Goindwal school in-charge suspended for making students serve snacks

Hindustan Times04-05-2025

The school education department on Sunday suspended the in-charge of Government Senior Secondary School, Goindwal, in Tarn Taran district with immediate effect after students were reportedly forced to serve snacks during a function at the school. The order for the suspension of Gurpartap Singh, Punjabi lecturer-cum-school in-charge, was issued by the directorate of school education (secondary) for his alleged 'gross indiscipline and negligence'.
Students were made to serve tea and refreshments to political leaders and others during a recent school function. The incident came to light after a video of it went viral. The department acted on the directions of school education minister Harjot Singh Bains.
The suspension order stated that the school in-charge made the students work as waiters during a function in the school due to which the image of the department was tarnished. During the suspension period, the headquarter of the lecturer will be the office of district education officer (senior secondary), Tarn Taran. In a statement, Bains said that the dignity and respect of students was non-negotiable, adding that such misconduct will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Kerjiwal treats Punjab leaders as second-class citizens: Ashu

Asserting that AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal was treating Punjabi leaders and workers as 'second-class citizens', Punjab Congress working president and party candidate for Ludhiana West Assembly by-election Bharat Bhushan Ashu Monday said his fight was directly against the Delhi leader and no one else.' Addressing several campaign meetings, Ashu said, 'My fight is against Kejriwal and for redeeming the honour and dignity of Punjab, Punjabis and the Punjabiyat.' He said it is the people of Punjab versus the outsiders, adding that 'Kejriwal is the biggest outsider eyeing a Rajya Sabha seat from Punjab'. Ashu said so many leaders in the AAP, who have gone from the Congress, often feel upset over their plight in that party. He said, 'They told me that no matter the rank or position they held in the government or the party, they were treated as second-class citizens and they did not have any say anywhere.' Ashu said not only the people of Punjab, but also the AAP leaders and workers are upset over the fact that everything has been handed over to Delhi. 'So far, about four dozen people from Delhi are running the show, particularly the Chief Minister's Office in Chandigarh,' he said. The senior Congress leader said that Punjabis are self-respecting people who would never tolerate any disrespect to their dignity and honour. 'One of the main reasons I am getting so much support from people was because the AAP had treated Punjab like an occupied territory.' On suggestions that the AAP candidate has been promised to be made a minister, Ashu said, 'First of all, there is no question of him winning. Secondly, I advised him (the AAP candidate) to better cross-check with those who have already been made ministers and how much their writ was running in the government.' He pointed out just a few days ago, an OSD to the Health Minister was appointed from Delhi to run the ministry.

Vote for ‘Viksit Bharat, Viksit Ludhiana', says Union Minister Bittu

Chandigarh: Urging people of Ludhiana West to vote for 'Viksit Bharat, Viksit Punjab, Viksit Ludhiana, Viksit West', Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu said on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'love for Punjab can be gauged from the fact that even as he lost the election from Ludhiana, he was made the Union Minister'. 'The only aim of the BJP government at the Centre is to develop the entire nation. For Punjab, a beginning in this direction can be made from Ludhiana. Look at PM Modi's love for Punjab. Even as I lost the Lok Sabha election from Ludhiana last year, he made me a Union Minister. He did so because he wanted a Punjabi in his Cabinet who can work for Punjab's development. Earlier also there were Sikh faces in his Cabinet such as Hardeep Singh Puri but he wanted someone from Punjab. I urge people of Ludhiana to vote for BJP candidate Jiwan Gupta if they want that Ludhiana should be developed,' said Union Minister Bittu. 'He has not just made me a Minister but given extremely important portfolio like the Railways. Recently, we opened the Chenab Bridge worth Rs 43,000 crore in the border state of Jammu and Kashmir. Punjab is also a border state which deserves such huge projects. The only way to get them is to have BJP in power in Punjab. Otherwise, other states have already raced ahead of us,' he said. Questioning the Aam Aadmi Party's claims of observing simplicity, Union Minister Bittu asked who was footing the huge hotel bills of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Ludhiana during campaigning for the upcoming by-election. He also claimed that CM Mann had occupied a complete floor of the hotel. He said how previous Chief Ministers and even Prime Ministers visiting Ludhiana traditionally stayed at the Circuit House or Sutton House at Punjab Agricultural University. 'Who will pay the hotel bills now as the model election code of conduct is in force,' Union Minister Bittu asked. The Union Minister criticised AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora, claiming he was unable to recall the name of martyr Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha correctly during an event. 'If someone does not even know the names of our martyrs, how can we trust him to uphold and protect the ideals they stood for,' he asked. The bypoll to Ludhiana West Assembly will go to the polls on June 19 and the counting of votes will be held on June 23.
