Alex Jones confirms return of her The One Show co-host after lengthy break

The One Show host Alex Jones confirmed the return of her co-host after a lengthy absence from the BBC programme. Alex Jones has disclosed that one of her previous co-presenters is making a comeback to The One Show next week. ‌ At the end of Friday's (August 1) programme, the Welsh host, who recently provided an update to her followers, i nformed BBC audiences that Ronan Keating was returning to the iconic green sofa following an extended absence. ‌ As the episode ended she announced to viewers: "That's all we've got time for tonight! a big thank you to our guests. ‌ "Now, Ronan Keating is back with me on Monday, with guest's Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Ade Edmondson and Helen George." The revelation follows the Boyzone singer's disclosure back in 2023 that he would be presenting fewer programmes owing to his musical obligations, reports Wales Online. In a statement released at the time, Ronan explained: "I'll be doing less shows this year due to my performing and recording schedule but I'm still very much part of the family." ‌ Meanwhile in the episode, presenters Alex and Clara Amfo admitted they felt anxious about one specific guest they would be interviewing. As Friday's programme began, BBC viewers witnessed Clara and Alex reveal who would be appearing later in the show. ‌ Initially they mentioned Vicky McClure would be performing live later in the programme with Jon McClure's band Reverend and the Makers. Nevertheless, it was actor Sam Claflin who left the pair feeling nervous about welcoming him onto the programme. ‌ Clara said: "We're equally excited by somebody else who knows a thing or two about rock'n'roll, actor Sam Claflin blew us away in Daisy Jones and The Six. "Honestly, myself and Al were obsessed with this show, we're a bit worried that he's going to be scared of us later, but we carry on!" Despite this, it appeared Sam was entirely comfortable whilst chatting to the duo, as they discussed his part in the Amazon Prime programme. ‌ Playing Billy Dunne in Daisy Jones and The Six, Clara didn't hesitate to enquire whether viewers might anticipate another series. The star responded: "I can't speak for everyone, I can speak for myself. I think we'd love to. It's just not in my hands! It's not my decision unfortunately. "I think getting six actors together with our schedules-obviously, if we were a band, our schedules would be aligned. "But, we're all actors, we all have families, we're all from different parts of the world. The desire is there, but it's out of my hands." The One Show is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Actress Ruth Jones to guest present The Archers Podcast

The Welsh actress will be joined by Archers cast members Charlotte Martin (Susan Carter) and Wilf Scolding (Chris Carter), along with Sarah McDonald Hughes, the writer of this week's episodes. The podcast will be available exclusively on BBC Sounds from 7.15pm on Friday. Jones, who co-wrote and co-starred in Gavin & Stacey, described herself as a 'massive Archers addict'. In the podcast she delves into the Carter family's complex history, including Chris's turbulent relationship with Alice and a powerful archive flashback to his birth in 1988, when he was born with a unilateral cleft lip and rejected by his mother. Jones also picks her two favourite scenes of the week, reveals her favourite quirky Archers character traits, and poses some burning questions about unresolved storylines in the fictional village of Ambridge. Jones said: 'I've been an avid fan of The Archers since the early 90s. 'Despite being an actress and writer myself, the thought of actually being in The Archers, or writing it, absolutely terrifies me because in my mind Ambridge really exists.' The Archers Podcast is released weekly every Friday, immediately after The Archers is broadcast on BBC Radio 4. It is usually presented by Emma Freud, who is on holiday this week. The first national episode of The Archers was broadcast on the BBC on January 1 1951.

Sir Anthony Hopkins mocks Kim Kardashian's face wrap

The Welsh actor who was born in Bridgend, went to Monmouth Boys' school in Pontypool and has links to Newport, rebirthed his Hannibal Lecter character to mock Kardashian's SKIMS face wrap. Fans were left howling when Kardashian launched her new 'Ultimate Face' product from her shapewear line, comparing the garment to the Silence of the Lambs' villain Lecter's bite restraint mask worn by Hopkins in the 1991 film. Hopkins was awarded an Oscar for his on-screen role as the cannibal and wore a nude post-surgical mask in a social media post saying: 'Hello Kim, I'm already feeling 10 years younger. Goodbye.' This was before he recreated the legendary 'fava beans and Chianti' scene and captioned the clip: 'Thank you, Kim. Don't be afraid to come over for dinner.' Fans responded with hilarity online, expressing their shock at Hopkins being the one they expected to roast Kim about her new product.
