No Flood Can Stop The Wedding: Bihar Groom's Adventure Ride To Shaadi Mandap Looks Straight Out Of War 2
The groom would have taken a direct 35 kilometer route to the bride's village in Bihar, but due to floods, the path became much longer and harder to travel.
In Bihar's Bhagalpur district, heavy floods caused a wedding procession to take an unusual turn. The groom, Devmuni Kumar, could not travel the normal way to his bride's house because the roads were flooded and blocked by water. Instead of riding in a fancy car, Devmuni travelled by boat and used an e-rickshaw to reach the bride's home in Katakosh village. He was joined by close to 25 to 30 friends and family members. Normally, the groom would have taken a direct 35 kilometer route, but as the Ganga River had overflowed, the path became much longer and harder to travel.
Speaking with ETV Bharat, Devmuni's father, Ramdev Mandal, said, 'The date of the wedding was fixed a month ago and the procession was to go to the house of Ramchandra Chaudhary of Katakosh village in Manihari block of Katihar district. But our Bakharpur village was surrounded by flood water on all sides. There was no other way to leave the village except for the 30 of us to move by boat."

Devmuni Kumar shared that his journey to the bride's house started in a decorated Scorpio car, but they couldn't travel far because of the floods. After a point, the bride's family had to walk to reach the riverbank, from where they took a boat. At first, the weather was clear, but as soon as they got on the boat, it began to rain. By the time they reached the bride's house, everyone was soaked. Despite leaving home at day time, they managed to reach the bride's village by 8 PM.
After the boat ride, their journey wasn't over, they were still forced to walk for a few more kilometres before getting into e-rickshaws that finally took them to the wedding venue. The groom said, 'My desire that the party be accompanied by a band playing music along with pomp and show remained unfulfilled."
Apart from Katakosh village, many other places in Bihar, like Nepal, Ganga and Kosi, are also facing heavy rains and floods. Water has entered homes, fields are damaged, and roads are blocked.

Orange alert issued for three Himachal districts; 266 roads closed
Last Updated: Shimla, Aug 4 (PTI) As heavy rains continued to lash Himachal Pradesh on Monday, the meteorological department has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy precipitation at isolated places in three districts, namely Una, Bilaspur and Kangra the next day. According to officials, 266 roads, including the Aut to Sainj National Highway 305, were closed for vehicular movement on Monday. A landslide at Panthaghati in the suburbs of Shimla city obstructed traffic on Mehli-Shogi bypass on Sunday night, with debris blocking the road and stones damaging some shops nearby, residents said. Since Sunday evening, Kasauli received 82 mm of rainfall, followed by Naina Devi (62.6 mm), Jogindernagar (60 mm), Brahmani (49.2 mm), Manali (45.2 mm), Shimla (36.8 mm), Guler (29 mm), Mandi (27.2 mm), Pandoh (27 mm), Karsog (26.2 mm) and Sarahan (25.5 mm), according to the Met office. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), out of the 266 roads closed on Monday, 155 are in Mandi district, which was recently battered by cloudbursts, landslides and flash floods. Sixty eight of the blocked roads are in Kullu district. Since the onset of monsoon on June 20, the state has incurred losses totalling Rs 1,714 crore till date; around 106 people have died in rain-related incidents while 36 are missing. Additionally, 41 power distribution transformers and 282 water supply schemes have been affected, the SEOC added. In a statement, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri said that nearly 95 water supply schemes affected by the recent rains and flash floods have been temporarily restored. Out of the total of 10,067 water supply schemes, about 5,805 schemes were impacted, and the estimated damage to these stands at approximately Rs 434.47 crore, Agnihotri said, adding that 1,293 irrigation schemes were affected, with estimated losses pegged at Rs 101.67 crore. He said that restoration of water supply and sewerage infrastructure remains a top priority for the state government and the departments concerned have been given necessary directions in this regard. According to the SEOC, as many as 1,692 houses have been fully or partially damaged in the state, which has witnessed 54 flash floods, 28 cloudbursts and 48 major landslides so far. The fatalities include 20 drownings, 19 deaths from falls, 17 deaths from cloudbursts, eight from flash floods, and six from landslides. Moderate to heavy showers to continue in northeastern districts of Rajasthan
Agency: Jaipur, Aug 4 (PTI) Rainfall activity is expected to continue in parts of Rajasthan this week, with moderate to heavy showers likely in some northeastern districts over the next two to three days, a MeT department spokesperson said on Monday. While northeastern Rajasthan may receive moderate to isolated heavy rainfall, most parts of western Rajasthan are likely to remain mostly dry, with only light rain expected at a few locations over the next four to five days. Some regions in eastern Rajasthan may also see light to moderate showers during the same period, the spokesperson said. In the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 AM on Monday, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in isolated areas of eastern Rajasthan, while weather remained dry across western parts of the state. The highest rainfall was reported in Bayana (Bharatpur) at 51.0 mm, the Met office said. The maximum temperature during this period was recorded in Bikaner at 37.8 degrees Celsius. Heavy rain likely in northern West Bengal till Aug 10
Agency: PTI Kolkata, Aug 4 (PTI) Heavy rain is likely in the sub-Himalayan districts of West Bengal till August 10 owing to active monsoon flow, the IMD said. Some southern West Bengal districts are also likely to get heavy rain till August 7, it said. Owing to the active monsoon flow and strong moisture incursion, widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over the northern districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Coochbehar till August 10.
