Zaxby's continues western expansion with new location opening this week
It is part of Zaxby's plan to open dozens of locations across the nation this year, and it's the second recent Zaxby's opening in the Western United States, following the chain's first Las Vegas location that started serving in April.
The location is set to open in the Phoenix area on Wednesday, Aug. 13. At a later Aug. 19 celebration, the store is promising free menu items for six months to the first 100 guests, Zaxby's said in a news release.
Known for its chicken tenders and signature sauce, Zaxby's has a heavy presence across the Southeast in states like Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi, among others. But the chain has eyes on expansion, aiming to open its 1,000th new location in 2025, including its first restaurants in Nevada and Arizona.

The new location spans 3,000 square feet and has 56 seats for dine-in guests, in addition to a dual drive-thru and curbside pickup door for faster service, the company said.
Sharlene Smith, Chief Operating Officer at Zaxby's, thanked the owners of the latest location in the press release.
"Thanks to the dedication of our franchise partners, Brian and Jessica Nelson, we're accelerating our growth out West and continuing to introduce the Zaxby's famous Fingerz and signature sauces to new fans across the country,' Smith said.

Walmart gives employees extra savings on groceries with expanded discount
Walmart has expanded its discount program for employees, offering employees discounts on all groceries year-round versus discounts on specific items during the holiday season. In a memo the company sent out to associates on Aug. 13, the company said the change means employees get 10% off all food categories — including dairy, frozen, dry grocery, meat and seafood — as well as general merchandise and fashion. 'With this update, the associate discount now covers 95% of regularly priced items across the store,' the company said in the memo obtained by USA TODAY via email. Walmart's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Kieran Shanahan said in a video shared to LinkedIn that the company has listened to employees. 'We know the impact this discount has for so many associates and their families,' he said. 'You shared your thoughts and we've listened … Please keep the feedback coming on how we can make the benefits we offer even better.' Expanding the discount was one of their most requested changes, the company said in the memo. What's different about this expansion? Walmart employees receive Walmart Discount Cards after their first 90 days with the company, and if individuals work for the company for more than 20 years, they get an indefinite discount, the company said in the memo. According to the company, the discount card was first launched more than 50 years ago. The discount previously included a 10% discount on all fresh produce, most general merchandise, and a discount on items during the holiday season. Now, they'll pay lower prices for nearly all food sold at Walmart stores, including milk, bread, and meat, the company told USA TODAY on Aug. 14. The company also says the discount goes into effect immediately. More retail news: Amazon Prime members can now get same-day groceries for free. Here's how.
