In Friday's exciting, music-filled finale for Season 17 of RuPaul's Drag Race, Cleveland drag queen and season frontrunner Onya Nurve was crowned America's Next Drag Superstar—reclaiming the coveted moniker from Season 16 winner Nymphia Wind.
"I have nothing to prove to anybody," Onya told Newsweek during a pre-finale interview with the top four queens. "I've done it, I've proved it. I'm a good drag queen."
The finale kicked off with a sickening runway walk showcasing all of Season 17's contestants, from first-eliminated Lucky Starzzz to last-eliminated Suzie Toot, as well as the top four queens: Jewels Sparkles, Lexi Love, Onya Nurve and Sam Star.

Some queens harkened back to their notable looks from the show, like Joella with her iconic mattress look, while others stunned in a completely new style, like Suzie Toot in her incredible Little Shop of Horrors-inspired carnivorous plant ensemble.
Each of the top queens then performed an original song and choreographed dance number, followed by a short interview with RuPaul reflecting about their journey on the show.
Jewels's physical comedy-centric routine had everyone laughing, Lexi brought back her classic roller skates and Sam even walked her own red carpet, but it was Onya who truly brought the house down. Her disco performance of "It's Onya Nurve" impressed the judges, with Michelle Visage complimenting her "beautiful" voice and Jamal Sims highlighting her "It Factor"—a sentiment also shared by former guest judge Quinta Brunson.
"Cleveland lost LeBron James, but they got Onya Nurve," Onya told the crowd during the episode. "I think I would be a perfect representation for this crown, and I could show other entertainers that look just like me dreams do come true."

Following the top queens' performances, former Miss Congeniality winners Sapphira Cristál and Xunami Muse relinquished their title to Crystal Envy, and the production honored Liza Minelli with a tribute performance for her "Giving Us Life-time Achievement Award."
Ultimately, the top four queens took the stage for the last time, appearing before RuPaul for the final deliberations. After narrowing the top two to Jewels and Onya, the two queens battled in a lip synch for the crown to Lady Gaga's "Abracadabra".
Following a truly epic performance from both contestants, RuPaul crowned Onya the winner of Season 17—naming her America's Next Drag Superstar. Along with $200,000 in prize money from TodayTix, Onya's title cements her place in the halls of Drag Race "herstory".

Woman Asked to Dog Sit—but There's a Problem: 'Not Safe'

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A woman's first day of dog sitting took an unexpected turn when her furry companion strongly resisted having a leash put on. In a TikTok video, the creator captured the confusing facial expression—somewhere between a scowl and a growl—that the dog made every time she tried to come close to her with her leash. Newsweek spoke to professional dog trainer Ali Smith about the dog's behavior and how the new sitter can take on the challenge. "Dog sitting day one and she won't let me put her leash on," the creator captioned the video. "That collar took me abt 2 hours to put on I sat on the couch and she finally came up to me and let me put it on." A dog growls on the couch with its owner. A dog growls on the couch with its video shows the dog making a threatening face each time the sitter approaches, making it clear she was not thrilled about the process. The clip resonated with many TikTok users, who offered varied perspectives on the dog's behavior. "Call the owners," a top-liked comment read. "This is not safe behavior!" But another commenter noted the importance of distinguishing between genuine aggression and a dog's quirky expressions. "For me, it depends on whether they're growling or are showing physical signs that they don't want to," they wrote. "I have a dog that I dog-sit and she looks terrifying, but that's just her grinning 'hello.'" Another user jokingly wished their dog had similar self-preservation instincts: "I wish my dog had boundaries like this. She would literally let anybody take her." An Expert Weighs In Newsweek spoke to Smith, CEO and founder at Rebarkable, a puppy-training platform, about the different perspectives on the situation and why the dog might be resistant to the leash. She offered expert insight into why a dog might react negatively to a collar or leash—even with someone familiar. "There are two core reasons that a dog can be weird about a collar, or any piece of equipment," Smith explained. "That's, one, a lack of familiarity [and] two, poor associations with the collar." She added that the lack of familiarity is usually addressed in puppyhood through the process of socialization. Poor association, on the other hand, is simply learned over time. The pup in the video's aversion could have to do with anything related to the collar—even the sound of the buckle, she said. Smith elaborated on how negative experiences can shape a dog's perception: "Similar to how our dogs often learn vets means bad things happen, if a dog gets 'corrected' via a collar, or physically moved with a collar or similar, they can swiftly build negative associations." For those facing similar challenges to the creator, she offered practical advice to ease the process. "Don't always aim for getting the collar on," she advised. "Even showing pup the collar and them not running away can be a good thing. Reward heavily with tasty treats or play, and you'll start seeing your dog's uncertainty of their collar disappear." What Preschooler Says During Acting Audition Leaves Mom Speechless

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Let's be honest—most adults have stretched the truth at least once to land a job. But one preschooler may have taken it to the next level. A recent survey by StandOut-CV of 2,012 U.S. adults revealed that more than three in five respondents (64.2%) admitted to lying on their resume at least once. But resume embellishments aren't just for grown-ups. When Harlyn Brielle was just four years old when she improvised during an acting audition - in a desperate bid to get the role. Her mom, Bree, 33, recently shared the clip on Instagram (@breenotacomedian), where it quickly went viral, amassing over 1.9 million views. "We rehearsed the commercial every day for weeks and she did that part perfectly," she told Newsweek. "But when we got to the questions, she had her own agenda." Instagram/@breenotacomedian During the virtual interview, Harlyn was asked whether she could speak any other languages. Without missing a beat, she confidently replied, "Yes," then proceeded to invent her own language on the spot—before wrapping up the impromptu answer by repeatedly saying "gracias" in Spanish. Bree, who had spent weeks rehearsing the commercial script with Harlyn, was caught completely off guard. "We rehearsed the commercial every day for weeks and she did that part perfectly," she told Newsweek. "But when we got to the questions, she had her own agenda." Trying to keep things on track, Bree gently clarified to the interviewer that her daughter could do accents, not speak other languages. But Harlyn wasn't about to let go of her narrative, doubling down on her claim with even more Spanish flair. Unfortunately, the audition—allegedly for a cereal brand—turned out to be a scam. Bree discovered the red flag when the organizers asked for money. "When I told Harlyn, her response was, 'No way we're paying them. I'm the star—they should pay me!'" Bree recalled. Although that particular opportunity didn't pan out, Harlyn, now seven, has since landed a small role in the film Girl in the Closet. Determined to support her daughter's acting ambitions, Bree even created an Instagram page dedicated to her budding career: @harlynbrielle. "Harlyn is one of those kids where I never know what's going to come out of her mouth," Bree said. "As a Virgo, she's bold, confident, and—if you ask her— she's always right!" Online audiences seem to agree. The original video, posted on May 6, has garnered more than 165,000 likes and many users can relate to the text layered over the clip. It says: "When you lie on the job application [and] say you're bilingual to try [and] get the job." "I checked the bilingual box on an Indeed app and listed 'mildly conversant' on my resume. I got the job and ended up answering phones while googling responses!" resonated one user. "This is what real confidence looks like. I hope she keeps it forever," complimented another and a third pointed out: "Her mom was just as surprised as we all were."

Orlando Bloom Teases Pirates of the Caribbean Return With Johnny Depp

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors It's been eight years since the last "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, but in spite of everything that's happened in the interim, Orlando Bloom seems hopeful that more movies are forthcoming. As reported by Collider, Bloom was promoting "Deep Cover" on ITV's "This Morning" when the question came up of Bloom once more playing Will Turner. The "Lord of the Rings" star expressed hope not only for his own return, but for the rest of "the band." Read More: 'Predator' Director Hints at Arnold Schwarzenegger Return "Well, I don't know, I can't say anything at the moment because I really don't know, but there's definitely availability," Bloom said. "I think they're trying to work out what it would all look like, I personally think it'd be great to get the band back together. That would be great, but there are always different ideas, and so we'll see where it lands." By getting "the band back together," Bloom presumably means not just himself, but former "Pirates" co-stars Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp. Depp is possibly the biggest wild card in the question of whether or not "the band" could ever get back together. Not only have studios still seemed a little hesitant to cast the controversial star, but Depp himself famously stated he wouldn't work for Disney again "for $300 million and a million alpacas." Still, nothing is impossible, and in the case of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, Disney has a lot of reasons to potentially revive the franchise. All told, the combined five "Pirates" movies pulled in a global box office of $4.5 billion. While Depp appeared in all five films, Bloom and Knightley only briefly appear in the fifth film, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales", and skipped the fourth, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides". Bloom is no stranger to big adventure franchises or to returning to them after a break. He reprised the role of elf archer Legolas for Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" trilogy and it's possible he might be coming back again. "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" is set to be released December 17, 2027, and Bloom could very well be one of the franchise favorites to return along with Andy Serkis.
