These Are the Top Pizza Places in Europe—and Why You Won't Find a Single Italian Spot on the List

Grab your napkins, maybe some crushed red pepper, and a little extra Parmesan, because it's time to celebrate the 50 best pizza places in Europe, excluding Italy. Yes, you read that correctly. 50 Top Pizza's list of the best pizzerias in Europe doesn't include a single mention of Italy. But before you spiral into a mozzarella-filled rage, know that this is on purpose, as the European nation and capital of all things pizza has its own dedicated list, simply because Italian pizzerias would blow everyone else out of the water. So really, think of this list as the "50 best pizza places in Europe outside of Italy list," instead. Now that we've got that out of the way, it's time to celebrate the other spots making a splash with their delicious pies. According to the experts behind the rankings, this year's top pizza spot on the continent is Napoli on the Road, located in the United Kingdom. "Napoli on the Road is much more than just a pizzeria: it is the symbol of a new era of Neapolitan pizza in the United Kingdom," the pizza rankings explained. "Led by the talented Michele Pascarella, awarded in 2023 as the best pizza maker in Europe, this project has revolutionized the concept of contemporary pizzeria. With locations in Chiswick and Richmond, every detail is designed to offer a dynamic and ever-evolving gastronomic experience: the menu changes every three months, following seasonality and the excellence of selected ingredients." It also noted that the shop's dough is a highlight as it offers "bold yet balanced combinations." Joining Napoli on the Road at the top of the list is Baldoria in Madrid, which won accolades for its "efficient and friendly" staff and inventive pies like the Bufala Fest, which comes topped with roasted San Marzano tomato sauce, confit cherry tomatoes, Parmesan chips, and basil pesto. Third place is a tie between Via Toledo in Vienna, Austria, and Sartoria Panatieri in Barcelona. Via Toledo took a top spot thanks to its "excellent fresh ingredients from Italy." The rankings added that in some pizzas, you will also "find a bit of the flavors of Puglia, the region of origin of Francesco and Chiara, the founders, which brings a nice element of creativity." As for Sartoria Panatieri, it won high praise thanks to not just its pies but also its fantastic selection of appetizers, wide selection of craft beers, and delicious desserts. "The desserts, obviously artisanal, are almost like grandmother's treats, and a must-try is the blueberry and mascarpone tart," the rankings stated. 50 Top Pizza explained that the top 20 pizza places in Europe are automatically put in the 100 Best Pizzerias in the World list, joining others from Asia-Pacific, the U.S., Latin America, and, of course, Italy. The final awards take place on Sept. 8 and will surely be the most delicious ceremony imaginable. See the full list of European winners at

Pizza Studio Tamaki Review: Tokyo's cult-favourite pizzeria opens in Singapore on June 10

It's days before the opening of Pizza Studio Tamaki (PST), and we're sitting in its first Singapore outlet in Tanjong Pagar. The Tokyo-based pizzeria takes over the spot that used to house cocktail bar Tippling Club, and apart from doing away with the hanging glass bottle display that used to dangle across the bar counter, all other fixtures remain pretty much the same. The first thing we hear is that since PST Singapore opened reservations to the public recently, it's already seen a jaw-dropping 2,000 tables booked, even before the official launch on June 10. We do our homework before visiting, and that's how we find out about the brand's seriously studded rep – it's been given stamps of approval by Michelin, 50 Top Pizza, and has even hosted the likes of Jeff Bezos and Justin Bieber when they visited Japan. So, will these famed Tokyo-Neapolitan slices live up to the hype? First, a glance at the menu. There are around 12 pizzas categorised as either tomato or cheese-based, over 10 appetisers, desserts, coffee, and several cocktails crafted by Bar on 38 – another famous pizza joint in Mandarin Oriental Tokyo. While it's not master pizzaiolo Tsubasa Tamaki who'll be firing up slices over at the Singapore branch, he's left the job to his trusted protégé, Ryosuke Tanahara, who's trained under him for close to three years, and can replicate his elusive dough recipe to a tee. Speaking of dough, PST employs a highly specific formula developed by Tamaki himself, using a proprietary blend of Canadian and American wheat flour milled in Japan. The dough is lightly fermented for 30 hours – unlike the 48-to-72-hour proofing periods commonly seen in other Italian restaurants – so it achieves a light, fluffy texture which pulls apart almost like mochi. We sink our teeth into the Tamaki pizza ($29), a 12-inch classic topped with Datterini tomatoes, fresh smoked mozzarella, pecorino romano, and fresh basil. Despite being the most simply constructed of the pizzas we'll be trying, it's easily our favourite. The waiter gives us a much-needed tip: gently press down on the cherry tomatoes before eating. Doing so releases a fresh, fragrant waft of sweetness that greatly adds to the experience. But what's arguably better is the fine dusting of salt that we can distinctly taste on the crust. It turns out that the base of the woodfire oven is lightly seasoned with Okinawan salt for an added layer of umami. And if you prefer less char or salt on your pizzas, customisations are more than welcome. The Bismarck ($32) that arrives soon after falls a tad short of expectations, with the Hinata egg cracked in the middle reaching us slightly underdone, but the spicy Arrabbiata ($30) quickly makes up for it. It's got the same Datterini tomatoes, pork nduja, Aomori garlic, and calabria (chilli flakes) that are slow-dried in-house. Being the spice-lovers that we are, we're glad to say this packs a punch. The 5 Formaggi ($34) is equally well done, with a medley of smoked mozzarella, gorgonzola, taleggio, grana padano and mascarpone. The best part, though, is that the acacia honey, which at this point should be known as a mandatory pairing with cheese pizza, comes at no extra charge. We also try several appetisers, from caramelised pumpkins with a balsamic reduction ($16) to Angus beef and pork meatballs in tomato sauce ($18) – all of which are decent but otherwise unmemorable. If you find yourself in the good graces of the reservation system and manage to snag a table, we'd say splash out on the pizzas instead. After all, there are 12 on the menu to sample, with nothing crossing the $40 mark.

The prizes were awarded last night at a ceremony in Madrid, with pizzerias from across Europe celebrated. Little Pyg was the only Irish spot named on the list. This year's win for best pizzeria in Ireland is its third in a row. Launched in Italy in 2017, the 50 Top Pizza Awards are curated by food critics Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro and Albert Sapere and are voted on by 2,000 anonymous inspectors that travel across Europe and review pizzerias. Speaking from Madrid, owner Paul McGlade Jnr shared his pride in the team, saying: "We're very proud of Federico, who is regarded as one of the best pizzaiolos in the world and our team at Little Pyg, it's a great award for their hard work and dedication." Little Pyg's head chef Federico Rapali also reacted to the win: "I'm incredibly proud to share that we have been named Best Pizzeria in Ireland for the third year in a row as well as ranking #16 in Europe at the 2025 Top Pizza Awards. This recognition means everything. It is a reflection of relentless passion, long hours and the belief that great pizza can bring people together. "To my amazing team and our loyal guests, thank you for making this journey possible. What started as a dream has grown into something far greater than I ever imagined. Here's to tradition, innovation and never settling for anything less than excellence."

The best pizzerias in Europe have been crowned for 2025

We know a thing or two about good pizza at Time Out. In March, we released our global guide to the world's best pizzas, where you'll find everything from a classic Neapolitan margherita in Naples to porteño-style pies in Buenos Aires. But we're not the only ones chewing and cheese-pulling away to determine the planet's tastiest pies. 50 Top Pizza is an influential industry guide that produces several annual pizzeria rankings – and they've just dropped their latest list of the greatest pizzerias in Europe. Number one on the list for 2025 is Napoli on the Road, a London-based pizzeria with branches in Chiswick and Richmond. Renowned Tokyo pizzeria Pizza Studio Tamaki to open in Singapore this June

Tokyo is loved for many things, but many don't know that it's got a bangin' pizza scene as well. Yes, the metropolitan city has a whopping six pizzerias listed on the 50 Top Pizza Asia-Pacific 2025 ranking. Some award-winning joints include The Pizza Bar On 38th, Pizza Strada, and a crowd favourite – Pizza Studio Tamaki (PST). Come this June, you'll get a chance to taste PST's highly raved slices, as the brand will be debuting its very first outlet in Singapore. So what makes Pizza Studio Tamaki special? Well, besides its billionaire-backed, celebrity-endorsed status – having hosted the likes of Jeff Bezos, Justin Bieber, and many others – it's also been given the stamp of approval by trusted guides like Michelin and 50 Top Pizza. View this post on Instagram A post shared by PizzaStudioTamaki (@pizzastudiotamaki) But the ultimate proof is in its dough, made of a blend of Japanese and American flour and fermented for 30 hours, resulting in a puffy crust and wafer-thin centre characteristic of Napoli-style pizza. PST has been headed by Tsubasa Tamaki since its early days in Roppongi in 2017. Its Singapore outlet in Tanjong Pagar will see Tamaki's protégé, Ryosuke Tanahara, holding the fort. The young pizzaiolo trained under Tamaki for almost three years. Fun fact: another student of Tamaki's is Eddie Murakami, who now runs Beyond the Dough in Arab Street. This will be PST's fifth outlet – it currently has three across Japan and one in Bangkok which opened recently, all of which see reservation lists that stretch over weeks. Its Singapore store is slated to open on June 10, and reservations will be made available at a later date. In the meantime, watch this space for updates on its official menu and prices, and follow its Instagram page here.
