NHAI takes action against contractor, engineer for poor quality work
NHAI in a statement said an incident of distressed condition of pavement crust at some locations of six-lane Sanchore – Santalpur Section of Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor (NH–754K) in Gujarat (Pkg-4 from Kilana to Santalpur) constructed by CDS Infra Projects Limited (Contractor) was reported.
New Delhi, Jul 3 (PTI) State-owned NHAI on Thursday said it has suspended a contractor, an authority engineer and an NHAI official for the distressed condition of pavement at some locations on the Amritsar-Jamnagar Corridor section in Gujarat.
A show cause notice for debarment and levy of monetary penalty of Rs 2.8 crore has also been issued, it added.
The statement further said the authority's engineer (SA Infra in association with Upham) has also been debarred on immediate basis from participating in ongoing/ future bids and a show cause notice for debarment has been issued.
NHAI project director, Palanpur, has been placed on suspension, it said.
Expert Committees with Retd. and current Prof. of IIT-BHU, IIT-Delhi, IIT- Gandhinagar have been constituted for analysing the failure of Pavement Crust. Expert Committees are visiting the site, collecting samples to undertake tests and recommend detailed remedial measures to be taken.

An F-35B Lightening jet of the British Royal Navy made an emergency landing at Thiruvananthapuram Airport on 14 June. Considered one of the most advanced fighter jets across the globe, the aircraft sought permission from Indian authorities to land in Kerala after a technical glitch. The incident occurred when the fighter jet was conducting routine flying outside Indian ADIZ with Thiruvananthapuram earmarked as the emergency recovery airfield. The Indian Air Force on June 14 confirmed that a British jet made an emergency landing in Kerala due to technical issues. In a statement, the IAF said, 'A Royal Navy F-35B fighter recovered off an emergency landing at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on the night of 14 June 25. Operating from UK Aircraft Carrier, HMS Prince of Wales, it was undertaking routine flying outside Indian ADIZ with Thiruvananthapuram earmarked as the emergency recovery airfield.' Offering assistance, the air force said, 'On having declared a diversion off an emergency, the F-35 B was detected and identified by the IAF's IACCS network and cleared for the recovery. IAF is providing all necessary support for the rectification and subsequent return of the aircraft.' The Royal Navy jet, which landed in Kerala last month and is worth $110 million, was moved to the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Thiruvananthapuram Airport after the Indian Air Force offered to assist UK in repairing the engineering issue. A spokesperson of the British High Commission said on June 27, 'The aircraft will be moved to the hangar once UK engineering teams arrive with specialist equipment, thereby ensuring minimal disruption to scheduled maintenance of other aircraft.' UK is sending a team of aviation experts, engineers and officials to Kerala's capital city on Saturday, July 5, to make necessary repairs to the fighter jet, after which it can be brought back to British Royal Navy base. No timeline has been given yet on how long it will take to repair the jet and fly it out. Encroached land in Bukkapatna sanctuary recovered
BENGALURU: The Karnataka Forest Department on Thursday recovered 300 acres of encroached land in Bukkapatna Chinkara Wildlife Sanctuary in Tumakuru district. The land recovered is in Survey No. 46 in Muthugadahalli Ambarpur and was declared as forest land in 1926 under the Forest Rights Act. According to forest department records, this is the largest recovery of forest land in recent times. On June 23, the forest department recovered 120 acres of forest land in Kadugodi plantation worth Rs 4,000 crore. However, the highest ever forest land recovery was in 2013—600 acres in Kolar, followed by 355 acres in Mallur in 2014. Conservator of Forests V Yedukondalu told The New Indian Express that the land was illegally granted to villagers by revenue department officials over the last 30 years. Though people were not residing there, agricultural activities had been taken up for years. Farmers were growing coconut, cotton, arecanut, cowpea, and other crops. 'Following the recently issued Lokayukta directives and Supreme Court and Karnataka High Court orders, we asked the revenue department officials of the division to cancel the illegal records, and 64(A) proceedings were initiated (under Section 64(A) of the Karnataka Forest Act of 1963, and the eviction notice is issued to people illegally occupying land before recovering the land). Documents that we obtained showed that most of the land was illegally occupied, and on Thursday, the entire land parcel was recovered,' he said. Forest department officials said that the exercise of digging pits to lay trenches and undertake plantations suitable for blackbucks has started. 'The sanctuary (also known as the Black Buck Sanctuary, founded in 2019) is spread across 36,000 acres and includes three reserve forests. There are many more land parcels around the forest division that are also being recovered. The exercise has started,' Yedukondalu said.
