30 Years Later: Telemundo Special Honors Selena As Her Killer Is Denied Parole
Telemundo two-part special "Siempre Selena: 30 años de su Muerte" (Always Selena: 30 Years After Her ... More Death) will celebrate her life, music and legacy.
Thirty years after her tragic death, Selena, known during her lifetime as the Queen of Tejano music, continues to draw millions of adoring fans to her music and life story. This weekend, Telemundo honors her legacy with a two-part special, Siempre Selena: 30 años de su Muerte (Always Selena: 30 Years After Her Death). The special will celebrate her life, music, and the enduring impact of the beloved artist, while also revisiting the events surrounding her untimely death.
Selena was murdered at age 23 on March 31, 1995. Already a charismatic star with multiple Spanish-language hits, she was on the verge of crossing over into English-language pop superstardom at the time of her death. Dreaming of You, her critically acclaimed album featuring the English-language hit "I Could Fall in Love," was released posthumously.
Selena was fatally shot by Yolanda Saldívar, the founder of her fan club, who was recently denied parole on Thursday, March 27. Currently serving her sentence in a Texas prison, Saldívar is scheduled for another parole review in 2030.

Hosted by Jessica Carrillo and Lourdes Stephen, the tribute program will air live on Saturday, March 29, from 8 to 9 pm ET, and continue on Sunday, March 30, from 4 to 6 pm ET. For the special, Carrillo traveled to Selena's hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas, to visit the neighborhood where the iconic singer was born and the site of her tragic death.
The special will feature interviews with stars such as Jennifer López, who portrayed Selena in the 1997 biopic written and directed by Gregory Nava, as well as Ana Bárbara, Carin León, Lucía Méndez, Pete Astudillo, and Yuri. Selena's brother, AB Quintanilla, will also make a special appearance to reflect on his sister's extraordinary musical career and unveil a never-before-seen musical performance dedicated to her memory.
Selena has been honored with multiple tributes since her passing. Among them: she was featured on a commemorative U.S. postage stamp in 2011, received a Google Doodle commemorating her solo debut album released on October 17, 1989, and was awarded a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2017. In addition to the 1997 film, a family-approved telling of her life was brought to the screen by Netflix in 2020, with Christian Serratos starring as the late singer in Selena: The Series.
Telemundo's tribute to Selena doesn't end with the two-part special. Throughout the week, the network's daytime programs will feature special coverage dedicated to Selena's life and music, culminating in a broadcast of the iconic biographical film Selena, starring Jennifer López, on Saturday, April 5, at 8 pm ET.

New 'Final Destination' film sparks misrepresented visuals
"Anyone knows this news? The ceiling of a movie theatre in the Philippines collapsed during the screening of the Final Destination 6 movie. That's really the ultimate experience," says an Indonesian-language Facebook post on May 26, 2025. It includes a two-minute clip of a crowd in distress as water starts to leak from a cinema's ceiling, with some parts starting to fall off. A similar post written in Burmese surfaced on the same day with an image showing the damaged interior of a movie house. "The ceiling collapsed while screening Final Destination," the caption reads. "Final Destination: Bloodlines", the latest instalment in the horror franchise, topped the North American box office following its release in mid-May (archived link). Similar claims about a theatre collapsing during the film's screening also surfaced on X, Instagram and TikTok and were shared in other languages, including Hindi, English, and Tagalog. While such an incident was reported in Argentina's capital Buenos Aires in May, the circulating visuals are unrelated (archived link). A reverse image search using keyframes found multiple news reports shared the clip in June 2015, including from ABC7 News (archived link). "Six people were reported hurt Monday night in Cebu, Philippines when parts of the ceiling of an Ayala Center Cebu cinema room collapsed after intense water leakage," part of the report reads, referring to a city in central Philippines. It goes to say that 350 people were in the room for a brand relaunch event. A similar clip of the event taken from another angle has appeared in reports from Philippine media organisations Sunstar and Rappler (archived here and here). Another reverse search of the photo showing the destroyed theatre found it in an NBC News article published February 28, 2025 -- months before the release of "Final Destination: Bloodlines" (archived link). "Movie theater ceiling collapses during screening of 'Captain America: Brave New World'," reads the report's headline. "The historic Liberty Theater in Wenatchee, Wash. Two people were in the theater during the incident, but no injuries were reported," says the caption to the picture. The photo is credited to Wenatchee Valley Fire Department, which uploaded an Instagram post about the same event on February 26, 2025 (archived here and here). "At approximately 8 PM, Wenatchee Valley firefighters responded to a reported ceiling collapse at Liberty Cinema. Two people were inside the theater at the time, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation," the post states. Jessie J has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The English singer/songwriter announced via Instagram on Tuesday that she received the news prior to the 25 April release of her track No Secrets. "I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. I'm highlighting the word early. Cancer sucks in any form but I'm holding onto the word early," Jessie told fans in the social media video. "I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period. I just wanted to be open and share it. One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I'm not processing it because I'm working so hard. "I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I'm an open book." The Price Tag singer also captioned the video with a light-hearted albeit emotional summary. "No (more) Secrets, and is it too soon to do a remix called Living my Breast Life? "All jokes aside, these last 2 months have been so amazing, and having this go on alongside it on the sidelines has given me the most incredible perspective. But... your girl needs a hug."
