Javed Akhtar Gets Angry When Asked About India-Pakistan Tension: 'Kuch Nahi Kehna Chahta'

Javed Akhtar recently got irked with the paparazzi after he was asked about the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan at an event. Akhtar told the shutterbugs that it was not the right place for such questions and refused to talk about the ongoing tensions. When asked repeatedly about Pakistan and India army's strikes against terrorist, the lyricist-filmmaker simply walked away.
In a video of the incident that surfaced on social media, Javed Akhtar was seen leaving from an event when the paparazzi surrounded him and asked about Pakistan. Akhtar refused to talk about it and said, 'I will definitely talk to you but this is not the place. You come to my home. We will talk. I have given multiple interviews, can give one to you too."
However, when the reporters pushed the lyricist to talk about Pakistan, he added, 'You are insisting me to be rude to you". Later, when one of the media persons told Javed Akhtar's team that maybe the lyricist wanted to say something, he interrupted by saying, 'I do not want to say anything".

It should be noted that Javed Akhtar had strongly criticised Pakistan following the terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives and left many injured. The lyricist was speaking at a FICCI event in Delhi, when he condemned the recurring nature of such attacks and called for firm action from the Indian government.
'What happened in Pahalgam… of course there will be tension. How can there not be tension when such incidents keep happening? Every few days we see something like this occur, and every year there is at least one such tragic event," he said.
'Every government in this country, whether it's the Congress or the BJP, has tried to establish peace. Even Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji went to Pakistan. But what did they do? They washed the place he visited. Is that what they call friendship?" Akhtar added.

U.S. reaffirms strong support to India in fight against terrorism: State Department
The U.S. reaffirmed its strong support for India's fight against terrorism and the bilateral strategic partnership during the visit of an Indian all-party parliamentary delegation last week, the State Department said. The multi-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor met the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau last week in Washington. State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said at a press briefing on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) that Mr. Landau reaffirmed the U.S.' strong support to India in the fight against terrorism and the strategic partnership between the two countries. The delegation visited the U.S. as part of the government's global outreach efforts after Operation Sindoor. India launched the operation in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. Responding to a question, Ms. Bruce said that a Pakistani parliamentary delegation led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met officials of the State Department, including Under Secretary for Political Affairs Allison Hooker, during its visit to Washington last week. Ms. Hooker reiterated the U.S. support for the ongoing cessation of on-ground hostilities, '— as you might imagine, thank God — between India and Pakistan', Ms. Bruce said, adding that they also discussed important issues about the U.S.-Pakistan bilateral relationship, including counterterrorism cooperation. 'So that meeting occurred.'
