WEST LAFAYETTE - Purdue commit Sam Carraher, a senior from Crown Point, found comfort and excitement in the large crowd that surrounded him while being paired with Charlie Woods.
Not only did they watch Woods play high-level golf, but they also got to see Carraher as well.
And with those eyes watching, Carraher delivered on the big stage.
Carraher sat in seventh place after finishing -10 and shot 69 in the third round, entering the final round of the Junior PGA Championship.

"My game feels really good," Carraher said. "I felt like I played really good yesterday. Today, just keep the momentum going, hit some really good shots. I battled through some adversity, but hopefully I can make some really nice putts."
Laughter shared by Carraher and Woods was a gentle reminder in one of the most prestigious amateur golf tournaments in the world that both boys, living in different parts of the country, are still regular teenagers.
"(Charlie Woods) is an awesome player and he's an awesome kid," Carraher said. "He's won a few tournaments, and he played awesome (Thursday), and he's a kid just like u,s grinding out here. He's really cool, he's funny, and it was fun getting to know him."
Several shots have caught the attention of fans, including his near eagle on the fourth hole on Thursday.
His father, Ron, was heard in the background trying his best to contain the excitement as oooohs and ahhhs from the crowd delighted in the 5-foot-9 senior from "The Region".
"I couldn't see the pin too well, and I thought I heard some claps," Carraher said. "I just try to stay really level-headed," Carraher said. "I try not to stay too high on the highs or low on the lows. I just go out there and have fun."

Carraher will attempt to capture the Junior PGA Championship trophy and will be joined by Ronin Banerjee of Irvine, CA, with whom he was paired on Thursday, and Luke Balaskiewicz of Jacksonville, Florida.
The winner and runner-up of the Junior PGA Championship will receive an automatic invite to join the US Junior Ryder Cup team if the winners are in the high school class of 2026 or younger.
"My swing feels really good, my putting feels really good," Carraher said. "I just want to keep these feelings going, just stay focused and go out there and prove it to myself."

O'Reilly Auto Parts will take over as title sponsor for NASCAR's second-tier series

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — O'Reilly Auto Parts will take over as the title sponsor for NASCAR's second-tier national series when the Xfinity Series is renamed next season. The multiyear partnership announced Monday is a sponsorship package that includes promotional opportunities and brand integrations with The CW Network, which is the exclusive broadcast partner for that series. The renaming will take effect on Jan. 1. 'Partnering with NASCAR and The CW at this level enables us to further deepen our connection to one of the most loyal fanbases in all of sports,' said Hugo Sanchez, O'Reilly Auto Parts vice president of advertising and marketing. 'This agreement builds on our long-term involvement in NASCAR and our dedication to the fans who love cars as much as we do.' O'Reilly Auto Parts becomes the fourth title sponsor in the series' history. It was launched as the Busch Series in 1982, had a seven-year run with Nationwide Insurance and Xfinity has been the title sponsor the last 11 years. 'Like the great sport of NASCAR, O'Reilly Auto Parts was born in America and built on the hard work and drive of passionate people,' NASCAR President Steve O'Donnell said. 'This new partnership allows us to continue to fuel that passion for the next generation of NASCAR's stars and fans while celebrating the journey we've been on together for decades.' O'Reilly Auto Parts was founded in Springfield, Missouri, in 1957 as a single store and today is an automotive parts powerhouse with more than 6,400 locations across 48 states, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Canada. For several years it was the title sponsor of NASCAR races at Daytona, Texas and Mid-Ohio. 'Our company is rooted in the same values that define NASCAR — teamwork, enthusiasm and dedication,' O'Reilly Auto Parts President Brent Kirby said. 'You'll see those in action when our customers walk through our doors. We know they need fast service, and Team O'Reilly will get them the parts they need quickly, with excellent customer service. We welcome all fans to stop by our stores and see how our team can help keep them running.' ___ AP auto racing:

Should Bears fans be excited about Caleb Williams?

Yahoo Sports' Jason Fitz and Caroline Fenton discuss the Bears quarterback's first on-field performance under new head coach Ben Johnson and what it means for expectations in Chicago this season. View more Video Transcript We saw Caleb 6 to 10, 130 in a touchdown, Ben Johnson's offense, the first time we saw him, it was good. It was fine, right? Like I, I want to have some big, huge glowing. It was fine. It was good. Like it was a good outing. And I think we also need to remember that even though the Chicago Bears kind of continued to be the butt of several jokes in the NFL and they were not a good football team last year, Caleb Williams was still good last year. We threw for 3500 yards as a rookie. And I think that stat is made even more impressive, given the fact that a Chicago Bears quarterback has never had a 4,000+ yard season in its history, which is just wild, and Caleb Williams was just 500 yards short of that clip in his first season with the franchise. And look, my takeaway from last night was Chicago Bears fans have every reason to be optimistic and excited about this Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson marriage, because what we saw last night was exciting. It was offensive fireworks. Now, he was going up against the Buffalo Bills' defensive backups. I think there was only one, maybe two starters between the Bills' starting 22 that was out in the field last night. So he's going up against backups. Keep that in mind. Add that to the grain of salt that we always add whenever we talk about preseason games. But 6 to 10, 107 touchdown, he did what he needed to do. If a player is absolute hot garbage and it just looks out of sync and out of whack and terrible, I think that's worth looking at and saying, oh, we have a little pause for concern. Outside of that, there's very little that moves me one way or the other for anybody in preseason because the concepts are so different and the offense is so different, and I get all of that. So I look at it. And say I want to be fair. If Caleb came out and was just awful in the game, we would be turning around saying, is there reason to for concern, especially given the amount of practice footage we've seen where Caleb Williams looked inaccurate, right? Like, I understand it's been a frustrating summer for Bears fans that want to see this explosive moment right out of the gates. It's just a process, and I know I say this too much, I constantly yell at everybody about it. I'll continue to yell on the show because I believe it so much. We are not in the NFL. It's not usually in Ozempic society. You got to do little things right every single day. You can't just suddenly take a pill and all of a sudden your team's better. I think this is going to be a bit of a process for Caleb. Here's what I expect throughout the course of the season. I expect some really good games and then some head-scratching games until it normalizes into what it's gonna be. And I still think it's easy to forget how much we thought of Caleb Williams coming out in the draft. Like there's a reason he was the number one overall pick, even above, gasp, Jayden Daniels. Like there are college football people draft. People, scouts that genuinely believe as hard as it is for us to remember that Caleb Williams has more ability than Jayden Daniels. I, I, I know Jayden took the world by storm, but again, systems matter. Like Jayden had a brilliant Cliff Kingsbury and, and an offense that was built to just sort of, uh, to, to week by week give him more responsibility and more opportunity. I hope Caleb gets that now. And I hope Caleb comes out and is better than Jayden Daniels through all of it because frankly, that's a great story for the city of Chicago that's never had that quarterback. Close
