Indianapolis weekend events: Furniture sale, Mutt Strut, MC Lyte and more
If you're looking for furniture and home goods but don't want to break the bank, check out Diversion's warehouse sale this weekend.
Why it matters: You'll be supporting a good cause.
How it works: Diversion is a nonprofit that collects high-quality furniture from partnering designers and individuals and uses the items to help those who have recently secured housing furnish their new home.
Eligible individuals are allowed to shop the warehouse and pick whatever items they need at no cost.
According to Diversion's website, the organization has helped more than 1,300 people.
Where the public comes in: Once a month, Diversion opens its warehouse to the public with pieces priced at significant discounts to make space for future items and raise money.

I left with a globe, dessert tray and piece of home decor. Two items didn't have prices marked, and I was told to pay whatever I wanted to donate for them.
It was shopping that made me feel good.

Haley Joel Osment Ordered to Attend A.A. After Ski Resort Arrest
A judge has ordered the actor Haley Joel Osment to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and therapy sessions for the next six months as part of a deal to dispose of charges of public intoxication and cocaine possession after he insulted the police. Mr. Osment, who rose to fame as the child actor of 'Sixth Sense' in 1999, was arrested in April at a ski resort in Mono County, Calif. Police footage of the arrest showed Mr. Osment refusing to answer questions from officers. He also asserted that he was being tortured and kidnapped by a 'Nazi' and used an antisemitic slur while addressing an officer. Later he apologized for his words and said he had experienced a blackout. At a court appearance on Monday, a judge granted Mr. Osment's request for a one-year diversion from prosecution, saying he would dismiss the charges if over the next six months the actor obeys all laws, attends three A.A. meetings a week and meets with his therapist twice a week. Diversion is an alternative procedure in criminal cases in many states that allows certain defendants to avoid prosecution and a criminal record by agreeing to complete a rehabilitation program and a period of probation. David Anderson, the Mono County district attorney, said in a statement that his office disagreed with the judge's decision. 'Based on Mr. Osment's prior D.U.I. conviction, as well as his slurs toward the arresting officer, my office did not believe diversion was appropriate,' Mr. Anderson said. A representative for Mr. Osment did not respond to a request for comment on Wednesday. He is scheduled to reappear in court in January, when the court will review his compliance with the orders. Celebs share how they plan to remember loved ones this Celebration Day
Lindsey Burrow, wife of rugby league legend Rob Burrow, planted wildflowers today at the National Trust's Quarry Bank to mark Celebration Day this week. It is dedicated to honouring those who have inspired and shaped us long after they've died. Rob Burrow was a beloved sportsman who inspired many with his courage after a 2019 motor neurone disease diagnosis. He died in 2024, leaving a lasting legacy of awareness and advocacy. Wearing a Celebration Day star pin badge (available at WHSmith stores across the UK), Lindsey joined staff from the National Trust's Quarry Bank to help launch Celebration Day's free 'Seeds of Memory' wildflower packs. The seed packets are available for free at 94 National Trust second-hand bookshops in England and Wales, giving people a chance to plant in memory of someone special at home. Held annually on the last May bank holiday Monday, and Inspired by traditions like Mexico's Day of the Dead, Celebration Day provides a dedicated opportunity for the nation to celebrate the lives of those who have shaped us - whether through personal connections, history, or culture. Speaking at Quarry Bank, Lindsey said: 'Planting wildflower seeds at Quarry Bank in memory of Rob to mark Celebration Day has been really special. 'I love the idea behind Celebration Day – it's a gentle reminder to pause, reflect, and celebrate the people who have shaped our lives.' Free 'Wildflower Seeds of Memory 'packs are part of a wider initiative that includes a Celebration Day memorial woodland at the National Trust's Dunham Massey, where over two years, 5,000 trees have been planted thanks to public donations. Later this year, during tree planting season, the conservation charity has invited Lindsey to plant a tree in memory of Rob. She added: 'Doing something simple like scattering seeds can open up conversations, especially with children, and help create new memories in their honour. 'Rob always loved nature, and doing something like this – something gentle and meaningful – feels like a really special way to keep him close. 'The kids and I talk about him all the time, and I know we'll be planting more wildflowers together at home on Celebration Day, when Rob will be in our thoughts.' Great British Bake Off judge Dame Prue Leith added: 'We don't spend enough time thinking about, talking about or celebrating the people we have loved, admired or been bewitched by. 'Go on, give Celebration Day a go. ' Write a memoir or drink a toast to them, plant a tree in their memory, or just put his or her picture on social media with a wee tribute.'
