New Delhi, Aug 17 (PTI) Yash Dhull smashed a scintillating century to guide Central Delhi Kings to 15-run victory over North Delhi Strikers in a rain-curtailed Delhi Premier League (DPL) match here.
After Dhull's century helped the Kings to set a mammoth 198-run target in the game which was reduced to 16 overs per side, the Strikers got of to a brilliant start on Saturday.
Openers Sarthak Ranjan (52 off 26) and Arnav Bugga (43 off 13) stitched an 85-run partnership inside five overs before the latter departed after smashing five fours and three sixes.
However, as the innings progressed, Central Delhi Kings fought back, making timely breakthroughs and slowing down the momentum.
Key wickets at crucial junctures, including the dismissals of Sarthak Ranjan, Yajas Sharma, Yash Dabas, and Vaibhav Kandpal halted the charge.
Despite their aggressive approach and brief partnerships, the Strikers fell short as the disciplined bowling attack of Central Delhi Kings held their nerve in the second half of the chase to restrict the Strikers to 182/9 in 16 overs.
The Kings' bowlers, particularly Jonty Sidhu, Simarjeet Singh and Tejas Baroka, played a pivotal role in containing the opposition at critical stages.
Dhull, the former India U19 World Cup-winning captain, compiled a sensational century, scoring 101 runs off 56 balls.
Dhull's masterful knock was studded with eight fours and seven sixes, showcasing measured aggression and controlled stroke play. His innings provided the backbone for the Kings' imposing total.
Yugal Saini's 28-ball 63 further bolstered the innings, as he supported Dhull's dominating display by maintaining a brisk scoring rate throughout the innings.
For the Strikers, Harshit Rana was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged three wickets and gave away just 35 runs in his four overs. Arjun Rapria took a hat-trick but proved to be costly as he conceded 30 runs in two overs.
Brief Scores: Central Delhi Kings 197/7 in 16 overs (Yash Dhull 101, Yugal Saini 63 ; Arjun Rapria 3/30) North Delhi Strikers 182/9 in 16 overs (Sarthak Ranjan: 52, Arnav Bugga 43; Tejas Baroka 2/3). PTI APA DDV

Virat Kohli laughs, giggles with locals during London stroll with Anushka Sharma; sparks fan cry: Cricket lost its bond
Former India captain Virat Kohli and his wife, Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma, were spotted strolling through the streets of London on Sunday. Dressed casually and blending into the crowd, the couple appeared far removed from the crazy fanfare that usually surrounds them in India. They were seen sharing a light-hearted chat and laughter with a local passerby, a moment that quickly went viral on social media. Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma were spotted chatting with locals in London For fans, the sight of Kohli walking freely, without security or attention, during his extended break from competitive cricket, struck a deeply emotional chord. Many described it as a glimpse of 'peace over fame,' while others felt cricket had temporarily lost its most beloved brother. Kohli and Anushka shifted to London after the birth of their second child, Akaay, in February 2024. Earlier in April, Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit's husband, Dr. Sriram Nene, during a conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia on his YouTube show, expressed his admiration for the couple and revealed how Anushka once spoke to him about moving to London to raise their kids in a normal environment. 'I have a lot of respect for him. We've met him multiple times; he's just a decent human being. I'll tell you something, and this is what you learn: they all put their pants on one leg at a time. We had a conversation with Anushka one day, and it was very interesting," Dr Nene said. "They were thinking about moving to London because they can't enjoy their success here. We appreciate what they go through because anything they do attracts attention. We almost become isolated. Anushka and Virat are lovely people, and they just want to raise their kids normally," he added. When will Kohli return to action? The India star recently retired from Test cricket in May, leaving him active only in the ODI format. His future in 50-over cricket had sparked intense speculation, with a media report earlier this month hinting that the Australia tour in October could be his last. That would have ended hopes of Virat Kohli bowing out on the grand stage of the 2027 ODI World Cup. However, the 36-year-old seemingly quashed the chatter when he liked an Instagram post suggesting he was preparing for the Australia series. Kohli last represented India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where he played a pivotal role in the title win in Dubai, before enjoying a triumphant IPL season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Team Indias Squad For Asia Cup 2025: Who Will Lead Indias Pace Attack - Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh
photoDetails english India's Asia Cup 2025 squad announcement has sparked intense debate over the pace attack, with Jasprit Bumrah's fitness remaining the biggest talking point. While Arshdeep Singh is a certain pick, the battle between Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna adds intrigue, especially after Prasidh's Purple Cap-winning IPL 2025 season. Veteran Mohammed Shami is set to miss out again in T20Is, while Harshit Rana could be a surprise inclusion if Bumrah is rested. With selectors also weighing pace-bowling all-rounders, the Asia Cup will not only decide India's bowling strength in UAE conditions but also shape plans for the T20 World Cup 2026. Updated:Aug 18, 2025, 06:00 AM IST 1. Jasprit Bumrah's Fitness Is the Biggest Selection Question 1 / 11 India's premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah remains under an injury cloud. If declared fit, he'll be an automatic starter, but selectors risk overburdening him ahead of the West Indies Test series. 2. Arshdeep Singh Locked In as India's Left-Arm Weapon 2 / 11 Arshdeep Singh has cemented his role in India's T20I setup with consistent new-ball strikes and death-over control, making him a guaranteed pick for the Asia Cup squad. 3. Mohammed Siraj Stakes His Claim After Red-Ball Heroics 3 / 11 Though out of India's T20 plans recently, Mohammed Siraj's form against England could force selectors to bring him back as a reliable seam option alongside Bumrah. 4. Prasidh Krishna's Purple Cap Season Boosts His Chances 4 / 11 IPL 2025 Purple Cap winner Prasidh Krishna is pushing hard for selection. His pace and bounce give India variety, though fitting him in depends largely on Bumrah's availability. 5. Mohammed Shami Missing Out Again in T20Is 5 / 11 Veteran Mohammed Shami looks set to miss another T20I tournament, with selectors prioritizing younger quicks like Arshdeep, Siraj, and Prasidh for the Asia Cup 2025 squad. 6. Harshit Rana a Dark Horse if Bumrah Is Rested 6 / 11 Youngster Harshit Rana could sneak into the squad if Bumrah isn't risked. His IPL breakthroughs make him a strong backup option, though experience may count against him. 7. Selection Likely Between Siraj and Prasidh – Not Both 7 / 11 With squad limits tight, it's likely either Mohammed Siraj or Prasidh Krishna will be picked, unless Bumrah's absence opens space for both. 8. Pace-Bowling All-Rounder Slot Adds Extra Competition 8 / 11 The inclusion of a pace-bowling all-rounder like Shivam Dube or Nitish Kumar Reddy indirectly affects specialist pacer slots, forcing selectors to balance depth with batting options. 9. Bumrah's Availability Could Change Entire Bowling Balance 9 / 11 If Bumrah plays, India can risk one extra spinner or all-rounder. If he misses out, selectors may pick four specialist pacers to maintain firepower in UAE conditions. 10. Asia Cup 2025 Could Define India's T20 World Cup Fast-Bowling Core 10 / 11 Beyond the tournament, these choices will shape India's 2026 T20 World Cup attack. Whether Bumrah leads or rests, the Asia Cup will set the tone for India's pace strategy. 11 / 11

After Six years, three surgeries and recurring health issues, lifter Raja ready for international comeback
CHENNAI: After six years, three surgeries and battling recurring health problems, Tamil Nadu weightlifter M Raja is set to make his international comeback in the Commonwealth Senior, Junior and Youth Championships slated from August 24 to 30 in Ahmedabad. Incidentally, the 2019 Commonwealth Championships held in Apia, Samoa was his last international tournament. An elbow injury sustained during the tournament led to Raja's long exile from the international events. "It's pure coincidence that I am making my international comeback with the Commonwealth Championships," an elated Raja told this daily from Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh, where he is training under head coach Vijay Sharma with other India lifters. Then 19, Raja tore ligament of his right elbow while lifting 123kg in the snatch section during the championships. Ignoring the pain, he tried lifting weights in the clean and jerk section but failed. "I came back and consulted experts in Mumbai and underwent surgery within two days in July. I rehabilitated for six months and was training at NIS Patiala when Covid-19 lockdown was imposed. Before that I used to visit my physio in Delhi regularly but that was stopped due to lockdown. I started training but range of movement in my left elbow remained restricted. Almost one year and three months had passed by then so I requested head coach Vijay sir to let me go to Chennai to continue my treatment," said Raja. He continued treatment in Chennai but that did not yield the desired result. He then went to Pune for rehabilitation after being advised by some of his colleagues and started feeling better. "I regained 90 per cent of my fitness and started preparing for the 2021 national championships. The event got postponed due to the second wave of Covid-19. However, I returned to the national camp and started training. One day I fell off the platform while trying a snatch lift and injured my right thumb. It started troubling my right elbow as well so I again went to Pune and was advised surgery. Raja decided against it as he wanted to compete in the 2021 national championships and also two international tournaments which were qualifiers for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Unfortunately, he finished third in the nationals in the 61kg. He made up for it by winning the trials but his name was struck out of the list for the two international events thus was eventually ruled out of the 2022 CWG.
