Alleged Oakland hit-and-run driver gets out to inspect own vehicle, then leaves, victim says
OAKLAND, Calif. - An East Oakland woman injured in a hit-and-run crash hopes that video captured by witnesses will help identify the suspect.
What they're saying
Sara, who wished to withhold her last name for fear of retaliation, said she shared her story and the video to prevent the driver from harming someone else.
The hit-and-run crash happened on Friday and the victim said she is now afraid to drive.
Neighbors said drivers running red lights in broad daylight is a common sight on busy Macarthur Boulevard at 106th Avenue, where the crash occurred.
"People don't abide by the rules," said Tamika Stallings, who lives in the area. "It's sad, just being a person living in Oakland. You have to be cautious of your every movement."
Sara is struggling to recover from injuries to her leg and back.
"It destroys me. It destroys my hope. If he's still out there, it could be someone else. I got lucky enough to survive this incident," she said.
She recalled that she was driving to run errands when a speeding driver cut in front of several cars by using the left turn lane then ran a red light and crashed into her car.
The crash totaled her car.
She shared with KTVU the video taken by a witness of the suspected hit-and-run driver.
Dig deeper
The victim showed the man walking around the front of a black Lexus that he was driving. He appeared to check if there was damage his car before getting back in it and driving off.
Residents in the area said hit-and-run crashes and reckless driving are common in this area.
"It happens out here. There's no code of integrity out here. Everyone is all for themself," one neighbor said.
Sara hopes the video will help police identify and arrest the suspect. She's grateful that five bystanders came to her aide.
"There was a lady specifically praying for me, holding my hand. There was a man working for PG&E who came over and helped me take deep breaths since I'm asthmatic," she said.
Sara also thanked the people who helped her.
She wanted the suspect to apologize not to her, but the people who witnessed what happened.
"Everyone who was there, I can remember and see, visually see, the stress and the shock," said Sara.
Police have not made an arrest.
The victim said doctors told her that it will take about three months to recover from her physical injuries, but she's still struggling mentally about the ordeal.

Manhunt Underway for Dad of 3 Missing Daughters Found Dead
Originally appeared on E! Online A tragedy is unfolding in Washington State. Days after the bodies of Travis Decker's three daughters Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5, were discovered in Chelan County near his truck, police are searching for the 32-year-old. "A Chelan County deputy located Decker's vehicle near the Rock Island Campground accessed by Icicle Road. The vehicle was unoccupied," Wenatchee police said in a June 3 statement. "Additional law enforcement officers responded and searched the immediate area. During the search, the bodies of the three missing girls were discovered." "Decker is currently wanted for 3 counts of Murder 1st degree and Kidnapping 1st degree," the statement continued. "Decker is a former Military with extensive training. It is unknown whether Decker is currently armed, but he may pose a significant risk, if approached." The girls' mother had filed a civil complaint May 30, saying her daughters had not returned after a planned visitation with their father, the Wenatchee Police Department said. More from E! Wenatchee police said in their statement that the Washington State Patrol was contacted the day the girls were reported missing to request an AMBER Alert. "However," the police added, "it did not meet the required criteria." The department said its detectives contacted WSP again May 31 with additional information and an Endangered Missing Person Alert was issued. "In a situation where a custodial parent is late returning children to another parent," a Washington State Patrol spokesperson told NBC News, "law enforcement does not automatically have clear indication that the children are in danger." He said that on May 31, the state patrol issued an endangered missing person alert, meant for people who are unable to "assist in their own recovery" and that it "accomplished much the same public notification/outreach as an AMBER alert would have." As the search for Decker continues, police are asking for help. "Any member of the public who believes they may have seen Decker since Friday May 30th, and/or know his current whereabouts are asked to call 911 immediately," the authorities emphasized. "Due to safety concerns, do not attempt to contact or approach Decker." (E! and NBC News are both part of the NBCUniversal family.) For the latest breaking news updates, click here to download the E! Safety tips for lithium-ion batteries after Pittsfield fire
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A large fire was put out at a homeless shelter in Pittsfield Wednesday night. Pittsfield police warn residents of retired officer impersonation scheme The Pittsfield Fire Department states that at 7:59 p.m. on Wednesday, crews were sent to 360 West Housatonic Street, Soldier On, for a reported building fire. When crews arrived, a large, open-air shed was fully on fire. The fire was put out within 30 minutes. The main Soldier On building nearby was damaged on the roof and some of the windows. The cause of the fire was determined to be a lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery-powered E-Bike. The bike was found charging when it started a 'thermal runaway' of one or more Li-ion fuel cells. The fire then spread to the entire shed. No injuries were reported. Lithium-ion batteries can be found in many household items such as cell phones, laptops and tablets, watches, e-bikes, vape devices, electric vehicles, power tools, and many children's toys. These types of batteries are known for melting, catching fire, and even exploding sometimes. Lithium-ion batteries power everything from smartphones and laptops to scooters and electric vehicles, and they pack a lot of power into a small device. These products should be unplugged after they are finished charging to prevent a fire or explosion. To properly dispose of lithium-ion batteries, they can be brought to a household hazardous waste collection site or a battery recycling center such as Staples, Home Depot, and Lowe's. To find a location near you, visit Purchase and use devices that are listed by a qualified testing laboratory, such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Always follow the manufacturer's instructions Only use the battery and charging cord that is designed for the device Do not charge a device under your pillow, on your bed, or a couch Plug the charger directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension cord Do not keep charging the device or device battery after it is fully charged Keep batteries at room temperature when possible Do not charge them at temperatures below 32°F (0°C) or above 105°F (40°C). Do not leave them in a hot car, in direct sunlight, or freezing temperatures Store batteries away from anything that can catch fire Store scooters and e-bikes outdoors if possible. DDG Accuses Ex Halle Bailey of Being "Psychological Risk" to Son Halo
Originally appeared on E! Online Content warning: This article contains allegations of self-harm and threats of suicide. Halle Bailey is facing serious allegations from her ex DDG amid the custody battle over their son Halo. In an emergency motion filed by DDG on June 4, the rapper asked the court to deny Halle's recent request to take their 17-month-old to Italy for work, accusing that the Little Mermaid star of being "an imminent emotional and psychological risk" to herself and their child. DDG (real name Daryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.) alleged in court documents obtained by E! News that Halle "routinely used emotional coercion and manipulation to exert her control over me, often threatening me by using self-harm or ending her life" throughout their "on again/off again" relationship of almost three years. In one alleged instance during Halle's pregnancy in 2023, DDG said she "threatened me by demanding that we reconcile, or she would go through with the abortion." DDG said the actress allegedly "threatened to end her life using my legally owned firearm" in another incident that same year, accusing Halle of grabbing the weapon and leaving their home without telling anyone her whereabouts. "Given these threats to self-harm," DDG wrote in his filing, "I believe the Petitioner is a threat to our son's safety such that she should not be allowed to take Halo out of the country to Italy for a period of two months." He is requesting that the court grant him sole legal and physical custody of Halo, or impose an alternative visitation plan where he and Halle trade off two-day and five-day blocks. DDG's filing comes weeks after Halle filed to obtain sole legal and physical custody of Halo, alleging that DDG attacked her during a co-parenting handoff in January. She was granted a temporary restraining order against DDG, who has denied the abuse allegations. E! News has reached out to Halle's attorney about DDG's allegations but hasn't heard back. In a court response to DDG's filing obtained by TMZ, Halle accused DDG of being uncooperative in negotiations, alleging that he waited until her temporary restraining order was expired to file for custody of Halo.
