Pop icon Belinda Carlisle teases Australian tour as she announces new album inspired by her youth

Daily Mail2 days ago

Belinda Carlisle is gearing up for a triumphant return with her brand-new album Once Upon A Time In California.
The Heaven Is a Place on Earth hitmaker, 66, last toured Australia in September 2024, performing to packed theatres across the country during her Decades tour.
And with her latest album set for release in August, the singer has sparked speculation she's already eyeing off another run of live dates.
Now, the beloved frontwoman of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Go-Go's is returning to her roots, unveiling a nostalgic ten-track collection steeped in the golden sounds of her Californian upbringing.
'This collection of songs is the best representation of what I loved back then that I could think of,' Belinda said in a statement to Daily Mail Australia about the upcoming album.

'Listening to it brings back so many memories of a time and a California that doesn't really exist anymore… Here's to the California of my dreams.'
Once Upon A Time In California is a deeply personal project, reimagining iconic tracks that shaped her as a young artist.
Produced by Gabe Lopez and recorded in LA, the album features moving renditions of Anyone Who Had A Heart, Superstar, If You Could Read My Mind, The Air That I Breathe, and more.
'I lived and breathed music – it was my great escape,' she continued.
'Every day after school and during the summer holidays, I'd be glued to the radio singing along. Always fantasising about being a singer myself, one day.'
Far from a typical covers album, Belinda's latest work is a heartfelt tribute to the spirit and innocence of the California she once knew – a time, she says, that was 'unique and magical.'
The album follows the success of her 2023 EP Kismet, and the momentum of her sold-out Australian tour last year, where fans across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth got a chance to relive her iconic hits live.
Speaking previously to Australian radio, Belinda reflected on her decades-spanning career, saying: 'I've worked with some amazing people like Brian Wilson and George Harrison – but Australia has always held a special place in my heart.'
'I lived and breathed music – it was my great escape,' she continued. 'Every day after school and during the summer holidays, I'd be glued to the radio singing along. Always fantasising about being a singer myself, one day'
With The Air That I Breathe now available as the album's lead single and pre-orders open, fans are already buzzing over the possibility of another Australian tour.
'I've always loved coming to Australia - the audiences are just incredible,' she said.
'There's just a warmth and excitement that makes performing here feel really special.'
Once Upon A Time In California will be released on CD, vinyl and digital platforms on August 29.
Pre-orders are now live, and the album's first single is available to stream.

UK pop star Rita Ora reveals the surprising gift she took home from her time Down Under: 'It's your fault, Australia'

UK pop star has revealed a very surprising gift that she took home during her recent stint Down Under. The Lonely Together hitmaker, 34, was a coach on Channel Seven series The Voice from 2021 to 2023. Speaking to the Daily Telegraph about her latest sultry single Heat, Rita revealed that Australia was to thank for her stunning beach bod. The clip for Rita's new single features the bikini clad popstar sunning herself on Miami beach. While she may also often flaunt her svelte bikini-clad frame on social media, the popstar revealed it hasn't always been the case. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Asked by the publication if she was 'born in a bikini', Rita admitted she only started to feel comfortable in swimwear after her Australian jaunt. 'Everyone's been asking me that,' Rita exclaimed. 'When I first got there to do The Voice, my health life changed drastically so I feel like I found my bikini bod in Australia, genuinely.' She added that she was inspired to take a more active approach to her fitness after catching a glimpse of the Australian lifestyle. 'I started exercising, sitting in the sun, seeing how fit everyone else is in Australia when they're walking down the beach,' she said. 'So it's your fault, Australia, you've made me just wear a bikini.' It comes after Rita set pulses racing with a very cheeky display to promote the single earlier this week. She made sure all eyes were on her as she posed up a storm in the tiny This Belongs To shorts that she paired with a hot pink bikini. Rita layered a white strappy body suit over her diamante swimwear all from the same brand and added inches to her physique with a pair of strappy heeled sandals. To accessorise, the songstress wore a pair of large white Pucci sunglasses and colourful hoop earrings. Heat is expected to feature on her upcoming, still untitled, fourth album, which will be her first album release since her 2023 You & I. Rita has recently been supporting Kylie Minogue for the first leg of her tour after she previously revealed that Kylie's 2023 mega-hit from Tension, Padam Padam, was nearly given to her. The synth-pop banger - penned by Norwegian singer-songwriter Ina Wroldsen and producer Lostboy - was a viral hit for Kylie. But several artists were asked if they wanted to record it, including the Anywhere singer, because they didn't feel it was a Kylie song. Lostboy told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: 'We wrote Padam in February 2022 and there were maybe four or five months of us sitting on it, then I sent it to their label, and someone suggested to me, "Kylie would kill this."' He added: 'They were unsure and there was a moment when Rita was going to cut it and it was worming around a few artists on that label. 'They were trying to make it work but they didn't think it was for Kylie.' Rita is well-known to Australian audiences for her role as a judge on The Voice from 2021 to 2023. She appeared as a panellist on the UK version of the show since it launched its first episode in 2020, before she was replaced by Maya Jama this year. Elsewhere, 2023 was Rita's first appearance on the US version of the show as she replaced Nicole Scherzinger, who left to star in the West End hit Sunset Boulevard. She also tied the knot with New Zealand director Taika Waititi in a low-key ceremony back in 2022. While the couple live between London, Los Angeles and New Zealand, they have been spending more time Down Under as they both work on creative projects.

Hollywood A-lister looks unrecognisable with bushy beard and scruffy hair – can you guess who he is?

THIS Terminal List actor is completely unrecognisable after being completely transformed by his hair and make up team. This Hollywood A-lister has completely shed hit typical macho image for his latest stint in the action-thriller, but can you guess who it is? 8 8 8 It's Guardians of the Galaxy star, Chris Pratt! The actor shared a video during some downtime filming the latest season of Prime Video's The Terminal List – though looks miles away from his typical clean shaven image. Speaking to the camera during his lunch, he revealed the upcoming season of the book series adaptation will be based on novel, True Believer by Jack Carr. He then told cameras: "I just want to say, Isn't this hair and makeup incredible? My team does such an awesome job." Showing his hands looking gory and battered with fake blood, Chris added: "Look, I don't want to tell you what I've been up to, but there's blood on my hands. Okay, there's blood on my hands." Giving insight into the ups and downs of being in hair and make-up, Chris said: "My team is awesome. They do such great makeup and such great hair. And this is, like, this moustache, this hair is all a wig. "It's a fake beard. It looks freaking incredible." "The crazy thing about wearing a fake moustache or a fake beard is when you eat, you get hair in your mouth, which is gross, because it's definitely someone else's hair and and you don't know who's where it came from," he added. "I mean, look at that hair, where that come from? What I mean is that... that's not... you don't think it's, is it someone's pubes? No. "Anyways, I don't care. I'm hungry." 8 8 In the series, Chris plays Lieutenant Commander James Reece, a NAVY Seal who finds himself struggling against people working against him after an operation goes wrong. The bloody series saw Reece go rogue to get his own form of justice for his team after being given a terminal diagnosis. The first season became an instant smash hit upon its release in 2022, and while it was renewed in 2023 for a second season, it's only filming now. Prime Video has also confirmed a prequel series, Terminal List: Dark Wolf, has been given the green light, and will star The Umbrella Academy's Tom Hopper, Taylor Kitsch and Luke Hemsworth. 8 8 8
