Trade Arabia11-04-2025

Amaala, the ultra-luxury wellness and cultural destination taking shape along the Red Sea coast, will host a compelling program of workshops and thought-provoking talks at the prestigious Islamic Art Biennale (IAB) in Jeddah.
Bringing together renowned experts, artists, curators, and thought leaders, Amaala will feature a dynamic public realm enriched with commissioned artworks, key cultural assets across visual and performing arts, as well as a lively calendar of cultural programming reflecting Amaala's commitment to fostering creativity and heritage in Saudi Arabia.
Running from April 12 to mid-May 2025, a series of talks hosted by Amaala in collaboration with Islamic Art Biennale will include Seeds of Connection, Topographies of Heritage, and Biophilia and the Architecture of Wellbeing, each offering unique perspectives on how design, culture and the natural world intertwine. The partnership also features interactive workshops for children and parents, such as The Junkyard Art Factory, which encourages creative thinking by transforming recycled materials into works of art.
Through these discussions, experts will explore how design enhances wellbeing, how nature can be seamlessly integrated into artistic and architectural practices to promote environmental regeneration, and how regional and Islamic architectural principles continue to shape contemporary design. By championing these conversations, Amaala strengthens its vision of creating a destination where wellness, design, art and culture intersect, driving both artistic expression and sustainable innovation.
With its pristine natural surroundings, Amaala is built around the pillars of Environment, Wellbeing, Arts and Culture. While actively protecting and regenerating the ecosystem, it offers a world-class wellness experience set within thoughtfully designed public spaces and architecture. The destination is enriched with high-calibre art commissions that honour local histories, stories and traditions, serving as key cultural assets for both visual and performing arts, alongside a vibrant cultural programme.
Now in its second edition, the Islamic Art Biennale, launched in 2023, has quickly established itself as one of the region's most significant cultural events, celebrating the depth and diversity of Islamic artistic expression under this year's theme, 'And All That Is In Between.' Bringing together contemporary and traditional artists from across the Muslim world and beyond, the exhibition explores the intersection of art, spirituality, and heritage, offering a compelling dialogue on material culture and artistic traditions.
Red Sea Global (RSG), the developer behind Amaala, is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Red Sea region, from its vibrant music and dance traditions to its deep-rooted maritime legacy. Recent initiatives include the Red Sea Waves music album—a sonic tribute to the civilizations that have flourished along the coastline—and the launch of the Red Sea Classic Sailing Race in October, a two-day event showcasing the art of traditional sailboat racing.

Visits To Mecca Landmark Curtailed Over Intense Heat

The visit hours to an Islamic landmark near the Saudi holy city of Mecca have been shortened for months due to extreme heat. The Hira Cultural Centre has cut by five hours daily visits to the Cave of Hira, about 5 kilometres from Mecca, starting from last Wednesday until the commencement of the Islamic lunar month of Rabia I, corresponding to next August. The centre said that the competent authorities had issued directives to temporarily close the road leading to Mount Hira daily from 11am to 4pm because of high temperatures. The Cave of Hira is where the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) received the first revelation of the Holy Quran through the angel Gabriel. The cave is a major draw to Muslims visiting Saudi Arabia to perform the annual Hajj pilgrimage or the Umrah (minor pilgrimage). The weather will be hot to extremely hot at the holy sites during the Hajj rites, the kingdom's meteorology office has forecast, amid diverse projects implemented by the kingdom to cool heat for the faithful. The Saudi National Centre of Meteorology expected that maximum temperatures at the holy sites in and around Mecca will range from 40 to 47 degrees Celsius, with an expected humidity level of 15% to 60%. Saudi Arabia has unveiled a string of projects in the run-up to this year's Hajj that starts later this week to beat the scorching temperatures and spare the pilgrims heat stress. The projects included expanding the use of cooled and rubberized roads designed to reduce the impact of heat.

Saudi Arabia Shortens Friday Sermons And Prayers During Hajj Amid Extreme Heat

Friday sermons and prayers will be shortened during the 2025 Hajj season in Mecca and Medina to help alleviate the effects of extreme summer heat, according to directives issued by Sheikh Abdulrahman Al Sudais, President of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque. The decision is intended to ease physical strain on pilgrims and worshippers, particularly the elderly and those gathered in densely populated areas such as the Mataf (the circumambulation area around the Holy Kaaba), the upper floors, and the open courtyards. It also includes reducing the interval between the call to prayer and the start of the sermon, to further minimise exposure to intense heat. Sheikh Al Sudais stated that the measure reflects the presidency's responsibility to ensure a safe, comfortable, and spiritually uplifting environment for worshippers at the Two Holy Mosques, in line with the leadership's directives and commitment to the well-being of pilgrims. He emphasised that the move aligns with Islamic principles that prioritise the alleviation of hardship, particularly under challenging circumstances such as extreme weather, and considers the arrival of millions of pilgrims from around the world. In his address, Sheikh Al Sudais called on all visitors and pilgrims to diligently fulfil their religious obligations, including prayer, zakat, fasting, and the rites of Hajj. He also urged Muslims to embrace compassion, kindness, and generosity, especially during this sacred time, noting that such values reflect the noble character and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He concluded by encouraging pilgrims to seize the spiritual opportunities of Hajj, drawing benefit for both this life and the hereafter. Source Gulf News
