LISBON, Portugal —Sitting in a raft at the top of a cruise ship, I heard a mechanical trilling getting louder behind me. A mechanism that looked like robot arms got closer until they reached the back of my seat, pushing me upwards through rushing water until I reached a closed portion of the slide. Then, momentum took over.
I twisted, turned and splashed for the next 40 seconds or so, gripping tight to the handles of the blue inflatable. I came out the other side wet, colder in the gusty spring weather and ready for another turn.
I had stepped onto Norwegian Cruise Line's Aqua Slidecoaster – a combination roller coaster and water slide – and a conveyor belt delivered me to the bottom of a ramp with the Lisbon skyline to my left.
The attraction aboard the line's newest ship, Norwegian Aqua, replaced the go-kart track found on others in the fleet, including Prima Class vessels Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva. 'But we have them on five ships, and it was time to try something else,' Mark Kansley, Norwegian's Senior Vice President of Hotel Operations, told USA TODAY. The line was also looking for a 'first,' he said.
'We wanted something that had never been done before on ships.'
The ride is one of several new activities on board – the first in the line's Prima Plus Class – which sailed its maiden voyage earlier this month ahead of its first revenue sailing on March 28.
Who can ride Norwegian Cruise Line's Aqua Slidecoaster?
Any guest who meets the height and weight requirements can ride (they must be at least 4 feet tall, for example). However, the attraction is not recommended for guests with pacemakers, defibrillators or certain other conditions.
There are no age requirements. Passengers can ride solo or double-up in the same raft.

The production centers around earth, water, wind and fire, and was also crafted with Wilcox, a longtime Norwegian collaborator. 'I think certainly what I strive for in 'Elements' is to feel something, and the same thing in 'Revolution,' is that we give (the audience) a big spectacle, but we should also take away a kind of human connection,' she said.

Rogers' path to becoming a daytime staple Rogers, who was born in Melbourne, Australia, cut his teeth as a soap actor in the 1970s with roles on the Australian TV series "Number 96," "The Box" and "Bellbird." The budding actor traded the Down Under for the fictional town of Port Charles, New York, when he joined the cast of "General Hospital" in December 1980, playing super spy Scorpio. Rogers went on to enjoy a 12-year stint on the long-running drama before departing the series in 1992. He was nominated for two Soap Opera Digest Awards during his initial "GH" tenure, including a 1986 nod for outstanding daytime actor in a leading role. After a nearly 15-year hiatus, Rogers returned to the show in 2006 for a series of recurring appearances, followed by additional guest performances in 2008, 2012-2016 and 2018-2024. Anna Faris, Regina Hall to star in 'Scary Movie' reboot after 20 years: 'Fab four is back'
Anna Faris and Regina Hall are returning to their roots. Not only are the Wayans brothers – Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Ivory Wayans – on board for "Scary Movie 6," two of the franchise's original stars will also reunite for the reboot, according to an announcement on Friday, Aug. 15. "The fab four is back. So excited to work and reunite with these two brilliant women," actor/writer Marlon Wayans wrote in an Instagram post. "We are so proud of all they have done since the inception of the scary movie franchise." He shared the announcement alongside a movie still from "Scary Movie 2," with Faris as Cindy, Marlon Wayans as Shorty, Shawn Wayans as Ray and Hall as Brenda. Hours earlier, Wayans had teased the announcement by posting a photo of Faris and Hall from the original 2000 film alongside a cryptic caption: "👀 SM6." Hall and Faris' last appearance in the horror parody franchise was 2006's "Scary Movie 4." They didn't appear in the 2013 standalone installment, "Scary Movie 5," which made a lukewarm showing at the box office. Leonardo DiCaprio reveals passing on this role as his 'biggest regret'
Leonardo DiCaprio not only feels younger than his current age of 50, but he also pines for a role he passed on when he was younger: Dirk Diggler. The Oscar-winning actor told Paul Thomas Anderson, the director of the 1997 film "Boogie Nights," his "biggest regret" is not doing that film with Anderson. The actor had a good excuse in that he had already committed to the role of Jack Dawson in "Titanic," which became a blockbuster when it hit theaters the same year. DiCaprio does star in Anderson's newest film, "One Battle After Another," which hits theaters Sept. 26. A discussion between the two appears in the September issue of Esquire. It was a profound movie of my generation. I can't imagine anyone but Mark (Wahlberg) in it. When I finally got to see that movie, I just thought it was a masterpiece. It's ironic that you're the person asking that question, but it's true." In the film, Wahlberg's role is that of Diggler, who becomes a porn star in the 1970s adult film industry. Also appearing in the film are Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro. The film is his and Anderson's first together. "I've been wanting to work with you – Paul – for something like 20 years now, and I loved this idea of the washed-up revolutionary trying to erase his past and disappear and try and live some sort of normal life raising his daughter," DiCaprio told Anderson in their discussion. Discussing DiCaprio's role in the film, Anderson says, "He is a nice character, someone who starts out wanting to change the world on the far left but gets increasingly cranky and closed off as he gets older."
