BIGSOUND unveils its bumper 2025 line-up of new generation artists

We're yearning for Spring and here's a big sniff of it: BIGSOUND is gearing up to take over Meanjin/Brisbane's Fortitude Valley with an absolute smorgasbord of music from more than 120 artists.
The annual music discovery conference and festival is the perfect place to refresh your playlists, find some new favourite bands, check out who's on the rise and rub shoulders with some of the music industry (if that's your thing).
WAFIA, Kaiit, INKABEE, Azure Rider, The Southern River Band and Hatchie are among the featured artists at BIGSOUND this year - each of them coming in off the back of big years that include things like world tours, supporting big artists, playing international festivals, award wins and stints on America's Got Talent .
BIGSOUND's whole line-up spans the whole genre spectrum of music, from rolling country to crunchy electronic music. Whether you're a pop girlie or love to open up the pit at hardcore gigs (or both!) you'll be bound to find something at the festival that you'll fall in love with.
With 18 stages littered across the Valley, BIGSOUND is truly turning Brissy into a music head's playground at the start of September.
Tickets for this year's multi-day musical bonanza are on sale at 9am on Friday 13 June, and you can grab tickets to one or three days of music, or go all-in for the full industry conference experience. Check out the BIGSOUND website for more info.
Suss the full line-up below and get ready to head north for spring!

Stable favourite Olympic Korchnoi will run in Cairns Amateur Cup for trainers Trevor and Peter Rowe

If there is ever a reboot of the classic family film Black Beauty scheduled to be filmed in north Queensland, the Trevor and Peter Rowe -trained gelding Olympic Korchnoi would pass the audition with flying colours. The Brazil-born galloper looks majestic, with his striking black coat and his playful manners making him a stable favourite for the Cairns father-and-son trainers and their staff. Olympic Korchnoi will be hunting his third victory from his past four races when he runs in the $40,000 Cairns Amateur Cup (1900m) at Cannon Park on Saturday. 'He's one of the favourites of our stable, everyone loves him. He's beautiful to look at,' Peter Rowe said about the eight-year-old with six wins from 46 races. 'He's pitch-black, there's not a speck of white on him. When he's in the yard and he looks his best, he's very eye-catching and draws a lot of attention. 'If the kid's character Black Beauty was put into a real-life horse then that's what he is.' • Zouperb ready to fire despite wasted trip to Sydney Rowe said the gelding also had 'plenty of character' and had endeared himself to the stable's staff with his friendly nature. 'You walk into the barn and he'll lay his ears back and look like a bit of a dragon,' the trainer said. 'He's just playful. You know he's not going to bite you or do anything like that, he just likes to put on a show for everyone.' The ownership group for Olympic Korchnoi consists of Peter Rowe, his partner Adrian, mum Helen and Cliff Little, who became an overnight millionaire in 2019 when he won the entire $40m Powerball jackpot. 'It's his 70th birthday at the end of the month so we're hoping to get a big win for him,' Rowe said about Little. There's one other reason why Olympic Korchnoi is special to the Rowes - his win in the 2023 Gordonvale Cup ticked off a lifetime dream for Trevor. • Munce duo target Melbourne spring with promising pair 'Dad had wanted to win that race since he was a kid so it was a special moment,' Peter said. Olympic Korchnoi has a fascinating history, starting his career in South America where he finished runner-up in the Group 1 Brazil Derby in 2021. He then went to Hong Kong but never made it to the races before finding a home at Cranbourne trainer Phillip Stokes' stables for a brief period in 2023. The black beauty was then transferred to Sunshine Coast trainer James Moore but only had the one race before the Rowes picked him up for just $1500. Mature-age apprentice jockey Lauren Guernier will ride Olympic Korchnoi in the Cairns Amateur Cup after being onboard for his past two wins in Cairns and Mareeba. 'He's a funny old horse and he has to be ridden a certain way,' Rowe said. 'His best form is when he's up on-speed which can be tricky if he's slow out of the gates. 'If you try to ride a pretty race on him or take the sit then he just loses interest. 'The best thing about him is that when he's in front he's tough so we can put the pedal down a fair way out and he'll keep grinding away. He doesn't really have a sprint. 'When he's in front and you can gradually increase the tempo on him, that's when he races best.'

Swifties warned of scammers trying to cash in on Taylor Swift's new album announcement

Swifties have been warned to be alert for scammers trying to cash in on Taylor Swift's new album announcement using fake pre-orders, links to leaked downloads and dodgy merchandise to steal money from excited fans. Taylor Swift appeared on her boyfriend Travis Kelce's podcast on Wednesday to announce her upcoming album Life of a Showgirl, which is due to be released on October 3. The new album can be pre-ordered through Taylor Swift's website, but NAB has warned fans to watch out for scammers turning to Swiftie-mania for fast money. NAB Security Culture and Advisory head Tessa Bowles said the bank stopped and recovered close to $2m in scam payments each month. 'When excitement is high, criminals know fans will rush to make purchases, reminding people to stop, check and protect,' she said. 'Before you hand over your payment details, make sure you're paying for the real thing, not some imitation of a showgirl.' Ms Bowles said red flags to look out for were fake pre-order sites that mimicked Taylor's official store to steal payments or deliver nothing and links to leaked tracks that hid malware. She said scammers often promoted social media giveaways but were impersonators pretending to offer exclusive access in exchange for personal information or a fee or hijacked accounts pretending to sell spare merchandise. Ms Bowles said fans should stay in their 'safe-ty era' by going to the official site and websites of trusted retailers. 'Criminals thrive on urgency and fear,' she said. 'If you see 'get in quick' or 'last chance offer' on something that sounds too good to be true, pause and double-check it first. 'Buying items through social media or online marketplaces always comes with a risk. If you decide to proceed with the purchase, do so with caution, checking whether the seller has a legitimate profile, other listings and reviews. 'Using PayID can also help reduce the risk of fraud or payments being sent to the wrong account as you can see the name of the person or business when paying. 'Be cautious of sellers asking you to pay with gift cards or cryptocurrencies.' More than 90,000 scams have been reported to ScamWatch tin 2025, resulting in Australians losing $147m so far this year.

Lisa Wilkinson, Peter FitzSimons' Sydney home for sale for $23m

TV heavyweight Lisa Wilkinson and journalist husband Peter FitzSimons have listed their home of nearly 30 years up for sale for about $23 million after making the decision to downsize. The media power couple have owned the home in lower north shore suburb of Cremorne since 1998 when they paid just under $3 million for the five-bedroom house overlooking the Harbour. Known as Ingleneuk, the house was built in 1903 and is described in the listing as a 'magnificent example of superbly preserved Federation architecture'. A development application is currently in place for a new triple garage with interconnected studio accommodation and a new garden room. It's understood that the sprawling 3125 sqm estate had become surplus to the needs of the former Today show host and FitzSimons after their three children moved out. The impressive land size was the result of the couple adding two adjoining lots, which had been subdivided off the original 122-year-old estate – to return it to its original size and double street frontage. The house has a full-sized floodlit tennis court, heated pool and spa, cabana with a wet bar and landscaped grounds. It has been listed with BlackDiamondz agents Moniku Tu and Jad Khattar. A range of personalities have been reported to have visited the estate of the years, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, actor Simon Baker, Hugh Jackman and celebrity chef Nigella Lawson. Wilkinson and Wallaby turned author FitzSimons bought the Cremorne house after selling a previous Mosman home for about $1.66 million, records showed. The couple married in 1992.
