SINGAPORE – A man accused of stabbing another person at the void deck of Block 467B Yishun Avenue 6 was handed an assault charge on June 17.
Court documents stated that Singaporean Prabhakaran Vinayaka, 31, allegedly used a 'sharp object' to stab the man's chest once, shortly before 7.50pm on June 13.
In a statement, the police said that the 29-year-old victim was conscious when he was taken to hospital.
Chinese-language news platform Shin Min Daily News earlier cited a resident as saying that the victim was her neighbour and that he was with his two children when the incident occurred.
The man reportedly took his children home after he was injured. The children went to the woman's flat to ask for help.
She rushed over to their home and saw that the man was bleeding.
According to the woman, she applied pressure on the wound to staunch the bleeding and got the other neighbours to call an ambulance.
Prabhakaran's case will be mentioned again in court on June 24.
An offender convicted of using a weapon to commit assault can be jailed for up to seven years, fined, caned, or receive any combination of such punishments.

Viasat identified as victim in Chinese Salt Typhoon cyberespionage, Bloomberg News reports

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Viasat Inc has been identified as a victim of the Chinese-linked Salt Typhoon cyberespionage operation during last year's presidential campaign, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday. The breach at the satellite communications firm was discovered earlier this year and Viasat has been working with the government in the aftermath, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter. Viasat and its independent third-party cybersecurity partner investigated unauthorized access through a compromised device but found no evidence of customer impact, the company said in a statement. "Viasat believes that the incident has been remediated and has not detected any recent activity related to this event," the company said, adding that it was engaged with the government as part of its investigation. U.S. officials have previously alleged that hackers targeted telecom companies such as Verizon, AT&T, Lumen, and others, stealing telephone audio intercepts along with a significant amount of call record data. In December, the officials added a ninth unnamed telecom company to the list of entities compromised by the Salt Typhoon hackers and said that the Chinese operatives gained access to networks with broad and full access, enabling them to "geolocate millions of individuals, to record phone calls at will". Targets of Salt Typhoon reportedly included officials connected to the presidential campaigns of both Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump. Chinese officials have previously dismissed the allegations as disinformation, asserting that Beijing "firmly opposes and combats cyber attacks and cyber theft in all forms". Explosion at fireworks factory in southern China kills 9, injures 26

BEIJING – An explosion at a fireworks factory in the southern Chinese province of Hunan killed nine people and injured 26 others, the state-run Xinhua news agency said on June 17. The blast occurred at around 8.23am local time on June 16 at a factory owned by the Hunan Shanzhou Fireworks Company in a mountainous area just over 60km north of the city of Changde. Videos published by state media showed black and grey smoke rising into the sky as fireworks exploded out of a raging fire while emergency services surveyed the scene. A team from the Ministry of Emergency Management was also sent to the site, Xinhua said. The blast comes just weeks after an explosion at a chemical plant in north-eastern China that killed at least five people, and highlights the risk in storage of hazardous and flammable chemicals in the world's top manufacturer despite years of crackdown on unsafe practices. Two massive explosions at warehouses in the port city of Tianjin in 2015 killed over 170 people and injured 700, prompting the government to overhaul its chemical storage laws. It took firefighters more than 20 hours to contain the June 16 blaze, according to local media. The governor of Hunan province, Mr Mao Weiming, visited the site on June 17 and urged the local authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the explosion and hold those responsible to account, local media reported. Hunan Shanzhou Fireworks Company, headquartered in Changde, was established in 2017 and employs 95 people, according to company information tracker Qichacha. It produces the chemicals used for making explosives, detonators and fireworks. REUTERS Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.
