Two Convicted for Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation in Bahrain

The Chief Public Prosecutor and Head of the Human Trafficking Prosecution has announced that the High Criminal Court sentenced two individuals to three years in prison each, fined them BHD 2,000, and ordered them to cover the costs of returning the victim to her home country. The court also ruled that the two defendants be permanently deported from Bahrain after serving their sentences for trafficking the woman for sexual exploitation. According to the prosecution, the case began when the Anti-Human Trafficking Directorate received a report that the two suspects had lured the victim with a fake job offer in Bahrain. Upon her arrival, she was confined in an apartment and threatened to force her into prostitution. The Public Prosecutor explained that investigations began immediately after the report. The victim was placed in a shelter under the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, while the suspects were detained pending investigation. Authorities conducted all necessary inquiries, gathered evidence, and questioned the defendants before referring them to criminal court. Following the completion of the trial, the court confirmed the charges and issued the prison sentences, fines, and deportation orders against the two traffickers.

Bahrain Court Jails Three for Human Trafficking and Forced Labour

The First High Criminal Court in Bahrain has sentenced three people for exploiting two victims in forced labour. One defendant received three years in prison, while the other two were each sentenced to one year. All three were fined a total of BD 4,000 and ordered to cover the costs of returning the victims to their home country. According to the Public Prosecution's Anti-Trafficking Division, the case began when the two victims reported that they had been forced to work in jobs different from what was agreed upon, without pay, for long hours, and in conditions unsuitable for the nature of the work. They also alleged that their freedom was restricted, with doors locked to prevent them from leaving. Prosecutors immediately began investigating, placing the victims in a shelter run by the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons. Witnesses were interviewed, the accused were questioned and remanded in custody, and police investigations confirmed the victims' claims. The case was then referred to the criminal court, which handed down the verdict earlier this week.
