It happened during the partnership between Ben Stokes and Jamie Smith in the final innings. Gill, standing at slips, seemed to urge Jadeja to move the long-on fielder up to entice the English captain to loft one. But Jadeja gently denied it, explaining why that idea wouldn't work.

Gill was heard saying: 'Jaddu bhai, usko bhi upar lelo yaar. Marne do ek aage badhke (Jadeja brother, bring him up too. Let him try hitting one by stepping out)"
Jadeja replied: ' Usko udhar kuch kaam nahi hai. Atleast jaaye toh pakadne wala bhi toh hona chaiye niche. Khada toh udhar bhi kardo, but pakadne wala toh chahiye (He's of no use over there. At least if the ball goes that way, someone should be there to catch it. You can place him there, sure, but there should be someone ready to catch)."
Although such conversations are normal between a captain and a bowler on the cricket field, it shows the interesting dynamic of constructive discussion to the audience. Gill and Jadeja starred in the win, with the former racking up 269 and 161 runs in the two innings and the latter also notching 89 and 69*, alongside one wicket, of Josh Tongue, in the last essay.
Stokes eventually got out to Washington Sundar's well-disguised arm ball and Smith, though crossing 80 again, couldn't take England close to the mammoth 608-run target.
This was India's biggest win in overseas Tests. They'll next play at Lord's starting from Thursday, July 10, with the series currently leveled at 1-1.
