Aussie superstar pays tribute to family after winning historic major
Lee had her four-shot overnight lead slashed in half early in the final round before hanging on, then surging gamely for a three-shot triumph in more extremely trying conditions at PGA Frisco's windswept Fields Ranch East course.
The 29-year-old bogeyed three of the first six holes in an understandably anxious start before steadying to close with a sufficiently sound two-over-par 74 on championship Sunday (Monday AEST).
'Just stick to my game plan. It's a battle against myself pretty much, especially with how tough the conditions were this whole week,' Lee said of her final-round approach.
'Not just today. It's just amplified today because it's a major Sunday, but yeah, just be patient, take every shot as it comes.
'I pretty much I saw every single leaderboard and I knew exactly where I was, pretty much all of today, so I checked the scores and then I just came back to each shot and tried to execute it the best that I could, so I played within myself today.'

Lee finished with a 72-hole four-under 284 total to deny fast-finishing American Auston Kim (68) and Thai Chanetee Wannasaen (68) improbable comeback victories at the third women's major of the year.
In adding to her 2021 Evian Championship triumph and 2022 US Open success, Lee completed the third leg of women's golf's fabled grand slam to edge ever closer to a place in the sport's Hall of Fame.
The British Open and Chevron Championship are the only two majors to elude Lee.
Just as significantly, Lee joined legends — and fellow females — Karrie Webb and Jan Stephenson as only the third Australian golfer in history to win three different major championships.
With three majors, Lee also surpassed the great Greg Norman and David Graham on Australia's all-time majors winning list.
Lee now only trails seven-times major champion Webb and five-times British Open winner Thomson.
Sunday's victory also snapped a 19-month winless run, the longest drought of her decorated career, and secured Australian women's sport's highest earner another monster cheque of $US1.8 million ($A2.8 million).
Perhaps most gratifying of all, the Perth prodigy also buried the demons from last year's spectacular final-round crash at the US Open.

Lee opened up a three-stroke back-nine lead only to collapse down the stretch to finish tied for ninth at Lancaster Country Club.
The sister of PGA Tour star Min Woo Lee paid a heartfelt tribute to her family after pocketing the monster winning and enhancing her status as Australian sport's highest-earning women's athlete.
'At this point in your career, I mean, my parents have sacrificed so much for me to be here,' Lee said with her mother and career-long coach greenside.
'I can't say more things than I've already. It's just extra special that I could win in front of them and obviously wherever Min is, he's supporting me out there.
'He's a social media nut so he's all on top of that, so it is really cool.
'And obviously my dad's back in Aus — I don't know what time it is there — but he's tuning in and they've always got my back, so it's really nice and it's great support and unconditional.'

A-League: Brisbane Roar's Lucas Herrington to join Colorado
Don't miss out on the headlines from Football. Followed categories will be added to My News. Australian under-20 international defender Lucas Herrington has secured a move to US Major Soccer League club Colorado. The 18-year-old Brisbane centre-back will link with the Rapids in January, with the Roar having secured an undisclosed club record transfer fee for his services. 'We couldn't be prouder of Lucas and look forward to seeing what he achieves in the MLS,' Roar coach Michael Valkanis said. 'For now, our focus is on hitting the ground running for the 25-26 season, and he will play a big part in that until his departure in January.' Herrington – who has signed a four-year deal with the Rapids – has been part of the Roar system since 2019 and last season made his A-League debut for the club. 'I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club,' the year 12 schoolboy said. 'To have come through the academy from under-13s makes it even more special. 'I have met some amazing people. I am very proud to have represented the club I have been supporting since I was a kid.' Colorado sporting director Fran Taylor said the Rapids were 'excited' to give Herrington the chance to be part of an environment where he could 'continue to grow and develop'. 'Lucas is a talented young centre-back with great size, athleticism, and composure beyond his years,' Taylor said. 'He's already shown he can compete at the senior level.' Family of viral Australian punter Archie Wilson staying grounded after emotional press conference
The family of Australian teenager Archie Wilson, who is pursuing a career in American college football, says they are staying grounded after the world fell in love with their son and brother on Wednesday. The 19-year-old former Aussie Rules junior broke down during his first press conference at the University of Nebraska as he spoke of missing his family back home. 'That part's hard. I mean... I'm sorry,' Wilson said as he paused his press conference. 'I love them a lot. I got two little brothers, and my mum and dad. That's the tough part about being here. I love them a lot and I miss them.' Wilson won America and people around the globe over with his raw emotion as he continued through tears in front of the media pack. Speaking to Sunrise on Thursday morning, Wilson's family said Archie was OK despite the tears. 'We're going to see him in 10 days,' his mum, Jessica, said. 'I spoke to him straight away and he was absolutely fine. 'He got emotional, it was his birthday yesterday/today American time, so I think the emotion of not having us there on his first birthday away just got to him at that one point.' Archie's father, Lee, said the family is staying grounded amid the international headlines created by yesterday's presser. 'We're really trying not to get too far ahead of it because there's an enormity of a task at hand he's got to go out and do, and we're trying to just keep the lid on all of it,' Lee said, with their other two sons by their side. 'But it seems to have blown up and got away from everyone. 'It's a bit of a new world for us, we're not those sort of people. 'We're just trying to keep grounded and just keep him focused on his practice and what he's got to do, and go out and do what he's got to do for the team in a few weeks' time.' Jessica added: 'Extremely proud, it's a massive thing that he's doing, moving away, basically the other side of the world at such a young age. 'Extremely proud of the way he's handled himself and the way he's taken on the challenge and training extremely hard to be the best at what he's chosen to do. 'He's just a normal boy who's, like everyone, got emotions.' 'And he's good at kicking a ball,' Lee interjected with to finish. At the press conference yesterday, the teenager said other than missing his family, the transition hadn't been too bad. 'They know this is what's best for me,' he said. 'It's good I can still talk to them plenty over the phone. They're coming here to see the first few games, so I'm looking forward to that.' Wilson was plucked out of Prokick Australia after special teams coordinator Mike Ekeler sought a similar skillset to the Aussie punters who played under him at the University of Tennessee.

‘I miss them': Aussie NFL hopeful breaks down when talking about home
Australian teenager Archie Wilson has gone viral after he broke down in tears during a college football press conference while talking about missing home. The NFL hopeful moved to America to play for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, after auditioning in front of coach Mike Ekeler live on FaceTime, but homesickness has taken its toll on the Melburnian since moving to the United States in June. 'I love them a lot. I've got two little brothers and a mum and dad, and that's the tough part about being here,' Wilson said when asked about his family. 'I love them a lot and I miss them, but they know this is what's best for me, and it's good, I can still talk to them plenty over the phone, and they're coming here to see the first few games, so I'm looking forward to that.' Wilson has since made appearances on Good Morning America and the Today show in the US after the moment resonated with many around the world. His parents, Lee and Jess, and brothers Lewis and Oscar spoke on the Australian Today show on Thursday morning and said the family would be reunited in 11 days when they head over for the start of the college football season. 'There was a lot of tears yesterday,' Jess said. 'It's a bit crazy, but I spoke to him pretty much as soon as I woke up yesterday morning. He was absolutely fine, you can see at the end of the video he walks off, he's fine, he just broke down in those few moments.
