Time of Indiaa day ago
Hyderabad: "AI is not here to replace jobs, but to enhance the way we work. For students, the key is to adapt to these new tools and learn how to use them to grow in their careers," said S Zarar, director of ICBM School of Business Excellence, as more than 200 MBA students participated in a two-day AI masterclass in Hyderabad.
Organised by The Times of India in collaboration with ICBM, Attapur, the "AI Essentials for MBAs" programme was held on Aug 18–19 as part of TOI's new campus engagement initiative. The sessions focused on equipping management students with practical, workplace-ready applications of artificial intelligence.
Conducted over two days with hands-on exercises, the workshop introduced students to AI-powered tools for business communication, productivity, job search, and marketing.
Participants explored how to craft effective prompts, design AI-assisted resumes, experiment with text-to-image and text-to-video generation, and even prototype small AI-powered solutions.

"This masterclass was unlike a typical lecture, it was interactive and incredibly relevant," said Ibtisam Hanif Khan, a first-year PGDM student. "We now know how to use AI not just for academic assignments, but for employability and productivity."
Faculty members also attended as observers, noting how AI can be meaningfully integrated into classrooms without replacing critical human judgment. Sessions highlighted themes such as trust calibration with AI outputs, ethical guardrails in design thinking, and the future potential of generative models.
Calling the programme a turning point for management education, Ritu Zarar, chairperson of ICBM, said: "An AI workshop is not just about learning technology, it's about unlocking the future.
It empowers minds to innovate, solve real-world problems, and shape a smarter world."
The masterclass was led by industry trainer and UX mentor Anudeep Ayyagari, who stressed the importance of structured learning. "Students often use AI casually, but with the right approach, prompting techniques, ethical frameworks, and clarity of purpose, it becomes a true productivity partner. That's what this programme aimed to instill," he said.
The concluding session saw students generate AI-powered visuals and short videos for mock marketing campaigns, applying concepts from the workshop in real time. "I never imagined I could create a professional-grade poster and video in minutes. This gave me confidence that I can stand out during internships and placements," said Noora Muddasir, another first-year PGDM student.

Climate change behind Vidarbha's agrarian crisis: Ghorpade

1 2 Nagpur: Maharashtra's climate action plan stresses the urgent need for higher investment and convergence of schemes to tackle the growing climate crisis. The plan features a dedicated chapter on climate finance, recommending that cities and districts prepare their own climate budgets. Pointing to excess rainfall over short spans and prolonged dry spells, state climate action cell director Abhijit Ghorpade said Vidarbha is experiencing agricultural stress due to climate change, while rural landscapes hold the key to absorbing greenhouse gases released by cities. He was speaking to TOI on the sidelines of the Conference of Panchayats (COP) at Chitnavis Centre on Wednesday. The Maharashtra climate action plan was launched on June 5. "Mumbai has already earmarked 32% of its civic budget for climate action. We want other cities and districts to replicate this model by earmarking and tagging climate actions that increase year-on-year," said Ghorpade. So far, four cities, including Mumbai, have released climate plans, with five more in the pipeline. According to Ghorpade, climate action cells at city and district-levels will ensure "all 44 cities prepare their own action plans in the first phase, followed by every district." Vidarbha, Marathwada, and central Maharashtra are facing severe agrarian distress. "Farmers here are solely dependent on monsoon, with no fallback if it fails. Strengthening financial infrastructure, like cooperative societies in western Maharashtra, is crucial," Ghorpade said and added that large-scale use of solar pumps, dryers, chillers, and cold storages could "make farms diesel-free and give farmers sustainable livelihood options. " On the industrial front, the state has rolled out a just transition roadmap targeting coal, thermal power, steel, cement, fertilisers, and automobiles. Fourteen districts have been identified for interventions. "Fifty percent of Vidarbha's coal mines will retire in the next 50 years. Unless we create a safety net and re-skill workers, livelihoods will be at risk," Ghorpade said. The decarbonisation roadmap for cities focuses on the building and energy sectors, which together contribute a bulk of urban emissions. Actions include rooftop solarisation, retrofitting old buildings, promoting sustainable materials, and clean cooking stoves. Calling climate change an "anthropogenic global challenge," Ghorpade said Maharashtra stood at a crossroads — balancing the goal of a trillion-dollar economy by 2030 with net-zero by 2070. "If we continue business as usual, conditions will only worsen. We must adopt low-emission, long-term strategies now," he said. He also stressed the potential of bamboo plantations for carbon sequestration, describing them as "a natural solution that outperforms most other plants." India Successfully Conducts Test Of Agni-5 Ballistic Missile From Odisha

India successfully test-fired the indigenous intermediate range ballistic missile Agni-5 on Wednesday from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha. The Defence Ministry confirmed that the trial met all technical and operational requirements and was conducted under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command. The Agni-5 missile, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has a strike range of about 5,000 kilometres, bringing most of Asia—including northern China—and parts of Europe within its reach. Officials noted that the latest launch further enhances India's strategic deterrence. This trial comes less than four months after India's military confrontation with Pakistan, though authorities avoided linking the two developments. A longer-range intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) version of Agni-5, capable of reaching 7,000 kilometres, is also under development. In June, reports suggested DRDO is working on upgrading the missile's range to 7,500 km. India has already deployed Agni series missiles with ranges between 700 km and 3,500 km. Last year, the country also carried out the first test of an Agni-5 variant equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicle (MIRV) technology, which allows a single missile to carry multiple nuclear warheads. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised DRDO scientists for their continued efforts in strengthening India's defence capabilities. In recent months, India has also test-fired other key systems, including the Prithvi-II (350 km range), Agni-I (700–900 km range), and the tactical surface-to-surface missile 'Pralay,' boosting its conventional and nuclear deterrence arsenal.

State education department to launch whatsapp chatbot for easy access to information

Nagpur: The state school education department is set to launch a WhatsApp chatbot to help teachers, students, and parents access information related to various departmental services. In its first phase, the chatbot will function as an interactive FAQ tool, allowing users to quickly obtain details without navigating through lengthy portals. According to officials, the chatbot will provide information such as exam schedules for teachers and students, admission procedures, and a checklist of documents required for different applications. State education commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh said the service is being introduced to reduce the need for physical visits to government offices and institutions under the department. "The service's primary aim is aligned with the government's vision to minimize the number of trips a person has to make to offices and institutions connected with the education department. For now, this WhatsApp chatbot will provide a curated version of the FAQs available on our portals. It's not always possible to read everything or search for a specific query. This chatbot will provide the required information in a simple and proper manner," Singh said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 11 Foods That Help In Healing Knee Pain Naturally Undo The initiative is part of the government's broader push to promote e-governance across state departments. Sources in the education department said that while the chatbot will initially offer only information services, discussions are underway to expand its scope once backend technological capabilities are strengthened. In the future, students may be able to apply for admissions through WhatsApp, receive mark sheets, or access other crucial documents without visiting offices physically. While there is no timeline set for the proposed futuristic version of the chatbox, many feel that with the advent of AI and tech tools becoming more democratized, it might not be a long before the vision is implemented.
