Ralph Fiennes cast as President Snow in Hunger Games prequel
Ralph Fiennes has been cast as President Coriolanus Snow in 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping'.
In the upcoming prequel, based on the books by Suzanne Collins, the 62-year-old actor will play the villainous character, previously portrayed by Donald Sutherland in the original series and Tom Blyth in the 2023 film 'The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes'.
Producer Nina Jacobson said in a statement: 'We wanted to honour Donald Sutherland by having one of this generation's greatest actors play President Snow 24 years before Katniss Everdeen entered the arena.
'Working with Ralph has been on my bucket list since he traumatised me for life in 'Schindler's List'. It's genuinely a thrill to welcome him to the Hunger Games.'
Recently, Maya Hawke recently joined the cast as Wiress, the former 'Hunger Games' champion who now serves as a mentor for those in District 12.
News of Maya's casting came weeks after it was confirmed Mckenna Grace, 18, had landed the highly-sought after role of District 12 Tribute Maysilee Donner.
Joseph Zada will lead the cast as Haymitch Abernathy, with Whitney Peak set to portray his girlfriend, Lenore Dove Baird. In addition, Jesse Plemons has been cast as Plutarch Heavensbee, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee.
'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' will be an adaptation of Collins' 2025 novel of the same name, and is the second instalment in the writer's 'Hunger Games' prequel trilogy.
The story is set in the world of Panem 24 years before the first 'Hunger Games' book, and follows Haymitch Abernathy, who is selected as a tribute for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' is to be directed by Francis Lawrence, who will be working from a screen adaptation written by Billy Ray.

Donald Sutherland wore gas mask to cast party
Donald Sutherland attended a Pride + Prejudice cast party in a gas mask. The late screen legend - who died a year ago aged 88 - had a clause in his contract that nobody be allowed to smoke cigarettes anywhere near him but he relaxed his rule to hang out with the rest of the stars on the 2005 period drama by taking his own precautions. Discussing her favourite memory from making the film, Keira Knightley told Vanity Fair: "There was the party that Donald Sutherland came to. "You weren't allowed to smoke. He had it in his contract that nobody on the set was allowed to smoke anywhere near, and you couldn't smell of smoke. "But of course everyone smoked back then. And everybody would be smoking, and then you'd be sort of spraying yourself. "But the party he came to, he came in a gas mask. And he was like, 'I want you to all be able to smoke. And I wanted to come to the party.' " Donald also amused the cast when he suddenly remembered a luxury car he'd forgotten he had owned for years and had it delivered to the set. Rosamund Pike said: "He was amazing. He also remembered halfway through shooting that he had a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow that he'd bought while making Don't Look Now or something and completely forgotten about. [He] remembered it was garaged somewhere up near Manchester and had it delivered to set." The two actresses admitted very few co-stars have matched the entertainment they got from Donald. Keira said: "I have to say, most actors have been a disappointment since then." Rosamund agreed: "Donald was pretty legendary. We did have dinners with him sometimes, and he told us some pretty wild stories which cannot be shared." Keira was nominated for an Oscar for her work on Pride + Prejudice, which she found "confusing" because she felt she was viewed as a "terrible actress" because of her role in Pirates of the Caribbean. She reflected: "It was pretty big for my career. If people will come up to me, it'll be about that one. "Pirates of the Caribbean had already come out, but I think in the public consciousness, I was seen as a terrible actress. "But I had this phenomenally big success with Pirates. And I think this was the first one that was a phenomenally big success, but was also critically acclaimed. "So I remember it coming out maybe the same year, maybe around the same time as Pirates 2. And I got the worst reviews ever for that, and then also being nominated for an Oscar at the same time—it was, in my 21-year-old head, quite confusing."

Kieran Culkin joining cast of latest ‘Hunger Games' film
Kieran Culkin is joining the cast of the latest 'Hunger Games' film. The actor, 41, has enjoyed a resurgence in fame thanks to his roles in 'Succession' and 'A Real Pain', and is now stepping into the glittering shoes of Caesar Flickerman in the upcoming prequel movie 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping'. Its producer Nina Jacobson was quoted by Variety saying: 'Kieran's magnetism, wit, and unpredictability make him a perfect fit for Caesar Flickerman. 'A host like Caesar transforms brutality into entertainment, and an actor as layered as Kieran makes sure we don't look away.' Kieran takes over the role made famous by Stanley Tucci in the original four-film franchise. Sunrise on the Reaping', based on Suzanne Collins' latest novel, takes place 24 years before the events of the first film and centres on a young Haymitch Abernathy – played in the new adaptation by Joseph Zada – during the 50th Hunger Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell. The film is slated for release on 20 November 2026. Its cast also includes Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Maya Hawke as Wiress, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee, Lili Taylor as Mags, Ben Wang as Wyatt, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket and Ralph Fiennes as President Snow. Molly McCann will portray Louella, with Iona Bell as her Capitol-assigned lookalike, Lou Lou. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erin Westerman was also quoted Variety saying: 'Kieran's scene-stealing presence and undeniable charm are perfect for Caesar Flickerman, the sickeningly watchable host of Panem's darkest spectacle. Stanley Tucci made Caesar unforgettable – and now Kieran will make the role entirely his own.' Francis Lawrence returns to direct the film, having helmed every entry in the franchise since 2012's 'Catching Fire'. The screenplay has been adapted by Billy Ray. Jacobson and Brad Simpson will produce under the Color Force banner, with Cameron MacConomy serving as executive producer. Culkin's casting comes during a high point in his career. He won the best supporting actor Oscar earlier this year for his performance in 'A Real Pain', opposite Jesse Eisenberg, and previously took home the lead actor in a drama Emmy for his role as Roman Roy in HBO's 'Succession'. He is currently starring in a sold-out Broadway run of 'Glengarry Glen Ross' alongside Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr. The original 'Hunger Games' films have grossed more than $3.3 billion worldwide.
