Leader Live27-04-2025

Thanks to Leyton Orient beating 3rd place Wycombe Wanderers in the 12:30 kick off, Wrexham knew a win against Charlton Athletic would secure back to back to back promotions.
With so much on the line, the fans flocked to the Lager Club ready for a march to the ground to back the boys.
Nearly 1000 supporters joined the march to the ground, which included a number of smoke bombs that took over Mold Road.

Once in the ground, Co-chairmen Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds made an appearance, delighting fans as they stopped for selfies and spoke to people about the club and the possible promotion.

On the pitch, Wrexham knew what they needed to do and won the game 3-0, leading to thousands of people running onto the hallowed turf for the third year in a row.
Players were flung on shoulders, smoke bombs were set off, and Wrexham fans celebrated the historic achievement with the squad.

Once the players went down the tunnel to celebrate together, attention turned towards the owner's box, fans serenaded the duo with the Declan Swans hit Always Sunny In Wrexham.
As the stewards tried to clear the pitch, fans were soaking every moment, people crying, taking the same photos they had taken each time the side had gained promotion, and children stealing grass and doing knee slides.

Once fans left the pitch, the players, coaching staff, families and the owners made their way back on the pitch to lift the trophy.
Many players were serenaded with their individual song, but one moment that stood out was Paul Mullin enjoying his song with the fans, after a tough season.
As the stadium emptied, everyone made their way to the pubs and bars around the stadium, with Town are going up being heard from every angle.
Wrexham fans will now look forward to a party away at Lincoln City on Saturday, followed by their first season in the Championship since 1982.

Steven Gerrard favourite for Championship job that would see him replace former team-mate as manager

STEVEN GERRARD is the bookies' favourite to become Middlesbrough's next manager. The Liverpool legend has been out of work since leaving Al-Ettifaq in January. 1 He was linked with a return to Rangers but pulled out of the race before Russell Martin was appointed. Instead his return to management could come at Championship side Middlesbrough. If he gets the job he will succeed his former England team-mate Michael Carrick, who was sacked last week. Gerrard, 45, is the bookies' favourite to take over at the Riverside Stadium, ahead of Rob Edwards and Steve Cooper. It appears the former Three Lions star is keen on a return to the UK after an ill-fated spell in the Middle East. Gerrard lasted just 18 months at Al-Ettifaq and won 23 of his 59 matches in charge. That stint came after he was sacked at Aston Villa following a return of two wins in the opening 12 games of the 2022-23 Premier League season. His best reign came at Rangers, where he oversaw the club's first league title for nine years in 2021. He accumulated 102 points and went unbeaten in the Scottish Premier League, ending Celtic 's period of dominance. Gerrard won 65 per cent of his games in charge at Ibrox.

Wrexham 'in talks with outgoing Leicester star on free transfer' as Welsh club eye up Premier League additions this summer

Wrexham are in talks to sign Wales goalkeeper Danny Ward on a free transfer following his departure from Leicester City, according to a report. The 31-year-old will leave the King Power Stadium when his deal expires at the end of the season. He has attracted the interest of the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney-owned club. Ward made just five appearances in all competitions for the Foxes last term as the side were relegated to the Championship. A move to Wrexham, who will be playing in the second tier next term after three successive promotions, will see Ward return to the club where he came through as a youngster, though he never made a senior appearance for the side. According to Sky Sports' Rob Dorsett, the Welshman is in negotiations with the club over a move. Wrexham are keen to add Premier League quality to their ranks this summer and have been linked with the likes of Ben Davies, Danny Ings and Tom Cairney. On Sunday, Mail Sport reported that the side are still interested in signing Davies despite Tottenham exercising their option to extend the defender's contract by 12 months at the weekend. Davies has been a Spurs player since 2014 and he featured in 28 games under Ange Postecoglou last season, despite not being a member of the manager's first-choice XI. Davies has played 358 games for Tottenham in total, operating both as a left back and a central defender. Davies recently saw his contract extended until June 2026, which means Wrexham would likely need to pay Spurs a modest transfer fee to land him this summer. Tottenham's willingness to let Davies leave could depend on whether or not they are successful in their attempts to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson looks set for a busy summer following his side's promotion from League One to the Championship. Davies has never played below the top tier of English football, having been a Premier League player for his entire club career to date. The 32-year-old made 71 Premier League appearances for Swansea between 2012 and 2014. He has played a further 242 Premier League games for Spurs.
