Known for her powerful roles on-screen, Fatima Sana Shaikh has often played characters who display grit and strength. But in real life, the actress has been quietly fighting a battle that few knew about—epilepsy. As she gears up for her upcoming releases, Metro In Dino opposite Ali Fazal and Aap Jaisa Koi with R. Madhavan, Fatima is finally shedding light on the health challenge that nearly turned her life upside down. In a deeply personal conversation with Humans of Bombay, the actress opened up about one of the most terrifying moments of her life—a major seizure attack mid-air on a flight to the U.S.
Fatima revealed that while travelling to the USA via Dubai, she experienced multiple seizures on the plane. She was rushed to the airport hospital immediately upon landing, but the situation kept worsening. Despite being given medication, her seizures wouldn't stop. Doctors were forced to administer a heavy dose of another drug, but instead of offering relief, it triggered further complications. Fatima explained that in epilepsy treatment, medication changes need to be done gradually. 'You have to wean off one before starting another,' she said, pointing out how the sudden switch had a devastating effect on her body and mind.
The aftermath was brutal. Fatima was left sedated, unable to function, and emotionally drained. The episode derailed not just her health but also her professional life. She had to walk away from two major film projects—Meghna Gulzar's Sam Bahadur and Dhak Dhak. 'I had to cancel shoot,' she recalled. When a producer called to check on her availability, she broke down in tears, struggling to even get out of bed.The experience became a major turning point in Fatima's life. She came to terms with her diagnosis and began speaking about it more openly, hoping to break the stigma around neurological disorders like epilepsy. She credits support groups and open conversations for helping her find stability.Netflix has unveiled the trailer for Aap Jaisa Koi, a heartfelt family drama starring R Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh. Sara Ali Khan admits trolling affects her mother Amrita Singh emotionally: ‘I feel very bad... my mom feels bad when she reads about it'

Sara Ali Khan is no stranger to trolling. From her film choices to her physical appearance, the actress, like many star kids in the industry, has faced her share of online hate. But in a recent interview, Sara admitted that while she's learnt to take the negativity in her stride, it's her mother Amrita Singh who finds it harder to ignore. Speaking to Instant Bollywood, Sara shared how she copes with social media scrutiny, acknowledging that it often affects her mother emotionally. 'It's very wrong. I feel very bad. My mom feels bad when she reads about it. What will I do about it? I can't change it. I can feel bad, but you just have to move on,' she said candidly. Sara reflected on how people online continue to write insensitive and critical things, regardless of their accuracy or impact. 'Wrong karke kya kar loge? Aap rok doge? Koi likhna bandh kar dega? It's not going to stop. So really, what is the point?' she asked rhetorically. Learning to be thick-skinned Despite being under constant public scrutiny, Sara said she's come to terms with the fact that this is part of being a public figure. 'You just have to be thick-skinned. Mom's new vocabulary is thick-skinned,' she shared with a smile. Fatima Sana Shaikh and Vijay Varma are fuelling fresh dating rumours, just months after Vijay's reported breakup with Tamannaah Bhatia. The duo was recently spotted at a Mumbai café, and fans have been quick to link them, especially with their upcoming film Ul Jalool Ishq on the horizon. Now, Fatima has posted a series of photos from the Umrao Jaan premiere, two of which include Vijay. The pictures, shared on Fatima's Instagram, featured her with Rekha and Vijay. In a heartfelt caption, Fatima wrote, 'Watched Umrao Jaan on the big screen.. and what a surreal experience it was. Every time Rekhaji appeared, all of us gasped. While neither Fatima nor Vijay has confirmed their relationship, fans are connecting the dots from their outings to their film pairing and even their FTII roots. Speculation is rife that sparks may have flown during the shoot of Ul Jalool Ishq, in which Fatima stars opposite Vijay under the direction of Vibhu Puri. While Tamannaah focused on work, including promotions for Jailer, Vijay stayed away from the limelight until now. Meanwhile, Fatima, during the trailer launch of her upcoming film Aap Jaisa Koi, was asked if there was a special someone in her life. She responded cheekily, 'No one is there. No good guys. They exist only in films." First Published: June 27, 2025, 00:43 IST
