These Are the Top Pizza Places in Europe—and Why You Won't Find a Single Italian Spot on the List

Grab your napkins, maybe some crushed red pepper, and a little extra Parmesan, because it's time to celebrate the 50 best pizza places in Europe, excluding Italy.
Yes, you read that correctly. 50 Top Pizza's list of the best pizzerias in Europe doesn't include a single mention of Italy. But before you spiral into a mozzarella-filled rage, know that this is on purpose, as the European nation and capital of all things pizza has its own dedicated list, simply because Italian pizzerias would blow everyone else out of the water. So really, think of this list as the "50 best pizza places in Europe outside of Italy list," instead.
Now that we've got that out of the way, it's time to celebrate the other spots making a splash with their delicious pies. According to the experts behind the rankings, this year's top pizza spot on the continent is Napoli on the Road, located in the United Kingdom.
"Napoli on the Road is much more than just a pizzeria: it is the symbol of a new era of Neapolitan pizza in the United Kingdom," the pizza rankings explained. "Led by the talented Michele Pascarella, awarded in 2023 as the best pizza maker in Europe, this project has revolutionized the concept of contemporary pizzeria. With locations in Chiswick and Richmond, every detail is designed to offer a dynamic and ever-evolving gastronomic experience: the menu changes every three months, following seasonality and the excellence of selected ingredients."
It also noted that the shop's dough is a highlight as it offers "bold yet balanced combinations."
Joining Napoli on the Road at the top of the list is Baldoria in Madrid, which won accolades for its "efficient and friendly" staff and inventive pies like the Bufala Fest, which comes topped with roasted San Marzano tomato sauce, confit cherry tomatoes, Parmesan chips, and basil pesto.
Third place is a tie between Via Toledo in Vienna, Austria, and Sartoria Panatieri in Barcelona. Via Toledo took a top spot thanks to its "excellent fresh ingredients from Italy." The rankings added that in some pizzas, you will also "find a bit of the flavors of Puglia, the region of origin of Francesco and Chiara, the founders, which brings a nice element of creativity." As for Sartoria Panatieri, it won high praise thanks to not just its pies but also its fantastic selection of appetizers, wide selection of craft beers, and delicious desserts. "The desserts, obviously artisanal, are almost like grandmother's treats, and a must-try is the blueberry and mascarpone tart," the rankings stated.
50 Top Pizza explained that the top 20 pizza places in Europe are automatically put in the 100 Best Pizzerias in the World list, joining others from Asia-Pacific, the U.S., Latin America, and, of course, Italy. The final awards take place on Sept. 8 and will surely be the most delicious ceremony imaginable.

How the Beach Boys' ‘Pet Sounds' Entered the Pop Music Pantheon. (Eventually.)

Making a list of the best rock albums ever is easy: Something old (the Beatles), something new or newer (perhaps Radiohead), something borrowed (the Rolling Stones' blues or disco pastiches) and Joni Mitchell's 'Blue.' And, of course, bursting into the top 10 — and often higher — of any respectable list: 'Pet Sounds.' The overwhelming brainchild of Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys' chief songwriter whose death at 82 was announced on Wednesday, 'Pet Sounds' is beautiful — with gorgeous vocal harmonies, haunting timbres and wistful lyrics of adolescent longing and estrangement. It was a landmark in studio experimentation that changed the idea of how albums could be made. But one thing that stands out about the Beach Boys' masterpiece is how gradually it came to be widely celebrated, compared with many of its peers. 'When it was released in the United States,' said Jan Butler, a senior lecturer in popular music at Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom, 'it did pretty well, but for the Beach Boys, it was considered a flop.' Released in the spring of 1966, 'Pet Sounds' represented a break from the catchy tunes about surfing, cars and girls that the group had consistently rode to the top of the charts. The opening track is called 'Wouldn't It Be Nice,' but previous Beach Boys songs had described how nice it was. The album peaked at No. 10 — low for one of the most popular acts at the time — and was the first Beach Boys album in three years not to reach gold status, Butler wrote in a chapter of an academic book. The Beach Boys' record company, Capitol, rushed out a greatest-hits that outsold the album of original music. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Bruce Springsteen's ‘Born To Run' Debuts On One Chart Just Before It Turns 50

Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run debuts at No. 92 on the U.K.'s Official Album Downloads chart nearly ... More 50 years after its original release. UNITED STATES - OCTOBER 11: REDBANK Photo of Bruce SPRINGSTEEN, Bruce Springsteen performing on stage - Born to Run Tour, 47 (Photo by Fin Costello/Redferns) By 1975, Bruce Springsteen was already a rock hero in his home state of New Jersey. He had charted a few successful albums, but had yet to break out and become a certified superstar. His third full-length, Born to Run, changed everything. It helped him achieve remarkable success and reach new career heights. Even five decades later, Born to Run is still regarded as not just a blockbuster, but a masterpiece in its own right. Fans all around the world are spending 2025 celebrating Born to Run and its legacy. The title is once again a bestseller, and for the first time, it appears on one important list in the United Kingdom. This week marks the first time the beloved project appears on the Official Albums Downloads chart, which ranks the top-selling full-lengths and EPs on platforms like iTunes in the U.K. Born to Run narrowly makes it to the list, opening at No. 92. Born to Run marks Springsteen's second new arrival on the Official Album Downloads chart this year alone. Just a few weeks ago, he launched his surprise live EP Land of Hope and Dreams, which debuted inside the top 10 and eventually peaked at No. 6. That project was recorded in mid-May at the opening show of the latest leg of his concert tour of the same name. The performance in Manchester sparked controversy after the rocker spoke out against U.S. President Donald Trump. Springsteen included those remarks on the live EP, which helped make it a bestseller in the U.K. Springsteen's debut on the Official Album Downloads ranking comes nearly 50 years after Born to Run first landed on the Official Albums chart, which tracks the most-consumed projects in the nation. Springsteen earned his first successful full-length in the country in November 1975. Born to Run went on to spend just under a year on the list and peaked at No. 17. At the moment, Springsteen charts six albums on at least one U.K. tally apiece. Born to Run is one of a trio — including Land of Hope and Dreams and The River — that all live on just one ranking apiece. Meanwhile, Best of, Greatest Hits, and Born in the U.S.A. appear on several rosters at once.

Metallica Dominates One Chart As Several Blockbuster Albums Return

Last week, Metallica celebrated its presence on one chart in the United Kingdom as the band's self-titled effort — often referred to simply as The Black Album — reached a major milestone. That set is still performing well, and this time around, it's joined by several other notable releases as consumption of the group's music grows significantly. Three Metallica projects return to the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart this week. 72 Seasons, Master of Puppets, and Ride the Lightning reenter the genre-specific ranking at Nos. 27, 35, and 38, respectively. Two of those three efforts have previously topped the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. Ride the Lightning is the only one that has thus far failed to do so, though it came very close when it peaked in the runner-up spot. Metallica claims 10% of the 40-position Official Rock & Metal Albums ranking this week as its self-titled effort jumps nearly 10 spaces and lands at No. 29, just two spots behind 72 Seasons. Last frame, it celebrated 1,000 weeks as one of the top-selling rock or metal projects in the country. Metallica — the album — doubles the number of tallies it appears on as it breaks back onto the Official Album Downloads list this frame. It finds a home at No. 97 on that roster, earning just its thirty-fifth stay as one of the most downloaded full-lengths in the U.K. Impressively, Metallica claims twice as many successful albums as hit songs this week. The group fills a pair of spaces inside the top 40 on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart as "Enter Sandman" holds at No. 7 and "Nothing Else Matters" lifts several spaces to No. 34.
