Dubai sees major rise in green spaces with over 216,000 new trees
This translates to around 600 trees being planted every day.
The city's green spaces have also grown by 391.5 hectares (about 3.9 million square metres), marking a 57% rise from 2023. These efforts are part of the broader goals under Dubai's 'Quality of Life Strategy 2033'.
As part of its commitment to sustainability, Dubai Municipality also planted 5.3 million seedlings and replaced 45 million seasonal flowers throughout the year.
In addition, 165 beautification projects were completed under the Dubai Green Project, covering residential areas, roads, parks and public spaces.
Badr Anwahi, CEO of Dubai Municipality's Public Facilities Agency, emphasized that these projects aim to enhance Dubai's sustainability and beauty, striking a balance between modern urban planning and environmental preservation.
Key greening projects in 2024 included major intersections and bridges along Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Jamayel Street, Al Khawaneej Street, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Latifa Bint Hamdan Street.
These projects also covered Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Road, Al Ittihad Road, Dubai-Al Ain Road, and various internal roads in residential areas, including Al Mizhar, Al Barsha, Nad Al Hammar, Nad Al Sheba, Mirdif, Abu Hail and Oud Al Muteena.
The trees planted range from native species like Ghaf and Sidr to ornamental varieties like neem, Indian jasmine and various palm varieties.
The Municipality also integrated sustainable irrigation methods using recycled water to conserve resources. Dubai's green spaces have now doubled since 2011, with over 52 million square metres of greenery by the end of 2024.

The inspections covered over 18,800 buildings under construction, with a total built-up area exceeding 36 million square metres, marking an 11% increase from last year and reflecting continued growth in new projects across the emirate. These results highlight Dubai Municipality's comprehensive regulatory strategy, ensuring safety and quality throughout all stages of construction. Dubai's GDP grows 4% in Q1 2025, led by health, real estate sectors

Human health and social work activities led growth with a 26 per cent increase to Dhs1.9bn, while Other contributors included accommodation and food services (up 3.4 per cent to Dhs4.9bn), transport and storage (up 2 per cent to Dhs15.7bn), wholesale and retail trade (up 4.5 per cent to Dhs27.5bn), manufacturing (up 3.3 per cent to Dhs8.7bn), and information and communications (up 3.2 per cent to Dhs5.3bn). Collectively, these sectors helped maintain Dubai's diversified growth momentum following a 5.8 per cent expansion in 2024. Omega Seiki Mobility to Invest AED92 Million in EV Assembly Plant at Dubai's Jafza
Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM), a leading Indian electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced the launch of its first overseas electric vehicle assembly plant in Dubai's Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), committing AED92 million (US$25 million) over the next five years. The move aims to accelerate the company's global expansion and meet rising demand for low-emission transport in the Middle East and Africa. Covering 42,000 square feet, the facility will assemble OSM's range of electric two- and three-wheelers and serve as a storage and distribution hub for auto components and spare parts. Operations are expected to begin by the end of 2025, with the initial phase creating over 100 jobs. Strategically positioned to serve export markets, the plant will enhance UAE-India trade ties in clean technology. While OSM's immediate focus is on EVs, the company also plans to introduce CNG-powered models for select African markets as a transitional clean fuel option. Its flagship products, the OSM Rage+ cargo three-wheeler and OSM Stream passenger vehicle, offer ranges of up to 270 km, fast-charging and battery-swapping capabilities, and IoT-based fleet management features.
