British Open champion Scottie Scheffler to donate new practice facility to Texas Golf
"If feels like you work your whole life to celebrate winning a tournament for like, a few minutes. It only lasts a few minutes. That kind of euphoric feeling. ... It's not a fullfilling life. It's not fulfilling from like the deepest places of your heart." - Scottie Scheffler
Scheffler is obviously dedicated to his craft. But still, in many corners of the media and the golf world, his motives and desire were questioned.
"I'm kind of a sicko. I love putting in the work. I love being able to practice, I love being able to live out my dreams. But at the end of the day, sometimes I don't understand the point." - Scottie Scheffler
The Texas Ex has compartmentalized his life. He strives to be good at his job so he can enjoy what fills his heart. His 15-month-old son Bennet, his Highland Park High School sweetheart, wife Meredith and others close to him are what matters to him.
Scheffler enjoys the grind of practice. Part of that comes from his time at Texas. On Monday, Texas Longhorns Golf Coach John Fields announced Scheffler would be funding a renovation of the Longhorns' practice facility at UT Golf Club. The complex and driving range will be called "Scheff's Kitchen."
Scheffler and Meredith have remained close to Coach Fields and his wife Pearl. Last year, during an alumni pro-am, Scheffler let Pearl wear his Olympic Gold Medal all day. Although the Coach knew his former player had another motive.
'That helped him because he knew everyone wanted to see that gold medal … and Pearl got to be an Olympian for the day. He just finds fun ways to enjoy that moment but not be too overwhelmed by it, and he's really good about it.' - Texas Men's Golf Coach John Fields
Other Texas golfers have contributed to the Longhorns golf facility. Jordan Spieth helped design and fund the construction of a six-hole short course at the club called "Spieth Lower 40." And Texas alum, and US Open winner, Tom Kite, recently remastered the team's chipping area.
Of course, Scheffler also was back on the UT Campus last year to serve as the guest picker for ESPN College Football GameDay. He also received his first major award on GameDay. In 2022 Fields presented Scheffler with the Jack Nicklaus Trophy, his first PGA Tour Player of the Year award. He's now won it three years in a row.

David Bednar goes longer than expected for his 1st Yankees save to end their 5-game skid
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — David Bednar got his first save for the New York Yankees after going a little longer than expected, and ended their five-game losing streak before going home. Bednar got the final five outs, all on strikeouts, in their 3-2 win at Texas on Wednesday. The game-ending one came with two runners on base after manager Aaron Boone had gone to the mound with the intention of pulling the right-hander that New York acquired from Pittsburgh at the trade deadline last Thursday. 'I said, 'I'm going to take you here.' And he gave me a look like, no you're not,' Boone said. 'He absolutely wanted the ball and, you know, felt like his stuff was still there. ... What a great, gutsy effort." Bednar's 18th save overall this season came in his third appearance for the Yankees (61-54), who remained ahead of Texas for the American League's third and final wild-card spot. They have a day off before opening a three-game series against AL West-leading Houston at home on Friday night after Bednar's first two series with New York were on the road. Bednar had two strikeouts to end the eighth and two more to open the ninth before Corey Seager walked on six pitches and Marcus Semien grounded a 3-1 pitch through the right side of the infield for a single. Bednar, already at a season-high 36 pitches and with cleanup hitter Adolis García headed to the plate, initially didn't see his new manager walking toward him. 'I was just kind of getting my mind right to face García,' Bednar said. 'I told (Boone) I wanted him and, you know, he agreed. And I just wanted to bear down and get that last one.' Bednar struck out García, finishing with a season-high 42 pitches for his most since 43 in an eight-out save for the Pirates at St. Louis on June 15, 2022. It was the third time this season Bednar recorded five outs, and the second in his week with the Yankees. 'That was awesome, especially that last one,' said Paul Goldschmidt, whose pinch-hit solo homer in the seventh broke a 2-2 tie. 'To go out out there and make those pitches was huge.' ___ AP MLB: Stephen Hawkins, The Associated Press

Pictures: Manchester United players move into stunning new-look Carrington
Manchester United have confirmed that Ruben Amorim and his players returned to a new and revamped Carrington training facility on Wednesday morning. Carrington undergoes improvements Last year, United confirmed that they had initiated work on an ambitious £50m project that would see Carrington be transformed into a 'world-class' complex. A big part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe's bid to become co-owner of United was to invest heavily in improving United's infrastructure after several years of neglect and pitiful management by the Glazer family. Award-winning and Manchester-born architect Lord Norman Foster was hired to oversee the renovations at Carrington. United noted that they planned to revamp the gym, medical, nutrition and recovery areas and insisted there was 'a design emphasis on creating more space for collaboration and innovation among players and staff.' The project ran throughout the entire 2024/25 season and was set to officially open just before the start of the upcoming campaign. Last week, Amorim said about the redeveloped Carrington, 'It's like a new start with different standards and I think to go to our building, to the new building is like a fresh start.' 'So, I think the timing is completely perfect to do everything. The good thing is that everybody's aligned what we need to do and now it's to win games, game by game try to win every game and the performance are really important as well.' Now, United have announced that the players have returned to a new-look Carrington following the completion of their United States pre-season tour. United players return to new-look Carrington The club relayed in a statement, 'While away in the States, the refurbishment of our Carrington training complex was completed and the players have now moved in.' 'The innovative new facility will officially open with a ribbon-cutting event on Friday.' The post below features some photos of the players inside the upgraded facility. United also teased the Carrington's opening on social media. United are back in action on Saturday when they take on Fiorentina in their final pre-season clash before the Premier League campaign kicks off.
