Kaiser Chiefs announce 20th anniversary reissue of seminal debut album Employment
As 20 years is typically celebrated with china, Ricky Wilson and co have announced the 'China Anniversary' formats. The 1LP edition is pressed on white vinyl, and includes 'bonus' track 'Take My Temperature'; the 2LP set features 15 additional tracks, including a selection of B-Sides and CD single bonus tracks, plus two previously unreleased songs, exclusive to this format.
On the 3CD set, alongside the original album, the band have added 40 tracks, including previously unreleased demo recordings, remixes, radio sessions, and a selection of live tracks that chart their rapid rise from small club dates in Leeds, to festival headline act.
The album - which spawned the hits 'I Predict A Riot', 'Oh My God', and 'Everyday I Love You Less And Less' - was remastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.
The group commented: '20 years ago, a brand-new song by a brand-new band was released. 'I Predict A Riot' was the start of something really special for some musicians from Leeds.
'And the album that followed, 'Employment', changed our lives and has soundtracked the lives of millions of others since 2005. In 2025 we are saluting 20 years of that album and everyone is invited. Come celebrate the 2000's, loving everything less and less and stripey blazers taking over the world..'
Kaiser Chiefs are also celebrating the milestone with a series of shows, including Port Talbot on May 23, and huge outdoor concerts in Leeds, Bristol, Edinburgh, London, Brighton, Cumbria, and Newquay.
On the 18th anniversary of 'Employment', Ricky, 47, quipped on Virgin Radio: 'I mean, I don't think I've changed too much. I do get a Hello Fresh box, and I brush my teeth at least twice a day, but apart from that, I haven't changed at all. I promise you that!'
'Employment' peaked at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart. It spent over 17 months in the Official Top 40 and was eventually certified 7× Platinum.

Michael Kiwanuka axes all planned shows
Michael Kiwanuka has cancelled all his forthcoming shows due to 'continued illness'. The 38-year-old singer had a string of festival appearances planned for next month, including We Out Here and Victorious in the UK, All Together Now in Ireland, Hungary's Sziget Festival and Pukkelpop in Belgium, but he has announced he will no longer be appearing at the events, or supporting Mumford and Sons across North America in October due to unspecificed health issues. A statement shared to his Instagram Story read: 'We are so sorry to announce that due to continued illness, and on the advice of doctors, Michael will sadly be unable to perform at the rest of his scheduled festival performances throughout the rest of the summer and the shows in North America in October (including the support tour with Mumford + Sons). 'We know this is disappointing news to hear, and nobody is more disappointed and saddened than Michael to no longer be taking to the stage as planned. 'Love and thanks to everyone for their understanding.' While many of the events have revealed they are seeking replacement acts, Victorious festival in Portsmouth have already announced that Kaiser Chiefs will be stepping into Michael's slot. They wrote on their Facebook page: "Unfortunately, due to ongoing illness and on the advice of doctors, Michael Kiwanuka will no longer be able to perform at any of his scheduled festival appearances this summer, including his set at Victorious. "We're sending Michael our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery, and we hope to see him back on stage soon. "In the meantime, we're thrilled to announce that the incredible Kaiser Chiefs will be stepping in to perform in his place. Known for their high-energy performances, you won't want to miss them ahead of Queens of the Stone Age on the main stage!" Meanwhile, the Cold Little Heart hitmaker recently told how winning the Mercury Prize in 2019 for his Kiwanuka album helped him feel more free because he stopped "desperately" seeking validation. He told the BBC: "It sort of woke me up. "I'd been desperately looking for approval from my peers and certain [media] outlets - and the Mercury freed me from that desperation. "It allowed me to feel that, actually, I just want to make the records that come naturally."

Ricky Wilson 'didn't appreciate the magnitude of Glastonbury'
Ricky Wilson "didn't appreciate the magnitude" of playing Glastonbury before Kaiser Chiefs' first appearance. The Everyday I Love You Less and Less hitmakers performed at Worthy Farm in Somerset for the first time in 2005 following the success of their debut album Employment, and the 47-year-old star has recalled how he hadn't realised how big the group had got in the UK until they took to the Pyramid Stage in front of a huge crowd. He told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: 'I didn't really appreciate the magnitude of playing there. We were playing so many shows, I was just taking it in my stride. We'd just released Employment and we'd be playing to 200 people in Italy, then 1,000 people in America. 'Then we got back to the UK and we didn't realise how big it had got here until we arrived at Glastonbury and the crowd was mental. Everyone knew the words to our songs. It blew us away.' Kaiser Chiefs will open the Pyramid Stage on Saturday (28.06.25) but Ricky revealed they will be changing up their set from what they have been playing on their current tour. He said: 'We've been on tour with Employment to celebrate the 20th anniversary and at those shows we've been playing it in full. 'We thought about just doing that but we've got too many other songs that would be missed. 'Many people know the songs but we've also got weapons in our arsenal that may be bigger.' The former Voice coach last attended the festival in 2023, where he had a bizarre encounter with actor Andrew Garfield. He recalled: 'I stood in the crowd watching Elton John and then I noticed Andrew Garfield was next to me. 'When Your Song started, our hands happened to brush past each other. I said to Andrew, 'Shall we?'. He nodded and we just held hands. He won't deny it if you ask him." And he had another odd moment during the festival that year. He said: 'I dressed up as Elvis Presley — the full jumpsuit, everything. I was supposed to be doing some songs in Block9 but I got there and didn't bother. 'I was with Leigh Francis and we ended up going to Glastonbury-on-Sea instead and we did the bingo calling twice.'

It's been 20 years since the indie lads from Leeds stamped their way into our eardrums with the release of their debut album Employment . Now, Kaiser Chiefs are headed back Down Under for the first time since 2012, for a run of headline shows marking the album's 20th anniversary. Wedding the hookiest bits of Britpop and new wave with the jerky guitars so popular in '00s indie, Employment positioned Kaiser Chiefs as a band with smarts, presence and winning tunes.
