivers.
Beyond the gigs, there's plenty to do in the local area, from hiking Mount Naeba to rafting on the Tone River in nearby Minakami or relaxing in Naeba hot springs. Niigata is a destination made for adventure-seekers.
In 2023, Metro voted 'immersing yourself in sake' as one of the coolest things to do in Japan.
That requires a visit to Niigata, where the landscape of soft, clear water and abundance of rice paddies has transformed the area into Japan's top sake-producing region.
Best for: Travellers who love a laid-back atmosphere
Headliners: Georgia, Evan Baggs, Margaret Dygas
Ticket prices: Final release tickets, £235
From cobalt blue waters to charming old towns, Croatia is beauty personified.
North along the Adriatic Sea you'll find Dimensions Festival, an intimate electronic musical smorgasbord, featuring house, techno, electro and bass.
Located at The Garden Resort, the event takes place between August 28 and September 1. https://www.instagram.com/p/DJB4Na0opSf/?hl=en
Expect small boat parties, beach sessions and immersive after-dark performances. Due to its idyllic location, festivalgoers can lounge and relax in the daytime before dancing the night away.
Before or after the festival, make sure to check out the beautiful Old Town of Tisno, or travel up the coast to the ancient city of Zadar.
Last year, Metro's Lillie Rohan visited Dubrovnik, Croatia's most iconic holiday destination, and discovered the city's best-kept secret. Aka, the best bar she's ever been to.
Lillie writes: 'A 15-minute drive from the Unesco-protected Old Town, which served as the main film set for HBO's Game Of Thrones, you'll find Love Bar hidden in the hillside.
'It is so well concealed that most only find it by accident; a sign on a nearby roof and an arrow on the roadside are the only indicators that something special awaits up a steep flight of stairs. The climb is tough, but your reward is a sweeping panorama that provides the perfect backdrop for an Instagrammable sunset.'
Best for: Pool party vibes
Headliners: Morgan Wallen, Post Malone, Brooks & Dunn, Hardy
Ticket prices: £449 plus fees for a general admission ticket
If the words 'beach festival' give you butterflies, check out The Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Offering the perfect mix of music, chilled vibes and sunshine, the event is home to an array of pop, rock, hip-hop, indie and EDM genres. More Trending
Past headliners include major names, including Billie Eilish, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Kendrick Lamar. The festival takes place from May 16-18. https://www.instagram.com/p/C7P8qxRNGhQ/?hl=en
Looking for something to do after the event? The coastal city of Gulf Shores provides plenty of entertainment for all types of travellers.
Adrenaline junkie? Try water sports in the 32 miles of sugar-white sand beaches, hiking and biking on the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail, or zip lining over the dunes.
After more of a relaxing affair? The city has plenty of spas to help you unwind.
Famous festivals such as Coachella in California and Tomorrowland in Belgium are falling victim to the effects of overtourism.
Clare Tobin, CEO at Wild Frontiers, the B Corp adventure travel experts, tells Metro: 'Many of these large-scale festivals are said to now prioritise life through a lens, with some attendees reporting a loss of authenticity around the celebration of music and the destination's culture.'
While nothing quite compares to the feeling of listening to live music on a hot summer's day, Clare warns it can come at a cost.
'Travelling overseas to experience live music can often mean that people fly in and out of a destination in a short period of time, meaning they don't get to experience the true authenticity of the location, connect with the local community or contribute to the local economy,' she says.
She says lesser-known events give music-lovers also seeking adventure to experience the best of both worlds.
Clare adds: 'These events offer an opportunity to extend your stay and spend more time exploring the local area, which in turn allows you to gain a deeper cultural connection, discover local artists and enjoy more enriching experiences. It also means that your visit will have a more positive economic impact on the local community.'

How tensions between Andy Caroll and ex Billi are set to EXPLODE as he flaunts sexy new girl while she looks after kids

THEY look like the perfect A-list couple, flaunting their chiselled abs and lithe tanned limbs in a Instagram holiday photo album even the Kardashians would be envious of. But behind the scenes of Andy Carrol and Lou Teasdale 's never-ending Ibiza break is a fractious war of tensions with his ex Billi Mucklow - who he spilt from just 11 months ago - with pals of the star telling The Sun: "It's a pressure cooker waiting to explode." 7 7 And while former Towie star Billi has kept a dignified silence, sources say those around her are astounded by his brutal antics, flaunting his new relationship in her face while she comes to terms with the end of her 11-year relationship. Left home with the kids One told us: 'Everyone thinks Andy is acting like an utter p***k and is making himself look like a total fool posting so many sexy shots with Lou - who he moved on with alarmingly quickly after separating from the mother of his kids. 'While he is off galavanting around the party island, posting all these snaps that scream 'we are having hot sex!', Billi is at home looking after not only their children, but his two kids from a previous relationship with ex-fiancee Faye Johnstone. 'It's a silent gut-punch to Billie, who is an angel and adores the kids - looking after them and protecting them from this circus is her number one priority. 7 7 "To her it's second nature to be there for them and to be their caregiver." Indeed, just last week Billi posted a sweet snap of all five kids on social media, bearing the caption: "You kids are my world. You are everything I will ever need. I adore you." But while Billi is focusing on raising her brood, her pals are annoyed that she's the one holding the fort at home alone. The insider continued: 'For us, the people who know Billi well, it's galling to see her carrying the load while Andy is gallivanting by the beach with Lou. 'This isn't a one-off either." Just weeks after The Sun revealed Andy and Lou were an item, they jetted to Mallorca for their first holiday as a couple. Andy Carroll and Lou Teasdale can't keep their hands off each other on first holiday as they confirm romance And since then they've enjoyed several more trips to Mallorca, south of France and Ibiza. Andy and Billi split just two years after tying the knot. In a statement to The Sun at the time, Andy said: "Billi and I have privately separated earlier this year and we are under way with our divorce proceedings. "It has been a hard few months for our family and we continue to move forward amicably for our children." Our source adds: 'We were all shocked when he went public with Lou in October just three months after he announced his split with Billi amid fears he was cheating. 'We think it'd be interesting to hear what Lou makes of it all, given she's a mum too and would know that Billi is picking up the load for Andy." In contrast to Andy's jet set life, Billi spends her days running a home with five children - on the school run, cooking and doing the washing. The source continues: 'The whole situation feels very disrespectful - but Billi has made it clear she won't be drawn into any of Andy's nonsense. 'She is holding her head high and just minding her own business - being a strong female role model for all the kids is her MO. 'For Billi, being a good mum to the kids they shared for many years is all that matters. Billi has no interest in dating right now. Billi's focus is on being a good mum to the kids and building a stable life for them all Insider "While the kids are with Billi, Andy sees them all as much as he can. 'Billi's mates have been rallying around her and it's the same with her family. It's not a 'woe is me' situation. She's had a really hard time but she doesn't want anyone feeling sorry for her, she is just getting on with it. 'But Andy should be ashamed of himself for how he has been acting. It's like watching a teenage kid, not a grown man with responsibilities." Pricey divorce Those close to Billi said her legal team is currently thrashing out the terms of her divorce with Andy. He's a footballer worth millions - Liverpool negotiated a transfer fee of £35 million while West Ham splashed out £15 million - so there's a huge amount of money at stake in this legal battle. They added: 'Naturally there has been a lot of back and forth but Billi is hoping that a line can be drawn under it all soon. "She has no interest in dating right now. Billi's focus is on being a good mum to the kids and building a stable life for them all." 7

Doctor Who's finale infuriated fans – but the next series will fix everything

Doctor Who is in an odd place both in the fictional universe it inhabits and our mundane reality. Last we saw, the tenacious Time Lord Ncuti Gatwa was burning away to reveal the Doctor's new face, and it looked very familiar. For whatever reason, the Last of the Time Lords appeared to have taken on the form of his old companion Rose Tyler (Billie Piper). Needless to say, this sudden and unexpected transformation has left a lot of fans very curious – and in some cases downright furious – about what's next for the good doctor. Annoyingly, however, the BBC and Russell T Davies have remained tight-lipped on the situation and at the time of writing, there's been no word on the beloved sci-fi series' future or whether Disney is interested in helping finance another run. So what's a Gallifreyan superfan to do then? Well, here at Metro we've gathered our team of dedicated Doctor Who experts – Deputy TB Editor Tom Percival, TV Reporter Asyia Iftikhar, and Senior TV Reporter Rebecca Cooke – and cracked out the crystal ball to predict what's next for the show, both in terms of the story and the thorny world of TV production. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. Don't worry, though, most of us are predicting a happy ending for the Doctor. It might just be me, but it seems painfully obvious where Doctor Who is going next. Regardless of Disney's involvement, I think we're getting at least one more special, and I don't believe that Billie is playing a true incarnation of the Doctor. Instead, it seems far more plausible that she's the Bad Wolf entity borrowing the Doctor's body. Basically, in this imagined special, we'd learn that Rose's consciousness exists in the Time Vortex as Bad Wolf. When 15 poured his regeneration energy into the time vortex to bring back Poppy, part of that consciousness merged with the Doctor. Sadly, it's not a true regeneration, and this new 'Meta-Crisis Rose Doctor' has a limited time until the body finishes 'cooking' and the true 16th Doc emerges. In that time, though, she has all Rose's memories and all the Doctor's abilities, so she decides to track down her Doctor… aka David Tennant. Over the course of a special, we then get 'Rose Doctor' travelling through the Doctor's timeline, running into some familiar faces (old companions and some returning Doctors perhaps?) before one final tear-jerking run-in with the 10th Doctor giving closure on Davies' tenure and the revived Doctor Who series. Basically it's one big happy ending. What happens next depends on whether the BBC wants more Doctor Who or not. But either way, I think it'll end with the Rose Doctor regenerating into the true 16th Doctor. This will either lead to a third season or, if the BBC decides it's done with Who, the regeneration will be left open-ended for some future writer to pick up a decade or so from now. Whatever happens, though, I think it's time for some fresh blood, and that means two things. Drop Russell T Davies and leave the nostalgia for New Who behind. Change is part of the show's DNA, and the refusal to 'regenerate' has been holding the series back. Disney will pull out of the deal, and the show will fall back into the BBC's hands, returning with a 2026 festive special by which time they will have chosen the 16th Doctor proper. In the Christmas special, much like Susan's cameo was teased and never addressed again in season two, Billie Piper will make a fleeting appearance before the show quickly moves on. I believe she won't even last the full episode, and her cameo will be resolved perhaps even in the first 5 to 10 minutes, as the Doctor's regeneration goes wacky due to Rose's energy being in the Time Vortex after the Bad Wolf incident. Billie will then regenerate into thetrue16th Doctor, who will have their introductory adventure. The show will then return in 2027 for a full season three (ideally returning to, at least, the 10-episode structure provided for Jodie Whittaker's era) with a brand new companion. Belinda Chandra, Ruby Sunday, the 15th Doctor, and whoever Billie is portraying will be firmly left in the past – and, like you, I hope and assume there will be a new showrunner. It's fair to say the Billie Piper reveal has not gone down well. Most see it as the Whoniverse putting the brand on life support, where the memories of the good ol' heyday of the Russell reboot are intravenously administered to keep the dwindling fanbase hopeful that our ailing Tardis might pull through. So, if an idea like, say, bringing back a beloved companion and defying show logic by making her a Time Lord were to backfire, how best to style it out? This season gave fans a lot of things on their wishlist: big budget, stellar Doctor, lovable companion, some cracking episodes (Lux, The Well, etc). But still, it seemed the only fans tuning in were the meta superfans we met when the Doctor battled Mr Ring-a-Ding. Let's go out on a limb here and say that Disney won't back out. That Rose is the Sixteenth Doctor. (All the logical predictions have been taken.) In order to get fans back in and keep Disney sweet, we might have a big shake-up on our hands. Huge. Piper is so bonkers and out-there a person to appear in the regeneration, it could upset the time-space continuum enough to usher in the new normal: a Doctor-of-the-week format. More Trending Hear me out. Perhaps Piper is explained away with some timey-wimey nonsense, and perhaps it turns out the mechanics of Time Lord-dom are broken. He/she/they is regenerating every hour of television, to be precise. Which Doctor Who prediction do you think is right? So, for a one-off special season, playing the Doctor will be the new equivalent to hosting Saturday Night Live. Or going on Snack Wars. Or eating some chicken in whichever poultry promotional content you prefer. A rotating cast of 'Doctor Who's who'. The whiff of desperation is already in the air, so why not lean in? My date was a terrible kisser - but that wasn't the worst part

Jay* held my hand as he walked me back to my car, telling me he didn't want the night to end. We had talked and laughed throughout dinner before going to a show. We spoke about everything, from my disability – I am an ambulatory wheelchair user with chronic pain, as well as autistic and have ADHD – my job, love of musical theatre, and his passion for travel. He even told me more about his family and how he had recently been to visit them for a holiday. When we got back into my car after my dream date, we continued talking, while listening to music. Eventually he leaned over and kissed me. I'd been waiting for this all night. And that's where things started to go wrong. The kiss was bad. Oh god, it was terrible. It was sloppy, all teeth, as if he'd never kissed anyone before and had no idea what he was doing. He'd clearly never even practiced on the back of his hand. He kissed me a few more times and I found myself pulling away because it was so unappealing. I was shocked and extremely disappointed; kissing is important to me – I love a snogging session. So, How Did It Go? is a weekly series that will make you cringe with second-hand embarrassment or ooze with jealousy as people share their worst and best date stories. Want to spill the beans about your own awkward encounter or love story? Contact I went home feeling unsure. Jay was the best date I'd had in a long time but if he couldn't deliver on the kissing front, I wasn't sure I was willing to compromise. This uncertainty prompted me to try to find out more about him. Jay had sent me a screenshot of our dinner table reservation, which had given me his full name, so I typed it into the search engine. His Facebook account popped straight up. And right there, at the top of his feed, was a wedding picture of him and his new bride – from three weeks earlier. I felt a punch in my stomach, and then I started to laugh. I had been lied to and didn't even consider there to be another explanation. He was married. And I instantly decided that I was never seeing him again. I clicked on the picture. There were over 30 comments congratulating Jay and his wife, as well as his replies, thanking them. The most galling part is that the pictures were taken in the same location he had told me he had been to visit his family on 'holiday'. But that was clearly where he had done his wedding ceremony. By this time, it was after midnight and I knew Jay would be asleep. So I decided to take a screenshot of the wedding photo with the comments and send it to him on WhatsApp. 'Would you like to explain this?' I wrote. No immediate response. Lying in bed that night, I couldn't help but look back on the date. There wasn't actually anything he said or did to raise any red flags that he could be married, so I'm glad I was proactive and looked him up. A part of me was relieved because this meant that I didn't have to kiss him again. In fact, I even felt sorry for his wife. The next morning, I still didn't have a reply from Jay so I checked his profile and discovered that he had blocked me on everything. To this day, I have never seen or heard from him. H The whole experience made me even more cautious about dating than I already was; it made me question others' intentions, whether they are already in a relationship, who to trust, and so much more. More Trending Yet I knew I couldn't judge all men by that one guy. That hasn't stopped me from asking dates I've been on if they're married. I try to laugh it off, but it is always in the back of my head that I am being lied to. I am extremely paranoid. I now know to trust my gut when it comes to bad kissing – and definitely not settle for it. *Name has been changed Do you have a story you'd like to share?
