At least 51 killed in 'Israeli' fire near Gaza aid centers: Gaza Civil Defense

The Gaza Civil Defense announced that 51 people were killed since early Tuesday by 'Israeli' army fire, with most casualties occurring near two aid distribution centers in the devastated central and southern parts of Gaza. Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal told AFP that rescue teams transported at least 25 bodies and dozens of injured, including children, to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, following gunfire and tank shelling by 'Israeli' forces in western Rafah. 'Israeli' forces targeted groups of civilians near the Al-Alam and Al-Shakoush areas in western Rafah as they waited to access an aid center in northwest Rafah, Basal added. He explained that 'Israeli' soldiers opened fire from a military position as thousands of people approached the Al-Shakoush area, about two kilometers from the Rafah aid center. Earlier, Basal said the Civil Defense had transferred at least 21 bodies and over 150 wounded after 'Israeli' troops fired and shelled thousands of civilians near an American aid center between the Al-Shuhada junction (Nitsarim) and Wadi Gaza Bridge in central Gaza. Victims were taken to Al-Awda Hospital in the Nuseirat refugee camp. The 'Israeli' army said it had detected a gathering of civilians near its forces operating in the Nitsarim corridor in central Gaza. It confirmed receiving reports of casualties from 'Israeli army fire in the area,' with details under review. Al-Awda Hospital confirmed receiving at least 21 bodies and around 150 injured, including 62 critical cases caused by Israeli fire near Wadi Gaza Bridge in central Gaza. Eyewitnesses reported that at approximately 1:45 AM Jerusalem time, thousands of Palestinians gathered near the Netzarim Corridor, just hundreds of meters from an aid distribution center. Eyewitness Rabhi Al-Qassas said, 'We were almost 50,000 people. The Israelis deceived us, made us enter the food distribution point, then opened fire randomly. The wounded and dead are lying in the streets for the sake of a meal.' He questioned, 'How long will this continue? When will these victims get a solution?' Another witness confirmed that Israeli forces fired bullets and multiple artillery shells, while 'Israeli' drones fired on thousands of civilians waiting for aid near the Netzarim Corridor close to Wadi Gaza Bridge, resulting in deaths and injuries. Basal also reported the transfer of five bodies and several wounded from an Israeli airstrike that targeted a house early Tuesday in the Al-Sabra neighborhood, southern Gaza City. Victims were taken to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. The war in Gaza erupted after an unprecedented attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed 1,219 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli official figures. Since then, 'Israel' has launched a devastating war killing 56,077 people in Gaza, mostly civilians, according to the latest count from the Hamas-run Ministry of Health.
