Crunchyroll Drops ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — Infinity Castle' Trailer, Launching the Franchise's Three-Part Cinematic Finale
Based on the manga by Koyoharu Gotoge, the upcoming film adapts the climactic Infinity Castle arc, picking up where the 'Hashira Training' arc left off. After Muzan Kibutsuji launches a surprise attack, Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps are pulled into the demons' stronghold. The trailer reveals new footage and highlights the high-stakes confrontation that will bring the series to its conclusion.

Directed by Haruo Sotozaki and produced by ufotable, the film also debuts two original theme songs: 'A World Where the Sun Never Rises' by Aimer and 'Shine in the Cruel Night' by LiSA. Both tracks will be released on global streaming platforms on July 18.
The 'Demon Slayer' franchise stands out as one of the most commercially successful anime IPs to date. The 2020 feature film 'Mugen Train' grossed over $500 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time and the top-earning R-rated animated film globally. In the U.S., it earned nearly $50 million at the box office, setting a new standard for anime in theatrical release.
Beyond ticket sales, the franchise has generated billions in revenue from manga sales, music, merchandise and streaming. It has become a key title for Crunchyroll, which has invested heavily in theatrical anime distribution as part of Sony's expanding anime strategy.
'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,' the series, is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll, and multiple albums and orchestral concert recordings from the series are available on global platforms.
The Infinity Castle trilogy is sure to draw strong interest from anime fans and mainstream moviegoers alike, continuing the franchise's success both in Japan and abroad.

Crunchyroll ran embarrassingly bad ChatGPT subtitles on its new anime series
The subtitles for one of Crunchyroll's newest anime series make it pretty clear that the company is going all in on ChatGPT. This week as viewers logged on to Crunchyroll to check out Studio Gokumi's Necronomico and the Cosmic Horror Show, many were surprised to see that the series' subtitles were filled with typos, grammatical errors, and explicit references to ChatGPT. The subtitles seemed very much like text that had been generated with AI and slapped onto Necronomico and the Cosmic Horror Show without first being reviewed and edited for accuracy. Errors in subtitles aren't unheard of, but sentences like 'Is gameorver. if you fall, you are out' are an entirely different kind of bad. And the fact that some of the subtitles literally start with 'ChatGPT said,' all but confirms that the text was generated with AI. Crunchyroll has been open about its desire to use AI as it focused on becoming more of a lifestyle brand. But this situation is decidedly at odds with Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini's past comments about the company having no plans to use AI to produce its programming. Speaking to Forbes back in April, Purini said that Crunchyroll was 'not considering AI in the creative process' out of a desire to maintain the authenticity of its series and films. Purini also stressed that Crunchyroll would not use AI in ways that would impact voice actors. But Purini said that the company was actively looking into ways that it could use AI to improve discoverability, recommendations, and personalization. Crunchyroll did not respond to our questions about how Necronomico and the Cosmic Horror Show's subtitles are produced and what sort of steps the company takes to prevent errors like this from making it into shows. Everything about this fiasco speaks to the important role that translators and localization teams play in producing quality art that's consumed by audiences across the role. This also highlights the pitfalls of the entertainment industry's rush to embrace generative AI while putting real peoples' jobs at risk. From Crunchyroll's perspective, using ChatGPT to churn out subtitles as quickly as possible might seem like a good idea in terms of making it easier to get shows streaming shortly after their Japanese debuts. But subtitles this poorly written make for a worse watching experience and are anything but 'authentic.'

John Legend Has ‘No Regrets' About His Early Work With Ye, Even If He's Become a ‘Force of Hate'
John Legend is opening up about his relationship with Ye. The singer sat down with Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning to promote the North American leg of his 40-city world tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his debut album Get Lifted and was asked about some of the comments his longtime collaborator (formerly Kanye West) has said about him. Fridays, all the things that happen during the first 10 years of his career, just thrilling and to be part of that was amazing. I have no regrets. Even though he's gone completely left now, I'm so glad that we did what we did together.'
