
Community event in Muscat to promote reading culture
Muscat: The Directorate General of Education in Muscat Governorate, represented by the Educational Supervision Department's Learning Resources Centre, in cooperation with the Omani Women's Association in Al Amerat and the Omani Sociologist Association (OSA), organised a community event under the theme 'A Reading Society for an Aware Future.'
The initiative was held at the Association headquarters in Al Amerat.
The event was held in the presence of Dr Yousuf al Nadabi, Director of the Educational Supervision Department, and Younis Al Hooti, Senior Learning Resources Supervisor, and it brought together students from schools across the wilayat, along with teachers, parents and representatives from the local community.
Organised by learning resources specialists from various schools in the governorate under the supervision of Nasra bint Mohammed Al Oufi, Learning Resources Supervisor, the initiative aimed to foster a culture of reading within both school environments and the wider community.
It also sought to enhance students' skills in knowledge acquisition and innovation, while highlighting the role of learning resources centres in supporting education in line with Oman Vision 2040.
The event featured a range of educational and interactive corners designed to engage participants of all age groups, including the Young Reader's Corner, Omani Author's Corner, Omani Encyclopedia, Free Reading and Drawing, Educational Games, Creative Workshops, Special Needs, Artificial Intelligence and Technology Corner, and E-Knowledge Corner.
Each corner offered enriching activities that combined learning with creativity and entertainment, contributing to the development of students' reading habits, critical thinking, and independent learning skills.
Nasra al Oufi noted that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to create a dynamic and modern reading environment by positioning learning resource centres as key components of the educational process.
'We aim to connect students with knowledge through engaging and contemporary methods,' she said.
The event was well received by attendees, who commended the diversity of content and the overall quality of the event.

Port of Duqm wins the ‘Quality Choice 2025' Diamond award by European Society for Quality Research
Muscat: In a prestigious international ceremony held in the Swedish capital Stockholm, the Port of Duqm was awarded the 'Quality Choice 2025 – Diamond Category' by the European Society for Quality Research (ESQR). This honour recognises the port's strong commitment to business ethics, pioneering initiatives in quality management and sustainability, and its exceptional success at a global institutional level. A total of 48 institutions from 41 countries across Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Australia were selected to receive this year's award. During the ceremony, Eng. Hashim Tahir Al Ibrahim, Chief Business Support Officer at the Port of Duqm, gave a speech expressing the port's pride in this recognition, stating: 'This award not only reflects the strength of our systems and procedures, but it also embodies the vision and commitment of every individual at Port of Duqm. We don't just provide logistics services — we play a strategic role in building a green economic future for the Sultanate of Oman.' A strategic gateway Al Ibrahim highlighted that the Port of Duqm is more than a maritime port; it serves as a strategic gateway between the Middle East and Europe and is leading efforts to become a regional hub for green hydrogen, in alignment with Oman Vision 2040. He emphasised that the concept of quality at the Port of Duqm goes beyond performance indicators. It encompasses customer satisfaction, employee safety, operational efficiency, and a continuous drive for digital transformation and innovation. He also shed light on current and future environmental sustainability projects, including the development of green infrastructure, the use of solar energy, biofuels, and equipment powered by electricity and hydrogen. Al Ibrahim also reviewed the port's efforts to protect marine life, such as preserving Arabian Sea humpback whales, restoring coral reefs, and researching seaweed farming, in collaboration with partners and the local community. He stressed that Port of Duqm's philosophy of quality is rooted in social, economic, and environmental sustainability, aligning all initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supporting youth empowerment and entrepreneurship in Al Wusta Governorate through social responsibility and training programmes. He concluded by saying: 'This recognition marks a new starting point toward achieving higher levels of excellence. We dedicate this achievement to our partners, stakeholders, and our community, and we look forward to a more sustainable, inclusive, and quality-driven future.'

Arab Open University fetes new graduates
MUSCAT: The Arab Open University celebrated the graduation of the thirteenth batch which comprised 430 graduates of diploma, bachelor and master's degrees. The celebration was under the auspices of Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation; and with the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal al Saud, Chairman of the University's Board of Trustees, members of the board, several esteemed dignitaries and honoured guests. The ceremony commenced with a short documentary highlighting the university's journey, academic mission and its societal contributions in Oman and across the Arab region. The programme of the ceremony included a speech by the AOU Rector in the Sultanate of Oman; Prof Mohammed bin Hamdan al Badi, during which he affirmed the university's commitment to the vision of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. He noted that this national vision continues to inspire the development of higher education and the promotion of innovation. Following that, His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal Al Saud delivered a speech, highlighting the university's contributions to Oman's higher education landscape, in collaboration with other academic institutions. He emphasised the university's role in enriching Omani society with graduates in various fields of knowledge, education and training. His Highness reaffirmed the university's commitment to continuing the mission and vision of its late founder, His Royal Highness Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz, may he rest in peace, advocating for the right of all to education and knowledge; and for the university's contribution to the development of Arab societies. Prof Mohammed al Zakri, President of the Arab Open University at the regional level, also addressed the graduates. He extended his congratulations and reaffirmed the university's ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality education in partnership with The Open University in the United Kingdom and in alignment with international quality assurance standards.
