BRS MLC K Kavitha demands implementation of Backward Class reservation bill in Telangana
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 14 (ANI): Bharath Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha on Saturday said that Telangana is looking forward towards the implementation of the Backward Class reservation bill, but expressed her disappointment as it is 'stuck' at the president level.
She said whenever the bill is passed, the BRS hopes that the local body elections in the state will be conducted and also demanded the state government implement the bill; otherwise, the party won't allow the local body elections in the state.
'Telangana state has been looking forward to the implementation of the Backward Classes reservation bill. We all fought very hard for it... Unfortunately, it is stuck at the President's level. Whenever it is passed, we hope the local body elections will be conducted... We demand from the government that unless the bill is implemented, we will not let local body elections happen in the state', K Kavitha told ANI.
Meanwhile, following the Union Government's caste enumeration decision, the Karnataka government has decided to conduct a second socio-economic survey in the state.
On Friday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the initiation of a new socio-educational survey to be completed within 90 days. He said that as per the law, it was necessary to conduct a fresh survey.
CM Siddaramaiah said, 'The last socio-educational survey was conducted a decade ago during my previous tenure (2013-2018), but its recommendations were not implemented due to political changes. Now, ten years have passed since the Kantharaju report (2015), and as per law, particularly Section 11(1) of the Backward Classes Amendment Act and Articles 14, 15, and 16 of the Constitution, it is necessary to conduct a fresh survey. The Karnataka Cabinet has unanimously decided to initiate a new socio-educational survey, to be completed within 90 days.'
He further said that the focus was on updating data to ensure fair representation.
'There has been no discussion on removing any community; rather, we are focusing on updated data to ensure fair representation. Based on the earlier Kantharaju report, 8 per cent reservation for the Muslim community will be retained while we move forward with updated insights,' he further said. (ANI)

HYDERABAD Stating that the Godavari-Banakacherla Link Project, proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government, would be detrimental to Telangana's water interests, senior BRS leader and former Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao urged Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy to impress upon Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil to immediately convene an Apex Council meeting to discuss the alleged violation of the Reorganisation Act 2014. In a letter to Mr. Reddy on Sunday, Mr. Rao urged government to immediately convene an all-party meeting, besides holding a special session of the State Assembly to arrive at a policy decision on the Banakacherla project. Pointing out that Telangana will get an additional 157.5 tmc ft of Krishna water as its rightful share, if 80 tmc ft is moved to the Krishna Delta through Polavaram project, he said that Telangana will have the flexibility to use this water for other projects that do not have proper water allocations, such as SLBC, Kalvakurthi, Nettempadu, Palamuru-Ranga Reddy and Dindi. 'Telangana should seek this additional share of 157.5 tmc ft before the Brijesh Tribunal, discuss with legal experts, and take appropriate action. Engineering experts suggest that Telangana may positively consider the Godavari-Banakacherla link if AP agrees to these rights,' he said. Meanwhile, he lauded Mr. Reddy's recent letter to Mr. Patil, opposing the project, and urged the State government to prioritise TG interests over politics and assured full support in protecting its water rights.

Ponguleti for humanitarian approach towards farmers' problems
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has directed officials to resolve the grievances submitted by farmers during Revenue Sadassus in a time-bound manner. The Revenue Department has been conducting meetings with stakeholders in all mandals except Hyderabad since June 3, with 7,578 villages in 561 mandals covered till date. The department has so far received 4.61 lakh applications in the meetings that will continue till June 20. The Minister wanted the officials to thoroughly examine the grievances and resolve the problems with a humanitarian approach. Mr. Srinivas Reddy reviewed the progress of meetings with senior officials on Sunday, and directed them to ensure government's intention of resolving land issues, pending for decades, came true. The 10-year rule of BRS Government put farmers to severe hardships, and the introduction of the Dharani portal has been a bane for them, he said. The Minister said that he was personally present in the meetings conducted in 50 villages and was moved by the plight of farmers during the BRS tenure. Prompted by their hardships, the present government had enacted the Telangana Bhu Bharati (Record of Rights) Act, and it was the responsibility of the officials concerned to ensure effective implementation of the legislation at the field level. Mr. Srinivas Reddy said that land survey in five model villages for which records did not exist since Independence was progressing briskly. The survey was launched in five of the 413 villages, for which land records did not exist, on a pilot basis. Accordingly, mapping of 337 acres of 422 acres in Salarnagar of Gandeed mandal of Mahbubnagar district, 269 acres out of 626 acres in Kommanapally village of Bhirpur mandal of Jagtial district, 445 acres (845 acres) of Mulugumada of Errupalem mandal of Khammam district, 232 acres (502 acres) of Nuguru in Venkatapuram mandal of Mulugu district, and 308 acres (593 acres) in Shahidnagar of Vatpalli mandal of Sangareddy district had been completed so far. In all, mapping and survey of 1,591 acres of the 2,988 acres in the five pilot villages had been completed and officials were directed to complete the survey within 10 days.

Ambedkar row: State SC panel issues notice to Lalu
Patna: Bihar State Commission for Scheduled Castes has issued a notice to RJD chief Lalu Prasad , demanding a response within 15 days as to why a case under the SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act should not be filed against him for allegedly disrespecting a photograph of Dr B R Ambedkar. The incident occurred during Lalu's birthday celebration on June 11. The letter, signed by commission vice-president Devendra Kumar on June 13, read, "You (Lalu) have insulted the photo of Constitution maker Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on your birthday, which is being continuously seen on social media. The insult of Baba Saheb has hurt the honour of not only one class but the entire country. Therefore, give an explanation within 15 days and tell why a case should not be registered against you under the Scheduled Castes, Tribes Atrocities Act. " The controversy arose from a viral video showing an RJD worker placing Ambedkar's picture as a gift on a table near Lalu's feet. Lalu neither acknowledged nor touched the photograph, nor made any comment. The BJP has strongly criticised the incident.
