JLR Delays Range Rover And Jaguar EV Launches Again, Here's Why

More testing, slow demand, and global market shifts push back launch timelines for Jaguar Land Rover's highly anticipated electric vehicles. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has officially delayed the launch of its much-awaited electric Range Rover and Jaguar EV models. Originally scheduled to hit the roads by late 2025, these vehicles will now roll out sometime in 2026 and beyond. The company says it's using this extra time to carry out more in-depth testing and to wait for the EV demand to pick up. Customers who had booked the Range Rover Electric have been informed that deliveries won't begin until next year, upsetting many who were hoping to drive the new model this year. Jaguar EV Line-Up Also Faces Delay It's not just the Range Rover Electric facing a delay. Two all-new Jaguar EVs, expected as part of the brand's rebranding efforts, are also behind schedule. The first is now expected in August 2026, with the second model likely pushed to late 2027. Both models will be priced above £100,000 (Rs 1.16 crore), aimed at the luxury segment. Why the Hold-Up? One major reason for the delay is the need for further development and testing of the new EV platforms. Another contributing factor is market uncertainty. JLR wants to wait for electric vehicle demand to pick up before fully committing. Adding to the pressure, former US President Donald Trump's tariffs briefly halted exports to the United States, causing a 15.1 percent drop in JLR sales in the April–June quarter. Although a new UK-US trade deal has helped ease tariffs on the first 100,000 exports, the slowdown has impacted operations. To manage costs, JLR has also introduced a voluntary redundancy scheme for up to 500 managers. What's next for JLR's EV line-up? Besides the Range Rover Electric, JLR is also working on an electric Velar and a Defender EV. But those too could face delays. Despite setbacks, JLR remains optimistic. As per Team BHP, a spokesperson said: 'We'll launch our EVs at the right time—for our customers and for the market." view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Range Rover Electric global launch postponed to 2026, first Jaguar EV delay likely

The Range Rover Electric was initially slated for a global launch in late 2025 but could now arrive sometime in 2026 Check Offers Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has been readying the launch of the first-ever electric Range Rover for later this year, but plans for the global launch have been delayed to 2026. JLR has confirmed to customers about the delay of the Range Rover Electric's global launch, informing them that deliveries have been pushed to sometime in 2026. Not just the Range Rover Electric, but the upcoming Jaguar EV could be delayed as well. JLR Wants Stronger Demand Despite 61,000 Buyers On Waitlist A report by The Guardian states that JLR needs more time to test its EVs, while the extended period will also give the automaker more time for demand to pick up. JLR previously said that over 61,000 buyers were on the waiting list for the new Range Rover Electric. Over 16,000 buyers were registered in the first week of February 2024. Also Read : Range Rover Velar Autobiography launched in India, prices start at ₹ 89.90 lakh The upcoming Jaguar Type 00 Concept-based EV could be delayed as well, ahead of its scheduled debut next year The report comes amidst JLR's weakened sales globally as well as the recent decision to cut 500 management positions in the UK. The automaker's sales dropped 15.1 per cent in the last three months since June this year after a temporary pause in sales in the US, its biggest market. However, the delay could help not only improve its upcoming products but could also help JLR ride out the tariff-related delays. Sales are expected to improve once the US-UK's limited trade deal comes into place, providing 10 per cent lower tariffs on the first 100,000 exports. Future JLR EVs Could Be Delayed The delay could result in JLR delaying its future projects. This includes the electric Range Rover Velar, which is slated to commence production in April 2026, while an EV under the Defender sub-brand is expected to start production in the first quarter of 2027. The upcoming Range Rover EV and Jaguar Type 00-based electric offering will be the first models built by the company itself. The company previously sold the Jaguar I-Pace as its first electric offering, but it was built by a contract manufacturer. Also Read : Range Rover Electric to skip frunk despite many EV makers marketing it as a key USP The Range Rover Electric promises over 500 km from its 117 kWh battery pack, while retaining the same design as the ICE-powered version Range Rover Electric Specifications JLR has revealed select details on the upcoming Range Rover Electric. The electric version looks identical to the petrol and diesel-powered Range Rover, but packs a 117 kWh battery pack promising over 500 km on a single charge. The electric SUV will draw power from a dual-motor setup, one on each axle, and is expected to churn out about 550 bhp and 851 Nm of peak torque. The model will be built on an 800-volt architecture, allowing ultra-fast charging speeds of up to 350 kW. Check out Upcoming EV Cars in India. First Published Date: 19 Jul 2025, 20:03 pm IST

Range Rover Velar Autobiography: 5 key things to know before you buy

The Range Rover Velar Autobiography has been priced at ₹89.90 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has launched the new Range Rover Velar Autobiography variant in India, priced at ₹ 89.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned ₹ 5 lakh above the Dynamic SE trim, the Autobiography brings a richer blend of luxury, technology, and off-road capability. This variant builds on the Velar's modern design and elevates it with high-end materials, enhanced in-cabin features, and a broader equipment list. Here are five key highlights of the newly launched Range Rover Velar Autobiography: 1 Interior The Velar Autobiography's interior has been upgraded to deliver a more premium experience. It comes equipped with Full Extended Windsor leather upholstery, extending across the dashboard, door panels, and seats. Complementing the leather are Suede cloth headlining and a sliding panoramic roof, which enhance both luxury and openness. Comfort features include 20-way power-adjustable front seats with massage function, power-recline rear seats, and four-zone climate control—a first for the Velar in India. Configurable ambient lighting allows users to tailor the mood inside the cabin, while the cabin air purification system ensures a cleaner and healthier in-car environment. 2 Technology Tech enhancements are a big part of what sets the Autobiography apart. It features the Meridian 3D Surround Sound System for a more immersive audio experience, along with a host of driver assistance technologies such as a 3D Surround Camera, Wade Sensing, and Terrain Response 2, which optimizes off-road performance based on different surfaces. The SUV also benefits from Electronic Air Suspension, allowing the ride height to be adjusted for better ride quality and ground clearance. The Adaptive Dynamics system continuously monitors the vehicle's movements and adjusts the suspension settings accordingly for a smoother drive. 3 Design While the Velar's design remains largely unchanged, the Autobiography trim adds a few bespoke elements that enhance its road presence. It continues with the signature floating roof design, flush-fitting door handles, and Pixel LED headlights with signature daytime running lights (DRLs). A key visual update is the inclusion of 20-inch Satin Dark Grey alloy wheels with Burnished Copper accents, giving the SUV a more sophisticated look. The model also sports a contrasting black roof, adding a sportier edge to its overall appearance. 4 Engine Buyers can choose between two refined engine options. The P250 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 247 bhp and 365 Nm of torque, while the D200 2.0-litre diesel engine, paired with mild-hybrid technology, generates 201 bhp and 430 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and come with all-wheel drive as standard, ensuring confident performance on various terrains. The diesel's mild-hybrid system improves efficiency and enhances start-stop operations, contributing to a more seamless and eco-friendly driving experience. 5 Rivals The Range Rover Velar Autobiography competes in the high-end mid-size luxury SUV segment, going up against rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, Volvo XC90, and Audi Q7. While those models are known for their performance and features, the Velar Autobiography sets itself apart with its distinctive British design, minimalist aesthetics, and a more refined, serene cabin.
