No time to relax for CD Salgaocar
After finishing third in Goa Pro League on debut, CD Salgaocar ensured qualification for next season's third division I-League Panaji: Clube de Salgaocar made heads turn on debut in the Goa Professional League . Having secured a direct corporate entry into the top tier of Goan football, the club stayed away from glamorous signings and handed the keys to a young Keenan Almeida . Not much was expected from the coach or the club in its first year, but the new entrants made a steady start and then finished strongly. CD Salgaocar secured the third spot behind champions Sporting Clube de Goa and Dempo SC , good enough for them to ensure qualification for next season's third division I-League , a significant achievement. 'We took one match at a time and set our goals as the season progressed,' Keenan told TOI. 'Any team at the start of the season targets for the title. Keenan, a former international, did well for himself as a footballer, having donned colours for all the top clubs. The image of him running the length of Fatorda after scoring for FC Goa, arms stretched, his head bandaged, has stayed in the minds of fans for a long time. As coach though he was untested, yet Salgaocar kept faith in him, impressed with the goals that he sets for himself and the team. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Vietnam (Take A Look At The Prices) Container House | Search Ads Search Now Undo If the first season results are any indication, they made the right choice. 'It was smooth sailing as the management put things in place in a very professional manner. When you have like-minded people around you, facing challenges becomes easy,' said the former FC Goa defender. The GPL now has 14 teams, so it was never going to be easy for the debutants, owned by industrialist Dattaraj Salgaocar , who co-owned Indian Super League (ISL) side FC Goa during its inception in 2014. Salgaocar still managed to win 12 of their 20 matches, drawing five and losing just three times. Having qualified for the third division I-League, Salgaocar will have to reboot for next season. The club and coach wants to retain the core and make additions which are good enough to test teams at the national level. Just two seasons ago, Dempo and Sporting Clube both started their comeback from I-League 3. While Dempo secured promotion to the I-League the following season, Sporting fell just short. 'Right from the start of the season, we focussed on setting up a culture at the club. Culture that values a hard-working attitude and a disciplined approach. This is just one step taken in the right direction. I would say now there is more work to be done. So, there is no time to relax, we keep working humbly towards the next challenges,' said Keenan.

FC Goa wins Kalinga Super Cup title, defeats Jamshedpur FC 3-0
Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], May 4 (ANI): FC Goa defeated Jamshedpur FC with a 3-0 win to clinch the 2025 Super Cup title at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Saturday. Borja Herrera led the charge with a brilliant brace, while Dejan Drazic added the finishing touch on a night. The victory marked FC Goa's first trophy under head coach Manolo Marquez, whose chapter at the club came to an end in the perfect manner. It was Goa's second Super Cup title overall, making them the first club to win the tournament twice. The result also secured their qualification for the AFC Champions League Two 2025-26 as they will return to an Asian club competition after four years, an AIFF release read. The match was billed as a battle between FC Goa's attacking firepower and Jamshedpur's unbreached defence, yet by full-time, it was clear which side had stamped its authority. Jamshedpur, known for their compact shape and counter-attacking style, and having not conceded a single goal until the final, simply couldn't cope with Goa's expansive play, it added. While Jamshedpur did show some early promise, Javier Hernandez forcing a sharp save from Hrithik Tiwari in the third minute, the momentum quickly swung in Goa's favour. With Aakash Sangwan and Dejan Drazic tearing down the wings and Carl McHugh and Borja pulling the strings in midfield, Goa dominated both possession and territory, the release stated. The opener arrived in the 23rd minute. Sangwan made a blistering run down the left and unleashed a powerful drive that Albino Gomes could only parry. Borja was first to the rebound -- his first shot was blocked, but he coolly slotted the second into the roof of the net. Jamshedpur's best chance came late in the first half when Lazar Cirkovic's header rattled the crossbar, but their lack of attacking thrust was evident throughout, it added. FC Goa doubled their lead in the 51st minute with a moment of brilliance. Borja, picking the ball up near midfield, surged forward and unleashed a ferocious 25-yard strike that arrowed into the top corner, leaving Gomes helpless. Khalid Jamil's men tried to claw their way back, with Jordan Murray setting up Javier Siverio, but the forward blasted over from close range, AIFF statement said. The third and final goal came in the 71st minute and showcased Goa's poise and precision. McHugh dissected the defence with a perfectly weighted through ball, and Drazic latched on, rounded the keeper, and tapped home into an empty net, the release stated.
