THE golden voice behind hits like Kekasih Awal Dan Akhir is now hoping to expand his cattle farming to selling burgers, minced meat and meatballs, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Datuk Jamal Abdillah, 66, said he started a commercial cattle farm in 2023 after his previous farm in Bagan Serai, Perak, was well received by customers.
Having begun with 25 cows on a 2ha field, he said his commercial farm now has many more cows, motivating him to work harder.
'I plan to expand my business to manufacturing food products using beef, like burgers, minced meat and meatballs.'
Jamal also said that he has started rearing goats and ornamental fish at his farms which he said had great potential to meet market demand.
His plan is to sell his products in Teluk Intan, Perak, as it is his hometown.
He also spoke of his fondness for giant freshwater prawns from Sungai Perak.
'The taste is different,' he said.
> For four-year-old Nur Aisya Khadeeja, her world has been one of silence. Her father, Muhamad Razmein Abdullah, first noticed his only child was non-verbal about two years ago.
'We noticed she was unable to speak and was unresponsive to sounds,' he told Harian Metro.
Muhamad Razmein, 30, was distraught when medical tests revealed narrowed auditory nerves in both of Nur Aisya's ears, severely impacting her hearing.
Even with hearing aids, her condition barely improved.
'Doctors have recommended cochlear implant surgery, but we can't afford it due to the high cost which can go up to RM115,000,' said Muhamad Razmein, a delivery rider.
His wife Haslinda Mohd Zamidi, 35, works as an administrative officer.
The family, who live in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, has only managed to save about RM5,000 for the surgery, which is scheduled for July 17.
For now, a charity organisation is collecting funds for the family.

Bursa ends higher on tariff truce

Rakuten Trade's Thong said major Asian indices also trended positively. PETALING JAYA: Bursa Malaysia extended its upward momentum to close higher, boosted by news of the United States' decision to extend its 90-day tariff truce with China until Nov 10, which lifted market sentiment. At 5pm, the FBM KLCI rose 4.66 points, or 0.30%, to close at 1,567.90 from Monday's close of 1,563.24. Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice-president of equity research Thong Pak Leng said major Asian indices also trended positively as investors welcomed news that the United States and China had agreed to extend their tariff truce by 90 days, avoiding steep duties. 'The deal maintains existing US tariffs at 30% and Chinese tariffs at 10%, providing additional time for negotiations and lifting investor sentiment across the region,' he told Bernama.

China, Egypt launch poultry farming training program to empower rural Egyptian women

CAIRO, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Embassy in Egypt, together with local partners, has launched a poultry farming training program in Egypt's Menoufia Governorate to help rural women gain practical skills and boost household incomes. Organized in partnership with the Egyptian National Alliance for Civil Development Work and Chinese agricultural firm New Hope Liuhe Co., Ltd., the program shares Chinese agricultural expertise in the effective management of poultry farming cycles. Aya Abdeen, a technical manager and veterinary doctor at New Hope Egypt, said the training covers the essential aspects of the poultry rearing process, especially for Sasso chickens, from the day-old chick phase through to the point of sale in the market. During the launch ceremony on Monday, Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang said the training program is "an innovative practice to support Egypt's poverty alleviation efforts and empower rural women, enhancing the mutual understanding between the Chinese and Egyptian peoples." Sabah Mohamed Abdel-Salam, a 47-year-old widow and one of the project's beneficiaries, said the project is "a great opportunity to earn income from home while caring for my family." "I believe it will help me raise poultry, increase their number, and support my children without leaving the house," she added.

AI startup Perplexity makes bold $34.5 billion bid for Google's Chrome browser

FILE PHOTO: Perplexity AI application icon is seen in this illustration taken January 4, 2024. REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo (Reuters) -Perplexity AI said it has made a $34.5 billion unsolicited all-cash offer for Alphabet's Chrome browser, a low but bold bid that would need financing well above the startup's own valuation. Run by Aravind Srinivas, Perplexity is no stranger to headline-grabbing offers - it made a similar one for TikTok US in January, offering to merge with the popular short-video app to resolve U.S. concerns about TikTok's Chinese ownership. Buying Chrome would allow the startup to tap the browser's more than three billion users for an edge in the AI search race as regulatory pressure threatens Google's grip on the industry. Google did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. The company has not offered Chrome for sale and plans to appeal a U.S. court ruling last year that found it held an unlawful monopoly in online search. The Justice Department has sought a Chrome divestiture as part of the case's remedies. Perplexity did not disclose on Tuesday how it plans to fund the offer. The three-year-old company has raised around $1 billion in funding so far from investors including Nvidia and Japan's SoftBank. It was last valued at $14 billion. Multiple funds have offered to finance the deal in full, a person familiar with the matter said, without naming the funds. As a new generation of users turns to chatbots such as ChatGPT and Perplexity for answers, web browsers are regaining prominence as vital gateways to search traffic and prized user data, making them central to Big Tech's AI ambitions. Perplexity already has an AI browser, Comet, that can perform certain tasks on a user's behalf and acquiring Chrome would give it the heft to better compete against bigger rivals such as OpenAI. The ChatGPT parent has also expressed interest in buying Chrome and is working on its own AI browser. Perplexity's bid pledges to keep the underlying browser code called Chromium open source, invest $3 billion over two years and make no changes to Chrome's default search engine, according to a term sheet seen by Reuters. The company said the offer, with no equity component, would preserve user choice and ease future competition concerns. Analysts have said Google would be unlikely to sell Chrome and would likely engage in a long legal fight to prevent that outcome, given it is crucial to the company's AI push as it rolls out features including AI-generated search summaries, known as Overviews, to help defend its search market share. A federal judge is expected to issue a ruling on remedies in the Google search antitrust case sometime this month. Perplexity's bid is also below the at least $50 billion value that rival search engine DuckDuckGo's CEO, Gabriel Weinberg, suggested Chrome may command if Google was forced to sell it. Besides OpenAI and Perplexity, Yahoo and private-equity firm Apollo Global Management have also expressed interest in Chrome. (Reporting by Akash Sriram in Bengaluru; Editing by Devika Syamnath)
