‘Do I Still Have It?' Kajol On Thoughts About Acting After Having Daughter Nysa
Last Updated:
Kajol opened up about the emotional challenges and doubts she faced returning to acting in Fanaa after Nysa's birth.
Stepping back into the spotlight after becoming a mother is never easy, even for a celebrated star like Kajol. The actor recently spoke about the emotional challenges she faced when she returned to acting following the birth of her daughter, Nysa. In an honest conversation, she recalled her mix of doubts and nerves before starting work on Fanaa.
Kajol is now busy promoting her latest project, Maa, a mythological horror film directed by Vishal Furia. Presented by Jio Studios in collaboration with Devgn Films, the film is produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, and Kumar Mangat Pathak. Maa tells the chilling story of a mother who must confront dark, supernatural forces to save her daughter from an ancient curse tied to a mysterious village. The film features an ensemble cast, including Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, Gopal Singh, Jitin Gulati, Kherin Sharma, Surjyasikha Das, Yaaneea Bharadwaj and Roopkatha Chakraborty and is set to hit theatres on June 27.
In an interview with Zoom, Kajol reflected on her return to the sets after her maternity break.
'I remember when I came back, I did Fanaa after Nysa was born," she said. 'It had been three and a half years since I stood in front of the camera. I kept thinking — 'Do I still have it?' 'Will I be okay in front of the camera?' 'Will I be different?'"
Fortunately, those fears quickly faded. By the end of the first day, Kajol found herself at ease once again.
'The day got over and I realised, 'No, it's fine.' I've been doing this day in and day out…with my children, with everybody. And it is okay. It is a part of you that you will never get tired of or feel like you're new to," she shared.
Fanaa, featuring Aamir Khan alongside Kajol, marked her remarkable return to the big screen. The film achieved both commercial success and critical acclaim, earning Kajol the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in 2006 and further strengthening her status as one of Indian cinema's most celebrated talents.
Directed by Kunal Kohli and produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra, this romantic thriller unfolds across Delhi and Kashmir. It tells the story of Zooni, a blind Kashmiri woman who falls for her charming tour guide, Rehan—unaware that he carries a dark and dangerous secret.
